  1. The effort put into the depth of control of this game is very apparent. Each of the four modes of racing controls in subtly different ways, and racing aficionados will definitely be able to tell the difference.

The best Need for Speed game in years. [Issue#161, p.86]

While definitely not as intensive as to replace Forza or Gran Turismo, ProStreet takes the Need for Speed engine and shows that it is a solid competitor against even more traditional racing titles.

We welcome with open arms the change of attitude and approach of this new Need for Speed. But we frown upon some of the problems that were left unsolved, like the structure of the career mode but mainly on the handling of the cars. But for those who turned their backs on the previous games, it’s a good place to return to this franchise. [Dec 2007]
  5. Overall if you prefer your racers arcade style rather then simulations you might well get along much better with Need For Speed Pro Street, and once you forgive the odd behaviour of the car handling you can get along with the game fairly well.

A disappointing effort in a franchise that has generally been rather solid. It sort of feels like EA is starting over again, leaving the open-world aspects to other games like its own Burnout Paradise, but is seems like Black Box didn't know what to do with what was left.
  7. The entire development team seems to have just tried too hard to make a decent title, and changed key areas of their previous titles which simply shouldn’t have been changed. Sadly, this Need for Speed title is the first one for a long time that needs to be left on the shelf.

I think that this game is brilliant. It just suffered from the inappropriate title, because that's what most people seem to be focusing on. IfI think that this game is brilliant. It just suffered from the inappropriate title, because that's what most people seem to be focusing on. If it was called "Pro Racing" or something like that, it would've been seen in a different light.
Nonetheless, this game strikes the perfect balance between arcade and simulator. It's nice seeing a car act more realistic in a NFS game, compared to the previous titles.
It kept the best parts of the previous games the customization options and got rid of the annoying ones the cars don't act like plastic gravity-defying chunks anymore.
Also the graphics are very good, even today, almost in 2023, they still look beautiful on the highest settings.
If you like arcade-simulators I strongly recommend this game

I missed a garage where you can view your antire car collection at once. I think the Kings, or the games bosses poses limited or no difficulty at all. It took me a while to figure out how to use my own cars in multiplayer which was really irritating. The bocklet is very thin and will not answer many questions you might have. Expand
