MicroBot's baseline gameplay isn't revolutionary, but for an arcade shooter, it's not bad. Might be worth a trip just for the aesthetics, depending on how much like the genre.

This exploration-heavy dual-stick shooter features intriguing internal environments to motor through while zapping infectious robotic drones. [March 2011, p.77]

If you like the genre, it's easy to recommend Microbot despite some of its flaws. I found it more enjoyable with the offline co-op mode, too.

The controls are designed to be unresponsive, which can be cool and irritating at the same time.

MicroBot's ambition seems constantly undercut by time or money constraints, leaving it a well-intended but very average game.

Microbot's interesting premise, setting, and mechanics are undermined by several issues that cause the game to be more of a tedious chore than an enjoyable experience.

The quality of MicroBot's concept is unquestionable, but the same goes for its various balance issues. The game is cool, the fluid physics work just as they should, but the lack of rhythm between the fights and the exploration is a big problem, just like the lack of an online multiplayer.

A few neat elements help keep this tepid dual-stick shooter afloat.

Its setting is impressively innovative and sets the stage for something big, but MicroBot just falls a bit short of that promise. The handling is very demanding, and so it's just another arcade shooter.

Stick with PixelJunk Shooter instead. [Issue#202, p.97]

Rummaging around inside another human being should be more exciting than this.

It's hard to recommend that someone drop ten bucks into a prettier version of a game you might play better on a site like Kongregate or Newgrounds, but there really isn't anything god awful about MicroBot, just nothing at all very good.

Maneuverability is good and you play with both sticks (one to navigate and one for shoot). It is a false 3D, your move is only in a plane, but some enemy use the depht. A good little game in PSN. It's a steal right now at 400 points, and I think the reviews have been overly harsh. Microbot is a clever top down dual stick shooter that isn't perfect, but has great moments. It has a very relaxing quality that is punctuated by intense fighting. The graphics are really well done too. The upgrade system is also great and adds depth for those who like grinding for loot. Give it a chance, it definitely feels like a game made in a short amount of time, but there is some interesting stuff here sprinkled throughout. For the price, you have to try. Full Review »
