First I would like to mention that i have finished the main story and have logged close to 100 hours. Even with a few flaws The Phantom Pain is still an amazing game. Also I find some of the negativity towards this game ridiculous. The number one complaint for Metal Gear Solid 4 was the cut scenes were too long. Well now it seems people are complaining they are too short. Another one is the open world feels empty!? Seriously what where you expecting to find in the middle of a desert in Afghanistan? Or they didn't like having to chopper in and out? Your in enemy territory for god sake.

Fun: 5/10 This Game can't be fun because of it's setting. Calling it fun would be weird.
Gameplay: 10/10 If you want to play it stealthily or Guns blazing, you will feel the Adrenalin pumping.
Story: 9/10 Definitely has it's downsides but it's an amazing story that will keep you hooked. Cast: 10/10 Amazing and interesting characters. Repetitive? Sometimes the Missions feel the same.

Considering this is the PS3 version, small technical problem arisen in the last cutscenes with tiny freezes, lags and framerate issues.Other than that, repetitive missions decreased a little my score because while fun , it was not pushing anymore interesting twist to it.

So the only reason why I'm giving it a 7, not a 10... is purely because this game makes you realize your PS3 has become a dinosaur. I also experience occasional delayed loading for menu systems, but never for missions or free roam drop off, which is pretty amazing.

If you don't have a X1 or PS4, I'd recommend the game, its just that good. (If you can't play it on console, play it on PC, this game is so well optimized that it runs on every machine just fine, even much below minimum specs.)

I'm very disappointed. It's the first time I can't finish a MGS. I played and enjoyed them all (except GZ). TPP is very boring...everything sucks in this game. Repetitive missions, annoying open world (empty with random rocks and outposts) and so does the helicopter usage (you'll die of boredom by waiting supplies to arrive and to see everytime the take off and landing cutscene). The way for unlock weapons is simply ridiculos and you forced to use non-lethal weapons otherwise you'll get penalty. If you played the previous titles (except GZ) and you liked the controls buttons...well you will hate these new one, they are really annoying. No more L2/R2 for change items/weapons. They got replaced by "codec call" and binoculars. Instead of L2/R2 (which was perfect on MGS4) you'll now use arrows, sometimes in combination with the right stick (you'll use the RS too for choose buddy's actions which is very annoying). The chose of horse controls buttons is really terrible. 0. Expand

After been playing MG games for almost 20 years, I must say this is one of the worse titles. I don't know what went wring when developing this game (besides Kojima's deflection), but this is nothing like what they told us it was gonna be. I played the PS3 version, so the graphics weren't the best; I guess the Fox Engine was better suit for the next-gen consoles, because I can't help but think that MGS4 or even MGRR look better. But well anyways, this isn't about the graphics. But the whole gaming experience. While, yes, like all MGS games they give you various options to go through the game, you always end up taking the same one; and then, you repeat it over 200 hours. And, every MGS had its own new systems, but this one, is basically the same as Peace Walker, a title for PSP! Knock-out, fulton, build more weapons (very slow system and requires you to play and repeat missions to get mroe points) and expand your mother base. That, is not innovation. Then, you have this whole open world, but guess what... it's super empty. Not as empty as Shadow of Colossus or Journey, but empty is it, with no life, and all is so monotone. One can't help but miss the buildings, HQ's, bases, facilities, etc from other titles. A mix between MGS3 and 4 would have been perfect. Damn, I cannot help but then play GTA V and I feel ashamed when I see that huge world, so full of life and so detailed. A game with smaller proportions as is MGSV should have done it better in that aspect. Ah, but that's not the worse, no... then comes the story. If you can call it "story". We went from the 30% gameply and 70% vids of MGS4, to 10% vids and 90% gameplay in MGSV. The "cutscenes", if can be called that, because most of the story is listened by records and tapes, don't remind you of MGS anywhere. Not to mention this Big Boss has no charisma at all and I don't know why there was so drama about Kieffer Sutterland, because he has only like... 5 lines in the entire game. But anyways, the story... stupid, unnecessary, fills no gapes nor holes, because once again... there was no need to write a story between MGS3 and MG1. In all case the true fall of Big Boss, and this... wasn't. I could go on (such as characters like Quiet, or the incomplete Chapter 51, now again that's another thing to be discussed, not to mention the whole role of Eli in this game, another dissapointment... oh and who remembers how they fooled us all when they showed the two "twins" but then it was a lie LOL), but I'll stop it here, because the dissapointment was so big, and it was obvious that all gaming sites and magazines got their paychecks from Konami, otherwise this game wouldn't hace received 9s and 10s. Good points: the enemy's AI and the character's gameplay (thou obviously inspirated by other games). Expand

Story 3/10 What MGS series was all about. TPP has only a couple great moments like the hospital portion and the other decent bits are diluted between the many repetitive missions the game forces you to do.
Characters are the weakest in the whole series by far, even makes you wonder If this was really "directed and written by Kojima", and they are not just bad by MGS game standards.
All the 10/10 reviews must be from clueless newcomers to the series who are not true MGS fans.
