    One thing that really hasn’t changed since 2010 is how Duels presents itself. The UI and playing field have been spruced up with a few fancy animations here and there but it’s still mostly the same. In truth, this isn’t such a bad thing, though if Stainless wants its series to become something more than an adaptation they need to look into adding 3D models and new effects.

    It's not the real thing, but at ten dollars, it's an incredible value with a great selection of modes and plenty to unlock.

    Magic 2014 is definitely the best game so far in the franchise and it doesn't get any better than this. Whether you are a skilled player or a beginner you will certainly get some fun out of playing this.

    Well, there's definitely some progress. The game is more beautiful than its predecessor, online play has been improved and it's finally possible to create your own deck. It's not all silver and gold, though. There's a lot of screentearing and for reasons unknown it's impossible to trade cards with your friends. If you're no grouch, however, you should be able to look over this and enjoy this game.

    DoTP has brilliant core gameplay and a near-perfect interface, but it's hampered by locked content, and not knowing what game it wants to be.

    Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers is yet another excellent addition to the series, but whether you buy it depends on two things. How invested you are into the series as a whole. Does the idea of the updated cards for 2014 mean that much too you? Or are you just someone who enjoys a casual go now and again. There other factor is if you are totally new to the game, if so, you may as well go for the latest version.

    Duels of the Planeswalkers isn't the full Magic experience. It's a taste of the broader landscape to entice players and make them more comfortable attending a casual Friday Night Magic event. If you're new to Magic: The Gathering, Duels of the Planeswalkers remains the best way to learn how to play without the intimidation of other players. Even with the online connection issues and additional purchases tied to making the most of Sealed mode, this is the best version to date. It's easy to recommend for new players just learning and veteran spellslingers looking for new single-player matches.

    Magic 2014 isn’t much of a sequel to Magic 2013 - more of an iteration – but it is more Magic, which is a good thing.

    Duels of the Planeswalkers would be something very big if they used all the potential that the physical Magic cards have.

    The developers should take a look to what other trading card games are doing.
    I'm thinking on Might and Magic Duel of Champions when I say this, because Magic is going to loose in the digital field if it doesn't take advantage of the potential that the game has with its existing physical cards.

    Free to play, expansions, tournaments, focused on online, prizes, and a flexible editor are just some ideas I'm missing since the very first Duels of the Planeswalkers and I was hoping that could change with the following editions, but now I see that, in my opinion, they are in the wrong direction.    … Full Review »

I will say this game is certainly without question worth the asking price of $10 but I always beg the question why they don't just sell the same virtual cards as in the store for the same price or less and make it convenient for us ccg lovers to play the game online easier. What really irks me is if you spend time with this version you will realize just how lovely you are getting the shaft. Up front the package looks awesome but as you play you realize that every single mode is just a teaser tutorial and a roadblock to enjoying the game. Sealed play allows just the right amount of winning packs to top out into meaningless territory and cheats on top of that and campaign mode is very short and limited. Again, by the time you figure this out you can't disagree it was worth $10 but past that, meh.… Full Review »
