Last Rebellion doesn't raise the bar for JRPGs, but it does what it does very well. I had a lot of fun playing through it and I can happily recommend that anyone interested in JRPGs, hardcore or newcomer alike, should give it a look.
-
I'll admit, the game did grow on me and I actually liked it more than I expected to for its 19 hour duration, but it is not a game I can recommend at full price; especially with so many better and higher profile titles releasing this season. That being said, if you find Last Rebellion for $12 or less in the bargain bin, it's not a terrible purchase.

Last Rebellion is a game that will likely become a niche title down the road, and for good reason. The combat system is definitely something special. If only everything else had come together this game could have easily been a must-own.
-
This game is another RPG, but hidden between bigger titles like NIER and Final Fantasy XIII. The voice-acting and the fighting system are pretty cool, but the game has problems with the graphics. The graphics aren’t nice, the story is boring and the gameplay is - besides the cool fighting system - too slow.

PSM3 Magazine UKThe combat system is clever. [Mar 2010, p.89]

There's not much more to say. Pass on this one unless you are the most hardcore of RPG players. Even then stop and reassess if you're really sure about this. Maybe go for a walk and clear your head. If you're still determined, have at it. You are one of the special few.

Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)Combines a mix of good and bad design elements to create a flawed but memorable adventure. [May 2010, p.84]
-
The story and characters are a total wash, and the gameplay doesn't change up much. It's also a fairly short adventure for a console RPG. The battle system, however, is innovative and fun, sans a few extraneous additions. In the end, though, the package and the asking price don't match up well.
-
Games Master UKOutside side of some gorgeous artwork, the rest of the game is boring and brown, the presentation is dire and it has a camera that hates your guts. [Apr 2010, p.85]
-
Last Rebellion is a niche RPG that only hardcore RPG fans will enjoy.
-
The production, gameplay, and storytelling mechanics all scream 1997, and 1997 is when ‘Last Rebellion’ should have been released. Compared to the lot of games that have come out on the PS3 as of late, ‘Last Rebellion’ is an embarrassment.
-
Last Rebellion is underproduced, underdeveloped, unrefined, unpolished, and ultimately forgettable. And yet, it possesses the foundations of something, that originally intended to strike for greatness.
-
The combat system is good, but it lacks depth in every other aspect. No cities, no buying and selling, short, bad story, bad camera, bad graphics... Maybe it would have fared better in other platforms, as PlayStation 3 seems not the perfect fit for the game.
