Although Last Rebellion feels dated with its still images in place of animations and abysmal voice and dialogue direction, the intriguing storyline and challenging battles make for a fun experience. This is a definite rent-it situation.
-
Last Rebellion doesn't raise the bar for JRPGs, but it does what it does very well. I had a lot of fun playing through it and I can happily recommend that anyone interested in JRPGs, hardcore or newcomer alike, should give it a look.
-
I'll admit, the game did grow on me and I actually liked it more than I expected to for its 19 hour duration, but it is not a game I can recommend at full price; especially with so many better and higher profile titles releasing this season. That being said, if you find Last Rebellion for $12 or less in the bargain bin, it's not a terrible purchase.
-
Last Rebellion is a game that will likely become a niche title down the road, and for good reason. The combat system is definitely something special. If only everything else had come together this game could have easily been a must-own.
-
This game is another RPG, but hidden between bigger titles like NIER and Final Fantasy XIII. The voice-acting and the fighting system are pretty cool, but the game has problems with the graphics. The graphics aren’t nice, the story is boring and the gameplay is - besides the cool fighting system - too slow.
-
PSM3 Magazine UKThe combat system is clever. [Mar 2010, p.89]
-
There's not much more to say. Pass on this one unless you are the most hardcore of RPG players. Even then stop and reassess if you're really sure about this. Maybe go for a walk and clear your head. If you're still determined, have at it. You are one of the special few.

Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)Combines a mix of good and bad design elements to create a flawed but memorable adventure. [May 2010, p.84]
-
The story and characters are a total wash, and the gameplay doesn't change up much. It's also a fairly short adventure for a console RPG. The battle system, however, is innovative and fun, sans a few extraneous additions. In the end, though, the package and the asking price don't match up well.
-
Games Master UKOutside side of some gorgeous artwork, the rest of the game is boring and brown, the presentation is dire and it has a camera that hates your guts. [Apr 2010, p.85]
-
Last Rebellion is a niche RPG that only hardcore RPG fans will enjoy.
-
The production, gameplay, and storytelling mechanics all scream 1997, and 1997 is when ‘Last Rebellion’ should have been released. Compared to the lot of games that have come out on the PS3 as of late, ‘Last Rebellion’ is an embarrassment.
-
Last Rebellion is underproduced, underdeveloped, unrefined, unpolished, and ultimately forgettable. And yet, it possesses the foundations of something, that originally intended to strike for greatness.
-
The combat system is good, but it lacks depth in every other aspect. No cities, no buying and selling, short, bad story, bad camera, bad graphics... Maybe it would have fared better in other platforms, as PlayStation 3 seems not the perfect fit for the game.
-
As I added up all of the areas in which Last Rebellion is lacking, I couldn’t figure out if the developer had great intentions that it just couldn’t execute or if the team simply didn’t care. Whatever the case, it’s one of the least polished and least impressive RPGs I’ve played this generation.
-
If this were a PSP game I may be able to overlook a lot of these short comings, but as a PS3 game, Last Rebellion is disappointing.
-
Play UKThe battle system is interesting, but everything else about LR is sub-par. [Issue#191, p.79]
-
Last Rebellion is an example of a game that does nothing right. It is the worst RPG on the PlayStation 3, and it may be one of the worst RPGs to come out in the past few years.
-
It’s quite hard to recommend Last Rebellion to anyone but some insane hardcore RPG person, certainly after the recent rush of decent titles that have arrived for the genre. The game is full of so many decisions that hamper the experience and fun.
-
Last Rebellion is a dull, witless, ugly, uninspired adventure with only glimpses of the quality and innovation that could’ve been obtained with a lot more work on the part of the designers.
-
This role-playing game's forgettable story and frustrating combat make it a real disappointment.
-
Although the combat system is unique, the progressively easy difficulty, atrocious story, and subpar visuals make Last Rebellion difficult to recommend. It's also incredibly short, requiring less than fifteen hours to complete the game.
-
Last Rebellion simply doesn't need to exist. I would gladly take its battle system in another, full-blown RPG, but tucked into a painfully bland story and world, it ends up being nothing more than a waste.
-
Rent it if you absolutely must, but there are better JRPG options on the PS3 right now... and that's seriously saying something.
-
It doesn't help that the game goes from mildly challenging to ridiculously easy within the space of a few hours, and once you hit level 50 nothing in the game will pose any kind of threat.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKBasic graphics, a beyond dull battle system and truly hateful lead characters make this an unwelcome flashback to deservedly forgotten J-RPGs of decade's past. [Apr 2010, p.100]
-
Embarrassingly poor Japanese role-player that manages the impossible task of playing worse than it looks.
-
This overpriced game is just a terribly boring and flawed adventure.
-
For Hit Maker’s first PS3 game, it’s very much rooted in the past and shows no progress forward except for the battle system, which finds itself caught in the major flaw of only having two characters.
-
Last Rebellion tries your patience at every turn. The combat is repetitive, the story is obtuse, and the graphics are primitive. It’s as if Hit Maker aimed for total mediocrity on the PSP and hit an abyss of obsolescence on the PS3 instead.
