Infamous is a great superhero game. Just understand that you are designed hero. If you get that and you like electricity as a power then, this is the game for you, otherwise you will hate this game. Really it comes down to that.

Fun game to play. I liked this game a lot, finally a robust superhero game. Like most superhero games it gets old BUT, this is has the chance to choose whether to be a hero or a villain.

Maybe a little late reviewing this as it's been out for a couple of years but I just picked it up on a whim from the PSN "Welcome Back" pack (it was therefore free, therefore nothing to lose). OK, lets start with the bad. It does look a little dated, the graphics are a little ill-defined and could use some better anti-aliasing. Some of the voice acting is a bit stereotypical/dodgy and sometimes the "grab onto anything" parkour movement system can be a little iffy, sometimes you can't grab something you want to because you miss by a half inch and sometimes, like when you're trying to dodge a bulletstorm by jumping off a roof... you'll grab an edge and end up full of lead.

HOWEVER, everything else about the game is brilliant - the parkour movement system (other than the odd foible) works very well, you can climb pretty much anything - you're a free-runner who can leap off tall buildings without suffering injury AND you can shoot "lightning bolts" out of your hands... what's not to love! So it's a little dated now, playability-wise it's probably still one of the best games going - it's just, well, fun - lots of fun. Definitely a game every PS3 owner should have - I'd give it a 95, closer to 10 than 9 anyway :)

This game is awesome. For some reasons, I completely overlooked this game when it came out. Thanks to Sony, I downloaded when it was given to us. I enjoyed almost every moment of it. Cole, the hero, is very cool. His powers are too and I could not wait to get the next one. There was good variety of side quests and would rarely end up doing the same type of quests over and over. InFamous is one of my all time favorites. It is a great break from boring and repetitive FPSs. First, the gameplay: new, fresh, fun, and dang enjoyable. The story is one of the best I've ever had the pleasure to be a part of. From the protagonists, antagonists, and everywhere in between, the story makes you care about the characters and what happens to them. The plot has great twists and turns as you discover more about the world you, Cole McGrath, has been flung into. Sure there are a bit ends and odds that could be tidied up and a more innovative hand-to-hand combat system would be amazing, but this game bring the comic book genre into the new generation. A great game and a worthy buy. Expand

If you didn't choose this game. then shame on you; you just gave up a good opportunity to experience this great game for free. Now you better go and find this game. Seriously, this is a great PS exclusive. It has the darkest superhero/villain story I've had ever experienced. You are Cole, a ordinary delivery boy who got superpowers after an usual freak incident. Now you have powers which you can use to either help or hurt others. Karma moments are frequently black and white, and there's just one that is grey and grey, but I won't spoil it. As you may know, it's an open-world game, and I love those games. Your powers are fun to use, and it plays like a third-person shooter, only that you use lightning instead of guns, which to me, is a good thing. Did I mention there's a whole universe for the inFamous games? Expand

A brilliant game that lets you choose if you want to be a hero, or one of the bad guys. The gameplay and the looks of the game are solid, and it is great fun to just walk/run/climb/hover through Empire City, whether you are saving or electrocuting its inhabitants in the process. Obtaining new powers is fun, and the XP system forces you to prioritize which you really need.

Minor faults haunt this game though. For weird reasons I randomly dropped through the level or was able to climb on unclimbable objects. It is also hard to feel real sympathy for the characters, as they are not quite recognizable.
Still, playing the game is great fun, and highly suggested if you own a PS3.

I also really enjoyed the soundtrack, it changed whether you were good or bad and it had a very industrial/city feel to it, tip of the hat to Amon Tobin. The side-quests are actually fun which I think is a rarity in today's games. I especially liked the parkour/timed satellite uplink missions. In retrospect, yes the karma system is a little flawed, it is very black and white, but that didn't detract from the fun I had playing both sides several times. Expand

Story: A take on the superhero genre, InFamous is set in the fictional Empire City, in which a massive explosion causs the rise of superpowered beings known as Conduits. Cole MacGrath is one of the people who turned into Conduits. Armed with electirc abilities, Colde must deal with the threats on the city in the forms of three Conduit factions, led by the aging Alden Tate, the deadly Sasha, and the mysterious Kessler. Now, he can choose to be either the city's savior, or its greatest enemy. - InFamous tells an amazing story of a man with superpowers who can decide if he wants to be a hero, or a villain. While the first half of the story is very good, the second half is simply outstanding, packed with emotional tones and enjoyable action mixed together so well. The characters themselves are well-written as well, from protagonist Cole to his BFF Zeke to the antagonists. 9.5/10.

Graphics: InFamous uses an in-house engine. Honestly, the game is somewhat inferior to other 2009 titles such as Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2. Thankfully Cole's powers look so good and the city, while a bit too brown and grey, is very well-designed. 8.5/10.

Sound: Top-notch voice acting alongside matching soundtrack done by the joint effort a five-man team. Some of the sound effects are rather hit-and-miss. 9/10.

Gameplay: Think of GTA mixed with super-powers of thunder and lightning. Throughout the game Cole will learn and upgrade more abilities. For the most part, it work, great. The boss battles are fun and well-designed to test the player. Platforming works very well and is easy to execute. There are, however, some AI problems, and the city itself feels somewhat lifeless at times, compare to GTA IV and AC2. 9/10.

Lasting Appeal: Story is 20+ long and has good/bad paths, so players can replay the game at least twice. There's a lot of side stuff to do after the main quest is over. Plus, it's just fun to be dicking around in Empire City. 10/10.

Verdict: Powered up with huge playground, enjoyable gameplay and powerful story, InFamous is a superb title in Sony's PS3 family, and a must-own for sandbox-genre or comic book fans.
    Final Score: 9.2/10

Who doesn't love to have the options of just going crazy on the baddies or the civilians/police.. and now we get to do it using the most electrifying moves ever invented. It takes a while to get all the powers, but that is when it truly gets entertaining. Having evil and good powers and endings make you want to play it over and over again.

STORY AND CHARACTERS: The story doesn't hook you right in and it's not that interesting. The comic cutscenes are great though. Cole has this interesting feature to be able to choose to be hero or villain. I liked it.
PRESENTATION: Great. The game looks and sounds great and the setting is pretty cool. It has that aftermath disaster look which is the point of the whole story.
GAMEPLAY: Who wouldn't like to have the power to wield electricity on the tip of their fingers? Add to this the ability to climb like Spider-Man, glide in mid air and skate on railtracks and electrical cables. What's not to like?
PROGRESSION: XP points traded on Cole's abilities and upgrades. Simple, unoriginal but effective.
    ONLINE: Unexisting but understandable.
InFamous has great gameplay but after a couple of hours you end up climbing buildings and electrocuting bad guys. Don't get me wrong it´s not a bad game but it lacks something...

The system of acquiring new moves was really good all dependent on that morality system everyone seems to be using these days. While the choice system is pretty black or white it is really fun and brings you into the game, it means you give your Cole his own sense of character which is good cause he needs it from somewhere. But the ending in terms of whether you are good or bad is very much similar so be ready for that but that in no way annoyed me as the ending was genuinely surprising and made me want to get the next infamous so bad... soo bad. So the story was great and original, the power and the way you obtain them was wonderful and it was really refreshing to be a super character in an open city. I really loved it and I don't think you will regret playing it. Sorry if I am wrong though. Expand

In the story are many great missions which will take you across three islands of Empire City and ,not spoiling anything, the story has a huge plot twist at the very end. The cutscenes are cool, the way you see them in a graphic novel sort of feel. The only downside to this game is the graphics which were a bit disapointing for the time and the lip sync is a bit off. But even still to sum it up in three words YOU NEED INFAMOUS! I give this game a 9.7 for its gameplay, powers, story and cutscenes. I know I'm a little late with this review, but I just put it up incase anyone hasnt played this marvel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While waiting for the network closing in April of 2011 to end, Sony finally ended it two months later, and gifted players with two free games on the PS3. Of one of those two games, I got inFamous, a brilliantly engineered third-person shooter game created by Sucker Punch, the creators of the critically acclaimed Sly Cooper series. Using a unique style of influence (Karma) and the powers of electricity, protagonist Cole McGrath must figure out who gave him a mysterious package that decimated six square blocks of Empire City, and why he/she gave it to him.

One day, Cole McGrath had to deliver a package to someone who was somewhere in Empire City (a depiction of New York state), specifically in the Historic District of the city. When the package was opened was opened however, Cole was in for the biggest surprise of his life. The package opened with a bang; a six square-block wide bang, that is. An electric explosion rocked Empire City, causing six-square blocks to be completely levelled and utterly destroyed. The rest I won't spoil, except for one thing: Cole gains the power of electricity.

The gameplay mechanics of parkour and karma really help to drive the game towards perfection, even though the area does manage to attract Cole to everything he can grab onto (magnetizing ledges and such). The music (albeit boring after a short time, making you wish you could listen to your own music) is really good; making each individual track must've taken time and effort to help fit in with some of the situations in the game. Each area of Empire City is cleverly designed to challenge Cole with strengthening enemies and twists at every turn in the storyline. Overall, the game is great, but most games are better than their sequels; this game is no exception. 10/10!

Graphics it had a cool artstyle with great looking character models, and the framerate was for most of the time consistent when things got really hectic during combat.

Gameplay All the controls felt good, during combat and roaming around empire city. The only problem i had was using the sixaxis during supermoves. Other than that the game had multiple side missions, along with main missions, and fun challenges. The only problem i had was that sometimes it felt like that a lot of the side content felt repetitive and rehashed.

Audio This was excellent, the music was perfect during combat, and the voice acting for cole was perfect. He had the gritty voice that help portray his character in a unique way.

Overall This is a pretty fun game, with some excellent level and free roam designs. Has a cool story with some cool graphics, and just running around the city being a superhero/ supervillian is a cool idea. The only problems i encountered were some repetitive side missions, and some inconsistent framerate when a multitude of things are happening on the screen, like multiple explosions.

Since the scoring on this website goes up bye 1s, i gave it a 9/10, but to me this game is more like a 8.75/10. Just some more polish and different side missions would have helped it to be a even better game.

    Good job Sucker Punch

The powers in the game make it great to explore the map, they are also a good fighting mechanic. The upgrade system makes you feel like you truly are an average person who is still learning how to use these powers. The moral choice system is also a nice addition as the story will have a different outcome depending on your choice of if you wanna be good and save the city or evil and bring it down. Minor complaints I found with the game. Maybe a glitch or two but nothing you won't look past or even notice at all. The game looks beautiful and feels alive as the people around you flee during your battles and notice you actions regardless of good or evil. The sound and voice acting is well done especially for the lightning effects. What was really well done was the way the story was told, this superhero/villain story is told in the form of comic book pages instead of actual cutscenes and I found that to be really cool. I'm assuming you have already read up on what this game is about, so let's get to it. First off the story in the game is the best superhero origin story I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. Not just that, but the story is extremely good! Although the ray sphere and super powers part of the game is not realistic, the world's response is. The government puts Empire City into quarantine and people go crazy. Major gangs form, and crime is uncontrollable. The game's map design and story elements really shows how this is a broken city. The voice acting is superb, although Cole's voice is quite gravelly, but it's not that bad for the tone of the game. Cole's best friend Zeke is awesome comic relief, although later in the game there is a more serious side to his character. Other characters are also well done. The best thing about the story is it flows and develops well and everything is believable and makes sense within the universe.
The karma system is mostly black and white, but there are some realistic and hard choices, as well as some silly ones, like choosing what poster best represents you. Although karma affects the story it doesn't really affect the final outcome. By the way, (no spoilers) but that ending is the biggest and best twist I've ever experienced.
The powers are very fun and gameplay is always new and challenging. The upgrade system works very well. You can upgrade powers differently based on if you are good or evil.
The game is open world and is fun to explore and find collectibles, do side missions, and mess around. The game has a lot to keep you interested after you finish the story on each side.
The only bad things I can say about this game are the graphics aren't the best and I've experienced a lot of glitches. So, not much.
I'm not saying the game is perfect, no game is. I'm just saying this is the best game I have ever played and it is extremely well done. It is rare that we get games this good. It really disappoints me that these games don't have a bigger audience for how good they are.

The story is very good indeed, game play as well. In my opinion, one of the best ps3 exclusive games out in the market.

I have been playing it since it launched and I can´t seem to get bored while playing it.

    Over all a 10/10

A very good open world title with a vivacious story and characters you really feel something for. Sucker Punch created a undestroyable franchise by making this game a real masterpiece. A must-play!

Weak narrative and characters bring this game down a bit. I would still recommend it though.

sorry to admit but i did enjoy Prototype more. i did play it before Infamous though. in comparsion Infamous lacks story wise. the movement feels less clunky in Prototype. also i did not really dig the comic/cartoonish style of Infamous.

Very nice game. Mixture of adventure and FPS, mechanics take over territories like assassin's creed, varied gameplay and variety of moves that FPS dream, there is no shortage, however, bugs. Interesting game that also is about to stand alone.

The extremes were then translated outside of the main missions in terms of how you react to distress signals from civilians.

You have to play through it at least twice to get a full understanding of the story. Your character also developed differently, depending on which extreme you chose on each mission. You could really resonate with the pain the main character had as he tried to make amends barred in a hugely dark, urban, depressing yet fascinating environment. A sandbox environment that was pulled off really well. Taking control of districts by completing side missions which also added to the depth of playing this game the way you want to play it. The freedom is awesome. Graphically the game was fantastic. The characters each paid great dividends to really amp the story in an awesome way; this made them really interesting and memorable.

There were also many different ways you could approach areas and complete certain missions in terms of the way you travel, the way you fight depending on your upgrades or whatnot weighted on either karma extremes. This made the game very fun for me because of the wide range of possibilities I could choose to act upon them.

The only reason I would give this amazing game a 9, that delivered a completely different experience after transitioning from PS2 - apart from the self-explanatory graphic improvement - is because of time-to-time glitches that were slightly irritating from time to time and the ridiculous amount of shards you had to collect to fully complete the game! Way too many, I mean I eventually did it but man that took a while.

To sum it up, awesome game. Would totally recommend to anyone that wants to go back to PS3 and start-up one of the older, classic great games of that generation.

Very fun and addicting game from Sucker Punch. Infamous draws you into the surroundings of Empire City and keeps you on the edge of your seat as you blast your way through the story. The visuals are amazing and I loved the amount of freedom you have in this game. Overall, it is a very fun game to play and is highly recommended.

Graphics are really good if you think that this game is from 2009. Gameplay is quite addictive. It reminds me a bit the Assassin'ts Creed and GTA but without driving and guns. I think this game can attract different kind of players. Voices in Spanish were good but it was difficult to follow the plot. Anyway, this game is defenitely a must have.

I have to say, I'm glad I only paid $5 for it because this game is a mess. Enemies constantly spawn in zones that you control and where the game explicitly tells you they will no longer appear. The camera will randomly flip from behind Cole to in front of him, messing up your jumps big time. Cole's climbing and his willingness to cling to everything is cumbersome. Some of Cole's upgrades feel hollow, especially the damage reduction one, as I see no difference at all. The sheer amount of enemies the game spawns on you at times is absolutely ridiculous as well. Keep in mind, this is the game on the easiest difficulty as well. The story seemed intriguing at first, but it doesn't really do well at holding it all together. The characters you're supposed to care about are either annoying and you want them to die instantly (looking at you Zeke and your stupid, pointless calls to me after every side mission), or they never really amount to much. John was supposed to be a huge part of the game, but Moya had me do so many tasks that had nothing to do with John, I soon forgot about him as part of the main story. For a while, I assumed his role would play out in nothing more than the dead drop side quest bits you'd come across every so often.

All in all, this game could have been something awesome, but the ideas and execution simply fell short. Frustrating controls, pin-point accuracy for enemies, and a subpar story all add up for a game that you'll quit before actually finishing it.

One of the best open world action games I've ever played. The free roaming was one of the best parts of the game. Not to mention the variety of different powers you get to wield throughout it. My only complaint being there weren't enough boss battles and a more convenient way to navigate throughout the three huge boroughs.

Un juego mejorable siendo pasado por encima por su secuela pero es entretenido, tiene fallos sobretodo con la IA como que te descarguen el cargador entero en tu body por muy cubierto que estés y en menos que un cani cante despacito.

"Infamous" is a superhero game that blends "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" with "Assassin's Creed". Developed by Sucker Punch, it's an open-world action title that is an absolute blast to play. While it's not a masterpiece, the game is better than "Prototype". If you liked the developer's "Sly Cooper" titles, than you'll love this. I would rate it with an 8.5 out of 10.

It had some missions from the story mode that I find very difficult to beat through and I've been doing side missions. Is it fun? Here are my thoughts. Coming from a fan of superheroes since childhood, who also sees this game as the Heroes (2006-2010) of PlayStation...YES, it's really fun to play. What a like about the cutscenes of this game is how it looked like it was made from a comic book. Which is funny because DC Comics had made a comic book series adaptation of the Infamous game which is why I thought Cole would've fit perfectly as a playable PlayStation exclusive character for Injustice: Gods Among Us, but nope, we got him in Street Fighter X Tekken for the PlayStation. Maybe it'll be cool to have Delsin Rowe or Fetch or maybe both to appear as playable PlayStation exclusive characters for the next Injustice game for the PS4 and/or the PS5 if Netherrealm Studios are planning on making one. I mean, Netherrealm Studios had Kratos in Mortal Kombat (2011) for the PS3, so why not? I'm not saying that they are doing that, I was saying that it would be cool if they do that. Anyway, I like how the story was made (which I rather not talk about here since this is a spoiler free review), especially the concept of the game which is why I should say it again, it's like the Heroes (2006-2010) of PlayStation. I had a fun time playing the game.

P.S. The only issue I have with the game which I agree with gamers who have the same thing with this game are the glitches which I'll have to get use to, but aside from that, it's still fun to play. I totally recommend it.

Cole's powers are cool, the graphic novel cutscenes are stunning, the story is intriguing, and the city is alive.

Most importantly, the movement and combat mechanics are fantastic, while the firefights (and the starring role of electricity) are a true spectacle. In this game the city is both your playground and your plaything, and you'll feel like a bad-ass.

While not wholly original, the game's blend of open world ideals with superhero powers is done with a verve that’s unsurpassed, and the mesh of platforming and freeform combat is uniquely satisfying.
