Great game. Haven't yet completed, but have played enough to say that this is an amazing game. The only thing that keeps it from being a 10 is that there a lot of times when you really don't know what direction you're being attacked from if you're not paying close attention to the HUD. I'm doing a "Good" playthrough right now, then will do an "Evil".

Great game overall, some bugs but they take from the innovative and new gameplay. Any reviews below an 8 are obvious bias. Great story-line, gameplay, and great graphics especially since its an open-world game.

Great fun. The game's missions don't get stale. I have played through the game twice now and the side missions are still fun to do. There is a lot of variety. Excellent game. Takes a long time to complete and is very addictive. A little frustrating at the beginning since you don't start off with many powers but it just gives you great incentive to play and gain powers. Story isn't bad either.

The story is unsurprisingly gripping from the creators of the Sly series, and the frantic action and frankly kick-ass electrical superpowers make it hard to put down. The gameplay is exceedingly addicting, and the slightly repetitive side missions are made up for the new powers and upgrades that you get while completing them. Graphically it is very impressive for a sandbox game. Pop-in is at a minimum, and is really only noticeable when you're riding a train at high speeds. Choosing to be good or evil is a satisfying experience, and doesn't change the overall story enough so that the much hinted-at sequel will suffer from the karma differences. Despite all this, inFAMOUS does have its issues, including occasional glitches. I once saw a Reaper (the first enemies you see) that was caught in a falling animation and just looped through the same fall over and over again. I also fell through the world one time, but it didn't have much of an effect on the mission since checkpoints are sprinkled around generously. I highly recommend this game. It can be described as a shooter with electric bullets (that happen to come out of your and) with an open world and platforming elements. A very solid game that is well worth the cash. Expand

A very fun open world game. I've never really been into these kind of superhero type games but this game is very big. I think the mission variety is enough to keep it from being repetitive. The enemy types may be few but the combination create more of a challenge.

Only a couple complaints and their all nitpicky such as, why cant I fire between rails or throuh a banister of sorts? The city could be bigger and last but not least the cutscenes do tend to take away from your well earned viewing. The comic book feel is definately neat but a full fledged cutscene showing some of the reveals in this game would have been sweet! The decisions are almost tough to make sometimes and I got more than nervous when playing through the negative side knowing that this action was going to push trish(coles GF) further and further away. I would say definately plenty of bang for you buck and saying that you strive for the Platinum trophy youll invest at least a solid 75 or so hours into this game. Cannot get enough of this game. Just beat it on the bad karma and am going back again for the good! Perhaps the game is a bit repetitive at times, but those times are far and few between. This game may not be the best looking, though the art and detail show a lot of love, it may include tons of bugs like lock up, clipping through, and a free floating frame rate. It may have all these issues and it still remains my current favorite PS3 game. I find the play fun, the story interesting, and the world compelling. I may actually give it a 2nd play through just to do all the bad stuff.

Not once did I think the game was getting too repetitive. Even though you go through the underground substations many times, you never get tired of it because each time you get a kick ass power. The graphics and cutscenes are completely amazing. I love the graphic novel style cutscenes. And the story of this game is beyond words. I have never bonded with a video game character since MGS4. You feel every consequence of the decisions you make. The emotional load you take when you decide to save or kill your girlfriend is incredible. You actually feel like you need to avenge her death if she dies.

While there are a few bugs here and there, it's nothing serious. The replay value of this game is mind-staggering, if you beat the game as a hero, you can play all over again as a villain and with a different story.

I earned 100% twice in just a week and I found myself finding nothing else to do. There is a massive lacking to how your actions actually affect the city itself. At the most, the citizens will react to your karma, but the city will not change. This really disappointed me. Karma is also underdone. You can easily achieve max karma for either side within a few hours. Infamous is a very fun game for awhile but it lacks what a sandbox truly needs, plenty to do. Expand

Writing this, all i can think about is how much fun this game has to offer, wich in my opinion is rare, as i find most game "entertaining" rather than "immensly fun" and i cant wait to dive back in Cole's shoes.Collecting "dead drops" add to the storyline in a unique and amazing way, blast shards arent a chore to collect unless you ran past every single one and want the trophy after you finish the game. What i do feel is missing on the other hand is the split in the story when you play as good vs evil, it doesnt really have THAT big of an impact on it, except for some parts wich i wont spoil, and playing evil, might not make a difference in a relatively "good" dialogue from Cole. But the sidemissions are relatively varied, as you get new ones from time to time, but the some goes on throughout the game wich can be a bit tedious (im looking at you "counter-surveillance) and i wish i could give a 9.5 because of that. But the game itself seems more about "here have these powers, now go have fun and do whatever you like" wich i found incredibly liberating, compared to games like gta iv wich gives you the same premise, but annoys the hell out of you with that god awful phone ringing all the time "where are you, get over there now, i have a job for you, bla bla bla". Then there are those who say "it sucks because after your done theres nothing else to do!" well how many games do you get lots of new content to do after you complete the game thats not repetitive and uninspiring? And should that Cloud over the fact that you just completed a game that had amazing gameplay, intuitive controls (ok so gliding should have been X+X so you could use lightning and such easier while flying) fluid storyline, amazing characters that really got my attention, i even stopped to listen to those propaganda shows on tv every time, great graphics, and inventive narrative? i rest my case Expand

It has a great story-line that has a nice little twist which I only guessed right at the end of the game in the final boss battle. The fact that it has a morality rate (karma) of being good or evil will change the outcome of the game and changes your powers completely and makes you at least play the game twice to get a feel of being good and then evil. It's good how each karma status gives you different effects on your power upgrades, such as good being able to give you energy and health, and evil being more destructive. inFamous also includes a nice set of trophies that aren't silly things like killing 500 pedestrians and killing 1000 enemies, but more like completed all stunts and traveling on a train for 2km, etc. It also has trophies as you progress through the story line, a set for being good and set for being evil. I would say it only has one flaw, and that's not being able to go inside buildings, the whole game is set outside, but it would of been better to be able to go inside buildings and trash the place instead of just blowing up cars. I would have definately given this game a rating of 10 if it included being able to go inside buildings. Expand

Unlike titles like Prototype that have no substance to the atmosphere and look like they take place in a flat textured vacuum inFamous gives a better sense of distance and height than any other game I can think of. Fighting enemies is very fun because the main character acquires many awesome electricity based powers, such as Shock Grenades which cause massive explosions and stick to enemies so that they become the center of the blast, Megawatt Hammer which is a power that lets Cole fire electricity orbs that act like rockets and by the end of the game he can create a lightning strike from the sky which can kill any enemy when they get into contact with it. He also gains powers which help him traverse through the whole city in the game faster, such as the induction Grind which lets him grind on rail tracks, wires and the like. I've been able to enjoy the game very much but there are a few problems with it. Like for example, the game has no new game+ option so you can't complete the game and restart from the beginning while retaining all your powers. After completing it you're left to explore the city and complete the side missions, get all the dead drops and blast shards, assuming you haven't done those before completion but most of the side missions aren't very fun and trying to acquire all the dead drops and blast shards get boring real quick. It blends some of the best known features in the world of consoles and does it well. You have the rural climber aspects of games like Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed. You have the Force powers style of Star Wars games. As your character evolves you get in to rail grinding at high speeds like SSX and traversing city-scapes at high speed like in Mirror's Edge. You will even get an ability to semi fly after jumping. You fight gangs and bosses, and accomplish missions like in Crackdown. All of this in an open sandbox city full of unique looking and unique voiced citizens, who dynamically change their dialog and actions based on how you behave in the game. For example, if you are a champion in the city, and the people love you, they will seek you out to help heal those who have fallen. Cheer you on and give words of encouragement. Take pictures of you as you go about your task of making the city safe. You will get powers to aid and help the citizens of the city. The controls are tight and responsive. All you need to do is think it and your hands seemingly get you there with ease. Simply amazing how smooth and in control one feels when playing. Even things like finding collectables become fun as you get a radar that locates them (there are over 300), powers to help you get to them, and a reward of more power as you find them. The fighting is fluid. You can stomp a baddy fist to boot, zap him from mid range, blow them up with grenades, toss them like leaves in the wind, throw cars at them, deflect their own explosives back, or even slow down time and snipe them from afar. There is a lite cover system implemented as well. The story is told through missions, npc contacts, cut scenes, television news stories, outlaw radio stations and hacked communication dishes. Voice acting is superb and convincing. You actually like the guy you are playing, an important bond in any sandbox game. A must buy game for any video game fan of the above mentioned games. A very good start for a IP we are sure to see more out of. Some sort of territory war DLC add on would make this game complete. A rare 10 out of 10 from me. Expand

The combat is fun and there are several ways to handle any combat situation (the game rewards you for being creative). The story is a little lackluster, but the immersion is there. As perfect as it seems at first glance, I do have a few complaints. First off, sometimes the motion animations are a little wonky, this isn't a huge deal but sometimes I wish Cole would just stand up straight. Some of the sound effects (namely the running sound effect) are also a little... odd, especially the footsteps sound effects (which unfortunately you hear all the time). Those complaints are very forgivable and only skindeep. My biggest beef with the game is it penalizes you for playing realistically. Upper level skills are unlocked via the karma system, which only has 2 options, play as a saint, or play as the devil. If you try to take the middle road the game slams you by not letting you unlock the highest rank abilities. While that might not be a problem for some, for me it kind of hurts the immersion of the game. In one mission I might want to kill the guy who just called me a terrorist, but that doesn't mean I want to kick puppies later on, however the game gives you no choice if you want those amazing shock grenades. There should be an option to be neuteral and still be a badass. Those flaws aside, the game is ridiculously fun to play. The side missions are diverse and plentiful (and fun to boot) the story missions can be challenging at times but overall the game is at a pretty low-moderate difficulty. A very fun game none the less, if you have a PS3 you won't be disappointed buying this game. Expand

I agree that a few of the side missions are a bit tedious (following the courier comes to mind), but what game HASN'T had tedious side missions of some sort? The replayability is a tiny bit above Grand Theft Auto 4, with a whole set of new missions for an "evil" playthrough, Cutscenes, while sparse graphically, are still interesting and fit the story perfectly. The "comic book" feel is really prevalent and I enjoy it thoroughly. Combat and controls are EXCELLENT. While still challenging when thirty people are shooting at you from surrounding rooftops, it's easy to feel like a superhero when you do a charged drop on a group of bad guys and spin around shooting bolts of electricity everywhere. Incredibly satisfying too. Honestly, I'm a bit wary of people who have rated this below a 7.5. You play as solid snake soundalike Cole Mcgrath, who is apparently american even though his name is clearly irish.Anyway the idiot accidently blows up the whole city, after being given a package to deliver,in which he fails to notice is in the shape as a bomb. He gains superhero like powers from the explosion,in which you can decide whether to use for the good,or for the bad,in other words be a goody two shoes and help others,or be a selfish bastard and blast everyone and everything in your site. Its great that you have a choice, but what pisses me off is that what it means,is that you need to play through the game twice,in order to get the full use of the story. Which is ok for most gamers, but not for me,See i'm not a great gamer im ok,but im the kind that will die eight times in one mission, just to work out what to do,lets just say im a trial and error gamer. I love the story, especially the twist at the end when Cole turns out to be really a women....well there is a twist but not that. Its a bit of a wrong start for me,i call myself the HarshGamerCritic but the first review i give,i'm not harsh at all,oh well. One thing that annoyed me,is once you have saved the game whenever you put the disc in to play again, there's no start menu so it just loads from the ps3 main screen, all the way into gameplay, which i wasn't aware of when i played it for the second time,i put the game in the console, went to the toilet with the game manual since i was still getting used to the game controls,so obviously i was shocked when coming out of the toilet,to see cole getting his irish ass handed to him by a bunch of reapers. That's the only thing i can really moan about, well apart from Cole's fat annoying fat friend Zeke and his ugly girlfriend trish, who was unfortunately dropped from a high storey building by kessler,in which i could have saved her but why would i,its not like she even gave Cole any sex since the explosion selfish bitch. Not much to say about Infamous apart from,im sitting with my ps3 sixasis dualshock 3 controller in my hand waiting for Infamous 2 so hurry up SuckerPunch,i haven't got all year. Expand

Can I have my review deleted, please? Thank you, it is as follows:

Thoroughly engaging on all levels, it excites the player with a good storyline, being able to forge your characters abilities/identities (like being able to pick certain missions and letting your actions speak for themselves with the guardian vs thug), and combining the dark, apocalyptic tone to enhance the good video

Choices like these rarely leave a room for any grey area but I still enjoyed it. You also get access to different powers depending on your karma level. The powers are always fun and are easy to control. The story is fun as well but largely relies on cliches until the last shocking twist (pun intended) that sets it up for the inevitable sequel. My only other complaint is the clunky platforming. Cole seems to enjoy missing ledges and falling 50 feet. The platforming in this game couldn't be much worse. The game is still a lot o fun and it's hard not to recommend for any PS3 owner. Expand

It's a good game but not one of the greatest. The game got repetitive and I came across some glitches but it's a good game nonetheless. Good story, good voice acting, good graphics for its time.

It was like Assassin's Creed with better combat and climbing and a less interesting, modern environment (you might like modern cities--I prefer historic settings). I really enjoyed this game. The mechanics of climbing and fighting were solid, and there was a great deal to do and see. The open world felt vibrant and added to the immersion. Infamous is an action game that puts the emphasis on the ''action'' rather then faffing around. The game is so fun because there is so much to do and the game is so long. The story is rather subtle because, you know, it gets in the way of the ''blowing **** up'' part of the game. So what do you do the entire game? you electrify, fry and zap everything that's in your way. The missions are varied so you usually don't do the same thing twice. The dialog is simple enough and has it's charm. The comicbook style of the game is very cool and the characters are interesting. The fact that you can choose how to play the game(evil or good) isn't that importent, except that you get a few different powers and moves and the story barely changes. of course, it's stil a nice touch. The free roaming in the game is really fun and intuitive. I really think ''Sucker punch'' did a fantastic job with this game, just as they did with the sly games. So let's say bravo, and knowing Indamous 2 is out I'm planning to buy the game as soon as possible. Electric awsomeness. Expand

A surprisingly deep and addictive take on sandbox gaming. Plays well, tells a genuinely good story, and entices for a second playthrough. A bit glum and repetitious for its own good but overall, quite an enjoyable experience.

Didn't know what to expect stepping into this game. After about an hour of play I found myself seeking out the optional side missions to extend the game. Also...pretty cool that the player really struggles with the choice of whether to be "good" or "evil". A solid title that makes me long for part 2.

inFamous is an exciting open world game with a solid story, good moral choices that change the outcome of the ending, great controls, fun mechanics, and some good graphics. Some repetition does hurt the mission structure towards the end, and RPG enemies on hard difficulty are frustrating and tiring, but otherwise this is a great game that Playstation 3 fans should own!

What I do not like, is the idea of, essentially, TO NEVER LET YOU REST A SINGLE MOMENT OF THE ENTIRE GAME! I really...REALLY hated that the game won't let you rest a moment and enemies will keep trying to kill you over, and over, and over, and OVER again!!! I was almost killed right when I woke up at the hospital, and when enemies would die, more would appear to replace them! However it's a good thing that you can shoot at them from the distance even though the controls are bothersome, but won't take long before you get used to it. However...WHY NO ENERGY BAR?! The idea of not putting an energy bar wouldn't be bad if the enemies wouldn't keep stalking the hell out of you and give you no rest, especially since this game isn't an fps, but an action, and even if not a bad idea in total in this game just ruins the experience, because you'll NEVER know when you're going to die exactly, not because of the colors fading, but because you're not gonna understand how much damage you're receiving, and in an free-roaming action game that information might be useful. This might be more of a rant, but as I said I DID like this game a lot: the fact you're a superhero is great, the powers are great and splitted in good and evil trees, the controls are loose but works just fine. I really couldn't stand the constant fightings in the street and the senseless idea of not giving you an energy bar...and if the energy bar isn't that much of an issue, the enemies will still be an issue and even if you try to escape, they all seem to be sniping with their rifles (no kidding, their aiming is very precise: you'll take more damage on the air than being on the streets). Maybe it's just my bad luck and I'm very sorry I couldn't rate this game higher: if you can pass over the flaws this game is going to be a lot of fun, but if you can't well I say..."if I want constant fighting to upgrade my skills in order to go on with the story and fight better, I'll play an RPG". In many ways the game comes across as slightly dated with the poorly animated characters in particular making Infamous occasionally feel older than it actually is. It is also hard not to feel many other aspects have been done better in other open world titles, including the co-op enabled Crackdown. There are other annoyances as well with the character not always grabbing on to the piece of scenery you intended, dull sidequests and enemies that spawn from nowhere who’ll then continually shoot at you whilst you try to complete the tasks set.

All these criticisms may make it sound like I completely disliked the game, but that is far from being the case. For at least the first half of the game (It outstayed it’s welcome by a good few hours) Infamous was generally quite fun, not to mention fairly challenging, with each of the powers being well implemented and traversing the city defeating enemies can provide a good few hours of entertainment. It’s by no means a classic but if you own a Playstation 3 its worth giving a go.

Incredible gameplay, great powers (wish for some more spectacular powers but that's just nit picking), great story and an amazing art direction as well. People compare Prototype and InFamous (and some throw Crackdown in there too) since they both came out around the same time, but they're both different games in how they handle and how they approach things and have positives in their own right. Cole's powers are cool, the graphic novel cutscenes are stunning, the story is intriguing, and the city is alive.

Most importantly, the movement and combat mechanics are fantastic, while the firefights (and the starring role of electricity) are a true spectacle. In this game the city is both your playground and your plaything, and you'll feel like a bad-ass.

While not wholly original, the game's blend of open world ideals with superhero powers is done with a verve that’s unsurpassed, and the mesh of platforming and freeform combat is uniquely satisfying.
