Maybe if my blast shards (of which there are 350 scattered throughout the city, and finding them directly boosts your power making tracking them down essential to survival) carried over I would have powered through it. But doing everything all over again seemed more like work than anything else. Also, I have a huge gripe with the moral choice system in these games today. Why is it that I always have to choose between saving a baby or eating it? It seemed more than anything like I'd have to go out of my way to be evil, and even then I couldn't side with the gangs nor the major villains so what's the point? Expand

Thoroughly disappointing game. For an open end sand box game, there's really not a lot to do outside of playing the same missions over and over again. This reminded me a lot of Assassin's Creed. Also, the moral choices you make are absolutely pointless and simple. They did nothing to change gamePLAY. Yes, you get different powers whether you're evil or good, but the gameplay is the same so you really never feel any consequence to either choice you make. The game is a blatant rip off so many games some of which weren't that good to begin with (Assassin's Creed). Fun for a few hours but not worth a trip to drop $60 bones plus tax for. Expand

There is plenty of fun to be had with the game, and it provides a challenge and lasts for a decent ammount of time. However, the problems are soon evident and by the close of the game, the gameplay becomes tiresome and predictable. Sure there is loads to do but it mostly consists of doing the same thing over and over again (climb that building, survive a shoot out etc). Couple this with some seriously flawed controls, a daft morality system, and some predictable and rather silly enemies and the games high points are overshadowed by its shortcomings. Its definitely got potential but needs more variety and better execution - worth it now when its goin cheep but dont expect too much. Expand

This game must be great to people who loved the "variety" of missions in MMOs. (In fact, Infamous feels a lot like City of Heroes, with its handful of enemy clans and catwalks in the sewers missions.) (In fact, Infamous feels a lot like City of Heroes, with its handful of enemy clans and catwalks in the sewers missions.) Personally, I wanted to do more than just mash buttons; I seldom felt engaged with the story at all. Mostly I was just following waypoints.

The much-lauded moral choices are so blatant and black-and-white as to be laughable. You are explicitly prompted to choose the good or evil action. In addition, while there are some differences in the side missions, the power upgrades you receive, and the epilogue, there is really no difference in the storyline depending on your choices. In fact, the evil path oftentimes makes no sense.

Ultimately, though, the biggest problem is the gameplay. In addition to all the random glitches, like invisible barriers that prevent you from proceeding forward on seemingly flat terrain, cameras that move for no reason, and so on, much of the gameplay and control is poorly designed. For example, while in aim mode, the right stick is used to pan and tilt, but all but the basic attack are on the right face buttons, which means that you cannot aim and fire at the same time with anything but the basic attack. Oftentimes the supposedly more difficult foes are far easier to defeat than the random footsoldiers, frequently due to the fact that they are much larger and the aiming is so twitchy.

That said, it's not a bad game, it's merely mediocre. But it gets incredible reviews, and I really just don't understand why.

However, after the first hour, I realized this was the only thing I liked about the game. The gameplay is tiring and repetitive, and the plot had no thickness to it that dragged me in and made me stay with this game until the end. Instead, I was sitting, regretting my purchase and wondering why this game had been given such high reviews. Other people may feel differently, but in my opinion, it wouldn't hurt to give inFamous a miss. Expand

Playing Infamous I was instantly reminded of Crackdown (that had been released two years earlier) with the game providing an open world in which to make use of all manner of superpowers, and complete missions of course.

In many ways the game comes across as slightly dated with the poorly animated characters in particular making Infamous occasionally feel older than it actually is. It is also hard not to feel many other aspects have been done better in other open world titles, including the co-op enabled Crackdown. There are other annoyances as well with the character not always grabbing on to the piece of scenery you intended, dull sidequests and enemies that spawn from nowhere who’ll then continually shoot at you whilst you try to complete the tasks set.

All these criticisms may make it sound like I completely disliked the game, but that is far from being the case. For at least the first half of the game (It outstayed it’s welcome by a good few hours) Infamous was generally quite fun, not to mention fairly challenging, with each of the powers being well implemented and traversing the city defeating enemies can provide a good few hours of entertainment. It’s by no means a classic but if you own a Playstation 3 its worth giving a go.

PRESENTATION: Great. The game looks and sounds great and the setting is pretty cool. It has that aftermath disaster look which is the point of the whole story.
GAMEPLAY: Who wouldn't like to have the power to wield electricity on the tip of their fingers? Add to this the ability to climb like Spider-Man, glide in mid air and skate on railtracks and electrical cables. What's not to like?
PROGRESSION: XP points traded on Cole's abilities and upgrades. Simple, unoriginal but effective.
    ONLINE: Unexisting but understandable.
InFamous has great gameplay but after a couple of hours you end up climbing buildings and electrocuting bad guys. Don't get me wrong it´s not a bad game but it lacks something...

the aiming controls are awful and not very efficient, the enemies are just reskins of each other or defined by what weapon/attacks they use, the missions get extremely repetitive where you either escort prisoners, save or kill certain targets, race from point a to b, etc and no lie when i spent about 10 hours just on the first island and went to the second and it was so similar to the previous one i thought i was still there. The bad things begin with bugs. I know, games are shipped with them all the time. The best games do contain bugs. However, when the bugs start to mess with the experience of the game in a negative way, I will start to be annoyed. This includes me being killed by touching solid ground after jumping a meter in the air. No enemies, no land mines, no water, not even my own projectiles, yet I was still killed.

A minor issue is the jerky animation. The excuse that games were just like that back then is not a good excuse, as Uncharted 2 came out the same year and has aged fairly well.

My next complaint is the difficulty. I played on Normal up until halfway through the Warren missions, where the difficulty was so controller-breakingly annoying that I turned it down to Easy. I still struggled on that mode though. Infamous 1's normal mode is Infamous: Second Son's hard mode. I would know, I have the platinum for Second Son.

My final complaint is the enemies. Oh my good lord, the enemies. They are the only bad part about the entire game. Collect 350 blast shards, okay. Beat the game on both Hero and Infamous, of course I'll do it. Beat the game on Hard Mode, yeah no (I still did lol), not with those enemies. Some story missions and side missions consist of enemy spamming to the point of insanity. The only time it worked was the mission after you got the Thunderstorm move.

Overall, it did deserves a 6/10 for what it was.

In game acting and casting has come on leaps and bounds this generation but not in this game. The open world is designed reasonably well in terms of layout but is entirely uninteresting to explore and collectables and side missions feel like a complete grind. Actually the main story path feels like a grind too. Compare to the likes of Batman and this really highlights the flaws on infamous.

The electric powers that make up this games main mechanic are fun at first, but few are used alk that creatively and the combat is rarely anything special, enemies are easily dispatched yet are also a constant worry as they're all shockingly good marksmen, causing this game to suffer from quite severe "who the hell is shooting me?!" syndrome. Add in a city with no life too it, no real landmarks or anything really distinct to it, and you have a somewhat boring by-the-numbers game.

Story wise there's nothing special happening here, it's a barely explored cliché story about a gang controlling a city with a contrived binary morality system which periodically asks you stupid extremes, "would you like to save the baby from the burning building or wait 20 minutes and add barbecue sauce?". The story seems obsessed with sending you into the sewers regularly, which makes an otherwise drab game even more drab.

In short, if you like open world action and superheroes, you may get some fun from this but I'd expect the game to wear out it's welcome for most gamers, I struggled to motivate myself to finish this one. Admittedly this game is fun for the first few hours, I just can't help thinking; yet again, that this same style of game was done better by Spider-man on the PSOne... which for a PS3 game, that's a rather damning sentiment.

The camera will randomly flip from behind Cole to in front of him, messing up your jumps big time. Cole's climbing and his willingness to cling to everything is cumbersome. Some of Cole's upgrades feel hollow, especially the damage reduction one, as I see no difference at all. The sheer amount of enemies the game spawns on you at times is absolutely ridiculous as well. Keep in mind, this is the game on the easiest difficulty as well. The story seemed intriguing at first, but it doesn't really do well at holding it all together. The characters you're supposed to care about are either annoying and you want them to die instantly (looking at you Zeke and your stupid, pointless calls to me after every side mission), or they never really amount to much. John was supposed to be a huge part of the game, but Moya had me do so many tasks that had nothing to do with John, I soon forgot about him as part of the main story. For a while, I assumed his role would play out in nothing more than the dead drop side quest bits you'd come across every so often.

All in all, this game could have been something awesome, but the ideas and execution simply fell short. Frustrating controls, pin-point accuracy for enemies, and a subpar story all add up for a game that you'll quit before actually finishing it.

Most importantly, the movement and combat mechanics are fantastic, while the firefights (and the starring role of electricity) are a true spectacle. In this game the city is both your playground and your plaything, and you'll feel like a bad-ass.

While not wholly original, the game's blend of open world ideals with superhero powers is done with a verve that’s unsurpassed, and the mesh of platforming and freeform combat is uniquely satisfying.
