  1. But ultimately how much you personally enjoy Guitar Hero: Aerosmith depends on how much you like the band. If you love Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is easily the best Guitar Hero yet.
  2. The game does provide a challenge, but unlocked characters from GH 3 should have rolled over into this title. And while there is a great list of songs here, others that might have provided a little more variety to the compendium of the band’s best songs of all time are missing.
  3. Guitar Hero Aerosmith delivers where it counts — with great music enhanced by the chance to play along.
  4. The only thing running against Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is the price. For about the same price as the game - $50US - consumers can download these tracks online to their PC for less.
  5. It’s a shame that only a few real hits have found their way into the game.

With a lack of downloadable content and a disappointing short set list GH: Aerosmith certainly isn't for everyone.
  7. The delivery is tried and true, but it is starting to feel a bit old.
  8. Thankfully, the inclusion of master tracks and a slick menu interface means that this title sounds and plays exactly how it ought to.
  9. How much you enjoy Guitar Hero: Aerosmith will be adjusted on how much you enjoy Aerosmith music.

It does make for some great Guitar Hero tracks. [Sept 2008, p.78]

It's tough to get excited about Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. It's essentially a re-release of Guitar Hero III with a new song list and some new avatars.
  12. Neversoft and RedOctane played it safe by changing little to nothing in the Guitar Hero franchise with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.
  13. And as a huge Aerosmith fan, I certainly enjoyed having most of my favorite songs compiled into a single game, but ultimately this game is nothing more than a tribute to Aerosmith and you had better be a big fan if you want to play, otherwise, save your cash and spend it on song downloads you really like.

There's no doubting the single band formula is a solid road for Guitar Hero to venture down, it will obviously shrink the market as it narrows the appeal a tad but if you love the band in question it'll pretty much be a dream come true. Me? I'd be more excited about a Queen or Guns 'n' Roses version but this is a decent first go.

With bonus songs from Perry's solo efforts and a fully animated Steven Tyler swallowing the microphone, the game's target audience is very clear -- and for them, the game's existence is justified.
  16. Really, the game looks and feels much like Guitar Hero III, but done better. How much better? That's going to be about as subjective as the track listing the band, Activision and Neversoft cobbled together.

I think the player review scores on this game are pretty harsh and that the professional review score of 7/10 is spot on. The game is prettyI think the player review scores on this game are pretty harsh and that the professional review score of 7/10 is spot on. The game is pretty solid but the preferences of how the game was instituted is likely the reason the player review scores are so harsh. Let me explain by way of comparison....when you buy guitar hero Metallica you want Metallica....and they deliver on this very quickly. It is essentially open world in the sense you need to unlock very few songs to open up more Metallica songs. The presentation is also fantastic and the backup band songs are what you would expect and blend nicely into the mix of choices. In Aerosmith this is not the case. You start off as a small band and must play through songs you may really have no interest in. This is chorelike for a lot of songs. Then you finally get to play Aerosmith but you have no choice. So not very open worldish. I understand this may be this way for immersion but I think it's a mistake given how many guitar heros have been released prior I think we all had this immersion style already and it's getting old. With a dedicated band to this game that's most likely why the buyer made the purchase. In some fairness the game does build going from their roots and building steam to their better songs as you go, but again it seems like a long walk for a short drink of water. On top of that the Aerosmith songs are not really all that fun when compared to some of the backup cover songs you must go through. This really distracts from the dedication of the band you made the purchase for. Overall this game I still competent but not nearly as high a caliber as a fan would like. Sure you like the music but you also want the game and it's noticeably weaker compared to much of the competing guitar hero offerings. Still a decent game though but the energy and pizazz of the game doesn't shine like it should with this band. Full Review »
