Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

All in all, while certainly not a bad game, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith leaves a lot to be desired.

The lack of downloadable content is a shame, especially with certain Aerosmith tracks like "Amazing" and "Chip Away At the Stone" missing. The guitar-strumming gameplay is what you would expect from a Guitar Hero game, catchy and entertaining, although there's nothing new.

It's not that the game has the wrong songs, but that it has so few of them. For $60, you can't help but feel a little cheated when all you get is Guitar Hero III with a light coat of paint and barely half the songs.

Oversights, like not being able to access downloaded GH:3 tracks, are baffling and the number of covers for non-Aerosmith tracks is disappointing. For die-hard GH and Aerosmith fans it's a no-brainer, but everyone else might want to save their money for World Tour.

The latest Guitar Hero is an Aerosmith fan's dream come true, but the game's narrow focus and lack of content will prove unappealing to many others.

Guitar Hero Aerosmith isn't a bad idea, but the execution is so lazy that it's hard to recommend.

It could have been a pack of downloadable content for Guitar Hero III. But Aerosmith fans will certainly like it. Some of the tracks are actually fun, mostly due to Joe Perry’s quality as lead guitarist. But it doesn’t add anything new to the franchise. [Aug 2008]

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is strictly for the hardcore Aerosmith fan or the true Guitar Hero collector.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith does nothing for players, unless we're speaking of the biggest Aerosmith fans.

The title says it all. If you like Guitar Hero and Aerosmith, pick it up. If you only like Guitar Hero, wait for the next real GH game like the rest of us.

The game feels, to all but the most hardcore of Aerosmith fanboys, like a rather cynical cash-in. Zero evolution, minimum effort, maximum profit.

Our feeling is that in this era of downloadable Rock Band albums for 13 quid - a price that's often criticised anyway - single-band games will have to offer gameplay innovations, spectacular fan service, or a lot more material than this to justify their existence and, more pertinently, an asking price of 40 quid without the guitar peripheral.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is a sound of a series cautiously dipping its toe in the water, slightly afraid of how the big bad Rock Band shark will react to its presence.

It's just sort of a bummer not to see anything new brought to the table other than a digital Steven Tyler (which actually looks less freakish than the real Steven Tyler).

It’s hard to say that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is a bad game, it really isn’t. However it is most definitely not worth the full price that is being charged for it when it could be played to satisfaction as a weekend rental for all but the biggest completionists.

Plainly put, GH: Aerosmith could have been an Aerosmith “Best Of” album released as DLC and nothing would have been lost. Even at that, most of Aerosmith's best known songs are strangely absent.

Look, if you’re the type that needs to download every song for Guitar Hero, nab a godly Top 1000 slot on yet another Guitar Hero leaderboard, or fawn over the Aerosmith poster double-sided-taped onto your wall, then you’re probably not going to listen to what anyone says about picking up a copy.

Even if you're a big Aerosmith fan I could suggest skipping this over, unless you're really itching to play some new Guitar Hero tracks.

Guitar Hero wrapped in a really good gimmick. Aerosmith is a fun and exciting band to the right people, but the core gameplay is too stale to really warrant anything more than an average score.
