A slavishly accurate conversion of a classic racer thought lost to the smoky arcade mists of time, Sumo Digital has retained the joy of the 1996 original while bolstering the game with a handsome offering of online modes and an attractive high definition overhaul.
  2. A gem of a game. In the current racing landscape littered with big-budget and hugely hyped titles, this is a refreshing sunbeam which stands out by trimming all the unnecessary fat.

Heavy on nostalgia, light on content. [Christmas 2008, p.86]
  4. This remake of the revolutionary driving game hasn't improved the original work. However, we get a simple arcade game with lots of personality for the PlayStation Network. Its game mechanics, the circuit design and the lack of a solid multiplayer mode -especially a split-screen one- makes it just a plain fun game.
  5. A faithful port of the original. GTI Club+ does what it says on the tin, nothing more, nothing less.

    Amusing and distinctive. [Issue#174, p.93]

Those who have been waiting for this port can relax. However, Konami has done little to improve on what is still a winning formula. [Christmas 2008, p.103]
  8. It's a game fundamentally incapable of not running you down now and then, but the clarity of control and aspiration give wry subtext to its rightful claim to "high definition".
  9. If you want variety you'll likely grow tired of GTI Club+'s relatively meager content, but if you're someone who can spend days perfecting a single lap and fancy a bit of no nonsense arcade multiplayer gaming, look no further.
  10. Sure, there’s no damage modeling, the crash physics are nonsense and the graphics won’t bother Polyphony - but this isn’t the point: GTI Club+ rewards continuous play with a perfectly pitched learning curve: your laps will get quicker every time until you’re in that Wipeout-esque zone, chicaning between traffic and drifting around corners without even thinking.
  11. For those moments in which you want doses of immediate races and guaranteed satisfaction Gti Club + reveals itself competent and it could be a good choice to add to a Christmas list, particularly tempting for its price of 12 € at the PS Store.

GTI Club+ is a fairly fun arcade racer that's short on content. As it is, fans of the genre will probably like what's here, but after a bit you can't help but wish there was more to it. Still, give it a go if you like old-school arcade racers.
  13. Fans of the original arcade version will get a kick out of playing this PlayStation Network racer, but a steep price and limited replay value limit its longevity.

Brilliant in its day, but not enough to hold your attention for long. [Christmas 2008, p.84]

    Throwaway fun. [Christmas 2008, p.117]
  16. Easily accessible arcade action, with hilarious multiplayer modes. Doesn't captivate the player for much longer than a few hours though, but it's fun while it lasts.

With only the graphical layer receiving much attention it lacks the necessary breadth and depth to elevate itself far beyond the status of nostalgic curio. [Jan 2009, p.97]

They did a good job porting it. It is perfect except for the fact there is only one level. For what I paid there is not enough content to justify the price. Online players all have the expansion pack, leaving me out of gameplay. Too expensive, but probably the most fun racing engine. Full Review »
