    Rockstar produces a great game. Falls right in line with all the other GTA games. Does have a little bit more of a serious tone to it but that didn't take away from the game at all for me. The only thing in the game I didn't care for was the friends calling up wanting to do something all the time.     I'll be the first to admit that I don't appreciate the use of drugs and/or sexual content found in the game but Grand Theft Auto IV does thankfully improve over III massively. The open world and narrative are amazing and it seems as though a lot of work was put into designing such an intricate game. Open world is always something I love in games with this one not disappointing one bit.     This is by no doubt the best game ever made. GTA IV is holding up so well, there are few games that are as good or will ever be as good.

    It is by no doubt it is one of the highest rated games of ALL TIME.

    This is how it should be done. What a step up from the previous GTA games this was. And the drunk animations and various effects are actually better in this than in GTA5

    This game is so awesome. The gameplay has progressed so much. And the story is so thrilling and interesting with some comedy which touches different people in society but touches on their negative side with a range of moral decisions to make. I was more interested in the story than the gameplay itself as the story is about a Russian who comes to liberty city for revenge and is influencedThis game is so awesome.     Usually when "Grand Theft Auto" comes out, it takes a good week or two for the initial "WOW!" factor to wear off. I purposely put off reviewing this until I had completed the entire game, because by then I knew I'd have some time to take it all in and form a more objective opinion.
    First of all, early criticisms included accusations that the game was "too short." Yes,    Warning: Spoilers
    Usually when "Grand Theft Auto" comes out, it takes a good week or two for the initial "WOW!" factor to wear off. I purposely put off reviewing this until I had completed the entire game, because by then I knew I'd have some time to take it all in and form a more objective opinion.

    First of all, early criticisms included accusations that the game was "too short." Yes, perhaps - if you rush through it over the course of a caffeine-enhanced weekend. For those of us with modest social lives and jobs who can't devote 12 hours a day to a video game, it'll take a while. I played about 35 hours before beating the "basic" single player missions - and I say "basic" because there's a lot more to do in the game once you've completed the main structure. I can still get in a cop car and chase down criminals if I want to, or perform assassinations, or find all the stunt jumps, or street race cars. It's quite limitless.

    But anyway, like I said - it took about 35 hours to beat the main structure of gameplay, which translated into a solid two weeks. It may be a tad bit shorter than "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" but I had so much fun I wasn't counting.

    The pros of the game are: better graphics, more realistic graphics engine and physics, better on-foot fighting/gunplay controls, more attention paid to the storyline and characters, and an overall more expansive universe.

    The downsides are: even though the controls for fighting are better, they still need drastic improvement; the whole "duck/dodge" thing is quite lame and doesn't work half the time. If you lock onto someone and try to lock onto somebody else instead, it doesn't work correctly - or fast enough. Sometimes during missions I'd try to lock onto the villain and end up locking onto a pedestrian further away. The "free aim" pressure sensitivity is also confusing.

    I do think there's a bit of contrivance towards the end of the game as well. I won't put any spoilers in, but suffice to say you're playing a fairly ruthless thug who has a heart compared to past GTA characters but nonetheless has no qualms with kidnapping a girl and referring to her in derogatory terms, or killing countless people, but is then expected to show more depth towards the end for a female character that is underdeveloped to begin with. I can understand what they were TRYING to do and I admire that, but they should have expanded the relationship between Nico and Kate before attempting to pull that off. Nico ends up coming across as something of a self-absorbed person at the end, because you have to wonder if the motivation for revenge is really because he cared about this other person or whether it's just because he wants to prove to himself that he has room to care about someone.

    Really, though, that's the only fault. The overall mechanics of the plot and the expansiveness of it all is cinematic and deeper than any other GTA game.

    The physics are far better than previous games which has caused some people to complain because they can't flip their cars a hundred times and keep driving, but I liked it. Liberty City is totally revamped and looks and feels like a real, living city - it's amazing. The attention to detail is quite impressive - non-characters walking down the street just start smoking cigarettes or drinking coffee. Sometimes as you pass by someone too fast they'll drop their bag of groceries or stumble over. I can't wait to see what a GTA game will look like in ten years' time.

    Too much has already been said about this game for me to add anything new or insightful, really, but I will end this by saying I disagree that it's "by far" the best game of the series. I love it about as much as I loved "Vice City," which was probably my favourite. It's hard to compare them because each has their strengths. I didn't like San Andreas quite as much as Vice City but even "San Andreas" had the benefit of planes and skydiving and bicycles which have been removed from GTA IV. But basically I think this fits in well with the others; it has enough advancements to be truly "fresh" while still providing the same dark humour and basic gameplay attributes of previous games. It's a solid addition to an already excellent franchise and just a lot of fun.    … Expand

    Great game in general, a good story, many things to do after you finish the game, an awsome online mode with a huge content, a must own for everyone, the online mode will attract you for many hours.

    From the first moment i saw this game until the 13th time i finished it i just loved every second of it. I've been gaming for 22 years now and i have finished thousands of games but GTA IV will always be the best game of all time for me. A True Masterpiece!

    This was the most amazing gta after gta V.But i remember how bad was driving mechanics I always had to call taxi.I still love this game but its getting its age and no longer interests me.

    For me as as a GTA fan this is great game.Even now 7 years after release this is must have game.

    Grand Theft Auto 4 is the best in the series in my opinion and the reason for this is because it's more realistic, it's open world like the other games is great, it has a great story, it has more weapons and it has more vehicles that you can drive in. I just love going around and shooting and running over people (don't worry, i won't do that in real life).

    This game describes how the crisis of 2008 maked the life of some americans fall down, because all in this game is based on that historical moment, i really enjoyed to play as Niko Bellic, a serbian guy whch comes becuase war destroyed his life, and he arrives a travel to liberty city, the worst city to live in america.

    This game is still a 10 in 2021, aged like fine wine.

    Still has amazing physics, pretty decent graphics, greeaat story line, great side missions, amazing dlc's.

    A seriously amazing game for its time, and in my opinion, vastly underrated by the community.

    the game play is good but the gun controls could have bin better and a few other things like the ability to fly , the online spectrum of the game was good and still is with a modding community still active

    Grand Theft Auto IV is a good game, but a good slump after coming from San Andreas.

    A very worked history and that perfectly links with the depressing and decadent Liberty City.
    Niko Bellic is perfectly one of the best protagonists of the saga.

    GTA IV included a gameplay that was pretty good, but the realistic driving of the vehicles did not contribute very well to the fun.

    I think Grand Theft Auto IV is better than it's sequel, the story and characters are very interesting and the world feels so alive. The game never gets old because of the endless opportunities. GTA IV is a must have if you own a PS3 or 360.

    It's amazing how well this game has aged. It's outdated in the graphics, that's a fact, but in the rest, History, Details, Characters, Soundtrack... it's absolutely spectacular.
    Many of the details that makes the game more realistic, don't even exist in today's games (Open world games).

    I have played lots of GTA 5 before I first played GTA 4 a few years ago. I always thought that GTA 4 would be worse than its sequel. But in my honest opinion. GTA 4 is a way better game. Its so amazingly written and the city feels so lived in. You can enter so many buildings. You can pick up random stuff from the streets.
    I love the tone the game sets. Its darker than the other GTAs but I    I have played lots of GTA 5 before I first played GTA 4 a few years ago.     The story is a lot more than inspiring and teaching. There's something special about this game... It's a lot different than San Andreas, and i think the grayish color gives it its special feel, since the story is dark by itself. Lagging, stuttering, bugs and all other bad things are just too small for the greatness of this ever lasting classic.

    Un juego de primera, a pesar de los años a envejecido bien, sus físicas son increíbles y mejores que GTA 5 pero en frame rate es pésimo en ciertos momentos pero lo suficientemente bueno para ser disfrutable su historia es genial, eso sí no hay música de fondo pero es lo de menos, en definitiva un buen GTA, aunque, algo infravalorado al día de hoy

    GTA IV. For me the best GTA ever made. The dark atmospheres of the streets of Liberty City, the American dream of Niko Bellic, The harsh reality, the soundtrack. Everything fell into place in this game.

    It is therefore not surprising that, years later, I can still evoke the feeling I had during my first playthrough.

    In short, a unique experience of the best GTA so far.

    I've gotten platinum in every GTA game available on console and I must say, this one didn't disappoint at all. The graphics for the time were amazing. While the driving felt like boats and was nowhere good as GTA 5, it was still fun and the flying mechanics were much more enjoyable than that in GTA 5. The story was amazing.     The best gta ever released. I think rockstar could have done something with secundary missions and other activities to do in free play when you finish the game, but it is the most realistic game that i ever seen, everthing is perfect like real life.

    Great world and tons of content. Great character in Belic, a hardened criminal without the glamour that is usually portrayed in films nowadays.

    Only negative is that pesky Roman insisting for a date.

    It was released back in 2003.. yet still better than GTA V.

    Things I liked.
    • The physics.
    •The graphics/how the game changes colors based on who you play.
    • all the small details that make the world of this game feel alive.
    •No flying bikes.
    •No sharkcard **** attached.
    • And finally, the actual crime story they tell instead of something that's trying to rip-off sants row.

    Another incredibly solid entry for the Grand Theft Auto series. One of the most essential games for the PS3 and one of the most iconic too. Suffers from a lot of the same issues its brother-games also do, such as repetitiveness and recycled missions, but overall a great game.

I can't speak for other people, but in my opinion, it is the best GTA, the best game of 2008, the greatest game on the PS3, and I will not hesitate to say that this is the best game I have ever played in my life. It is that good. So let's talk about why.

    This game. Is amazing. It nails almost every aspect of it greatly. The story is great; it's in a not so steep competition for best GTA story. You play as Niko Belic of Yugoslavia (now Serbia), as he has just moved to America for a better life, escape from his former employer, and finding a man who double-crossed him 10 years ago. He lives with his older cousin, Roman Belic. As the story progresses, he meets several characters, some of which become his very good friends (Little Jacob, Packie, Dwayne, Brucie) and others, no so much (Vladimir, Dimitri, Mikhail.) The story involves completing missions for several of these characters, while the narrative keeps going. The overall tone of this game and its story is very dark and dreary, with some comedy sprinkled throughout. Liberty City (the city where this game takes place in) is basically portrayed as hell. Crime runs rampant, drugs and dealers run the streets, and death is practically everywhere. In the end, you find the man who betrayed Niko, and Dimitri Rascalov (along with a man named Jimmy Pegorino, depending on which side of the story you chose) betrays Niko, leading him to kill Dimitri (or Pegorino) in the final mission. What makes GTA IV impactful is that no matter which ending happens, you don't get a happy ending. One of Niko's closest is killed off (debatably at the peak of their relationship too) and the story ends with Niko trying to live a normal life, distancing himself from crime.

    Of course, when you're not playing the story, you can always just mess around and go off the story path. Running around in GTA IV's massive open world is a thrilling experience. There is plenty to do in the world. There are many little minigames to play including darts, pool, boating, and of course, bowling. You can also just walk around and kill people using GTA's controls. The controls in this game are excellence. It never feels like my controller refuses to work, or there is that one button on the controller that is completely worthless. Every button on the controller does something, and it does it justice. The movement is fluid. Walking around in the game might actually be easier in the game than in real life. And shooting is even easier, along with satisfying. Shooting is very easy to understand, and feels very good.

    Overall, this game is one of the best experiences in a lifetime. You need to give it a spin. 10/10    … Expand

    This is by far the best open-world game I have ever played. The story is straight-up breathtaking and the graphics are really good for the game is so old. Niko Bellic who is the main protagonist is also one of the best protagonists in all of GTA history.

    Dazu kommen die Anrufe der Freunde zum Treffen. Man kann nur annehmen oder ablehnen --> warum kann man nicht einen späteren Termin ausmachen? so ist man häufig auf halbem Weg Richtung Mission und muss wieder umdrehen.
    ABER: Die Geschichte, die Optik und das grundlegende Gameplay sind wirklich spaßig, auch noch 2022.    … Expand

    One of those deserted island type video games where the gameplay and story is so endlessly replayable.The addictive physics, driving, combat and shooting mechanics make this Grand Theft Auto the best in the series and one of the best games of all time.

    The game isn't near the perfection but i can tell you that this game is very good and it is a must-play. The story is great, one of the the darkest ones if not the darkest in all GTA history, the dark/grey graphics fit very well the atmosphere and the story, the driving is not very realistic but it's way more realistic than on GTA V, and than it deserves an 8/10

La trama puede gustar más o menos, pero personalmente la temática de mafia rusa me parece interesante. No le otrogo el 10, por el modo online algo deficiente y metido con calzador, es la primera vez que un GTA tiene online y no ha salido bien del todo, el modo libre era lo que más jugaba sus usuarios. Recomiendo jugar este gran juego, a día de hoy sus físicas realistas siguen divirtiendo y chocar con todo es la bomba. Si no lo has jugado te ofrecerá muchas horas de entretenimiento.… Expand

    Grand Theft Auto IV definitely isnt a perfect game, but it i enjoyed it from start to finish and beyond.

    What i hate about this game is small map... you are limited to play whole game on "one island".
    On the other hand i liked the story.. typical pattern zero to hero.

Lo malo de este juego es la gama de colores de las texturas, la poca variedad de armas, de ropa, coches y varias cosas. Aunque el mapa este bueno por ser NY, le faltan cosas: vegetación, lugares accesibles (como burger shot, chicken bell, etc) y que sea mas amplio.     While the story could be better, somehow I grew fond of the main character, and I enjoyed going through the missions and completing the game. I feel the world is pretty big, there's quite a lot to see and do without it getting too repetitive. You can spend a lot of time playing this game, especially if you want to complete all the side missions, so you definitely get your money's worth

    I'll be honest, this was my first ever GTA game I played. And it didn't diappoint. The friend feature was fine for a lil bit, but then got really annoying after awhile. I can't say much about the multiplayer since I didn't play that portion of the game.

In fact, the main protagonist of GTA IV known as Niko Bellic, is among the best characters in video gaming history. GTA IV can be pretty divisive and it might not be everyone's cup of tea. It doesn't recycle the tried-and-tested GTA formula, and does a great job of differentiating itself from all its predecessors and also the most recent installment, GTA V.

    Grand Theft Auto IV is an extraordinary game, a masterpiece that leaves an everlasting impact on the gamers.

    Esto es pura obra de arte , con una ambientación llevada a la perfección, intentando crear el juego mas realista posible con las físicas muy bien hechas, y la conducción puede ser complicada, pero esta hecho por la razon del realismo y parece perfecto. El multi es lo que tiene que ser un multi de GTA, sin micro pagos y solo tu y tus amigos haciendo el imbécil por la ciudad.

The series always stood for beautiful open worlds, badass stories, exaggerated action, well written characters and a sheer freedom of playing. GTA IV satisfies all of these characteristics with brilliance. There`s nothing better than driving the dark streets of LibertyAs a GTA fan from the first hour it was very delightful to see the giant steps Rockstar Games takes with every release.     It's GTA with shiny new graphics, hilarious ragdoll physics (Crash your car at sixty miles per hour on the free way towards oncoming traffic; priceless), and a gripping new storyline filled with the usual GTA nutjobs and ingenious voice acting.
