A good game but should be developed with more time and innovations rather for PS4, as it adds nothing to GT5. Sound is terrible, graphics are good with some failures.

    + Very good racing physics
    + Nice graphics
+ Online is OK (for now)
+ A lot of cars and tracks
    + Quick loadings and menu

    - Very poor sounds
    - Too many "basic" models of cars
    - Veeery slow improvements in updates (developing not useful things such as car data acquisition, while everyone engine sounds like a vacuum)

What i don't like about this game: Career mode was a little bit boring, because i miss the old GT's when you got a car prize every event you completed. I missed these good old licenses too, i wanted more of that! The soundtrack (The menu and racing music) was not so good in this game like other GT's. The music gave you more an arcade-game feeling than a simulation game feeling... The weather and temperature on this game are totally misunderstandable, it stands for example it is a rainy day, but it is sunny when i am racing. There were too few night/weather change events, i wanted more of that. It is frustrating that almost every car sounds fake when gearing up. It sounds like i am gearing up a formula car when i'm driving a Mazda MX5 for example. Gran Turismo 4 sounded much more realistic with the transmission on a car.

Anyways i recommend this game, it is really fun!

I love the vehicle tuning aspects of the game. It can make the difference in winning or losing but you don't need to be a gear head to understand it. The multiplayer is not that great, I've had trouble connecting at times and its just not set up user friendly. There is a multiplayer quick race mode with preset races for quick race's, they were fun but again hard to connect sometimes. I do wish the graphics were better, there decent, sometimes beautiful but the load times can be little long. If you like racing, love cars and enjoy the sim aspect of racing give this game a try, I put over 100 hrs into it and am I think at 50% complete... Expand

Best racing game of its generation, and easily one of the best racing sims of all time.

Great and fun carreer mode, amazing graphics for the ps3, runs at 1440x1080p and between 45-60fps on the PS3, that on itself is an amazing achievement.

Unfortunately one of its major flaws is the AI, which is literally brain dead and acts like a brick pulling 500bhp.

Good game, but lacks good AI.

The newer tracks are definitely the highlight of GT6 so far. The selection of cars is as massive as ever, but while some of the cars look fantastic, there's still too many cars that look like they're left over from the PS2 days. The handling and driving physics are the best they've ever been; cars handle and control like their real world counterparts. People complain about starting with a crappy car and few credits and working your way up to better cars, but that's what GT has always been about, so people who don't like this should be playing arcade racing games, not sim racing games. The menu system is much easier and simpler to navigate than GT5, not GT5's menu system was that complex.

The problems that GT6 has are the same that have plagued it for 15 years now. The driver AI, while better than before, is still pretty dumb as cars drive in a straight line like robots. There's still limited car damage. There are far too many useless cars in the game. And some of the older tracks need a facelift. While the game is still loads of fun, it feels like the same old stuff over and over again. Polyphony needs to innovate more with GT, cuz games like Forza have caught up and even surpassed GT in some respects.

Gran Turismo is easily the best racing series on consoles, however GT6 is a definite step down from GT5. Things start off positively enough with over 1200 cars (a larger percentage are recycled from Gran Turismo 5, which is fine), far snappier load times (a drag on GT5, let me tell ya), quicker car changes in the garage and even an easier, almost mobile-like layout. Things start off positively enough with over 1200 cars (a larger percentage are recycled from Gran Turismo 5, which is fine), far snappier load times (a drag on GT5, let me tell ya), quicker car changes in the garage and even an easier, almost mobile-like layout. The controls are what you would expect from a Gran Turismo title, namely top notch, tight and no surprises. Throw in the amazing tuning options, and you really can tweak out any car to your liking (here's to you Escudo Pikes Peak).
The differences between GT5 and GT6 range from silly to irksome. While licenses were a sideshow in GT5, they have once again become requisite to pass to move on to the higher ranked races. Seriously, if I just blazed through the Gran Turismo All Stars Championship, must I now go prove that I can corner and corner some more over and over again? Removed from GT6 is the B Driver series of races. While this may come as a welcome change to some, the ability to have my B Driver on auto pilot, and have him win overnight races for me was a sure way to build up cash. In GT6, it's back to the cash grind, however, you can now by credits directly from the PlayStation Store with real money. And frankly I disagree with it costing upwards of $150 to buy a 20-million credit car (of which there were a handful in GT5, namely the Red Bull car). Finally, it seems like less of a focus on racing, and more gimmicky things. Purists aside, the pull of Gran Turismo was to be able to tune your car to mammoth proportions, and use raw power to win more challenging races against sharper AI. In GT6, all races have a PP cap, so it is possible to out-tune the competition, but it is limited. And while I don't want the game to be flat out easy, I do think that the PP limitations are better served in Online and Seasonal Events...like GT5.

Final Rundown: Despite the too much grind, too much gimmick, GT6 is an expected addition to the best racing series around. However, it is a measurable step down from GT5. I certainly wouldn't advise spending the full $60 on the game (which I did), but I would gladly go purchase GT5: XL Edition for its now $20 new price tag.

It is an incremental improvement over prior versions, so GT fans need not fear too much, this is still the GT you grew up with. A huge selection of cars and tracks is sure to keep car fans busy for a while. The driving physics seem close, though the grip modelling doesn't quite feel perfect to me. The driving lines are good enough looking and adjust reasonably to changes in car speed.

The user interface is great, you can tell they put some work into it, and the on screen HUD during races is very informative while staying out of the way and letting you focus on the track as well. The fonts are all very readable at a glance with good shadowing and contrast, I find myself liking the look of the RPM meter in 3rd person despite it being horizontal. I find 3rd person a lot easier to drive in and get better track awareness so I can't really comment much about the 1st person interface. Also, speaking about 3rd person, there is unfortunately no way to get the 360 degree free rotation out of the right stick, which really should be allowed in my opinion.

The most disappointing thing so far is the lack of an actual simulation damage model. They will let the car look bashed up if you want, but it's only a visual, cars will drive the same after very aggressive driving compared with not. So don't worry, you won't be held accountable for driving people off the road every chance you get. I think this is one feature that really should have been considered for this title, at least for the player to optionally decide to use. Although we also don't see a rewind feature being added either, which is the thing that makes simulation damage not so frustrating to have on.

Another flaw which many have mentioned is the engine noise, and I find myself questioning this as well. They just don't really sound quite like real cars. It does distract a bit from the whole immersion experience to hear something which might be a toy car driving down the road. Maybe cranking up the bass would help a little in this case, but shouldn't be necessary, the cars should just sound right with balanced settings.

The loading times are impressive actually, I think this is the fastest loading racing game I've played. I do have an SSD installed in my PS3, which could account for some of the speed up in loading, so it might not really be a software issue either way. The frame rate is totally solid, I don't ever observe any drops in performance, it's completely smooth through every race, which is basically a must have for any game like this anyway. The car models are alright and rendering is pretty good, though it does feel like they could have pushed things a little higher in the graphic fidelity.

On the default setting, the AI is not too offensive, it will make some technical errors and create passing opportunities even for similarly performing cars. The AI setting can optionally be tweaked to be more aggressive

Overall the feel I get from this racing simulator is one to really kick back with, relax, and enjoy some Motorsport just for the fun of it. It might not meet all my simulation top criteria, but the experience of driving in this game is unique and enjoyable.

Better UI, far more polished standard models and a more linear career mode that brings back the classic licence tests in a briefer form are amongst the most notable changes. To the majority who played GT4 this briefness is probably a good thing as they did tend to drag on but were sorely missed in GT5. The main gripes with this game are those which have dogged all GT games. First and foremost is the lack of meaningful damage, crash into a wall at 400km/h and just pop it in reverse gear and your off again without consequence. For a game that claims to be the real driving simulator bad driving should be punished. Secondly, the cars still sound soulless and dreary, jump into a Pagani Zonda or a Lamborghini Murcielago and they sound muted and lack the visceral, or even unique characteristics the real cars so obviously have.

It should be noted that the GT series is almost peerless in console gaming when it comes to updates. On the board for just GT6 is a new track creator that utilises GPS data to recreate tracks elevation and scale. IF this eventuates then the score for the game is certainly 8. If the gripes mentioned above were coupled with this update then we would have the perfect console racing simulator.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gran Turismo 6 is a great driving simulator. However, it isn't a great game. Depending on what you want to get out of the game, you'll either really enjoy it or get really bored. Personally I love doing time trials, so I've managed to get a lot out of GT6, but I really didn't enjoy the career mode. The races are too easy, even with a car significantly below the performance point limit for each race. Rolling starts in all but kart races really spoil the competitive aspect of the game as AI opponents are significantly worse than yourself (unless you're a terrible driver!).

The handling characteristics are unlike any other racing game I've played. The realism is definitely there, and the way the cars lean into corners and shift their weight during acceleration looks and feels great. In the cockpit view it feels like you're really driving the real life version of the in-game car. It's such a shame then that there are still about 700-800 'standard' cars still in the game - cars that I have no intention of driving as it detracts from the overall experience. A lot of these 'standard' cars are duplicate cars - for each 'standard' MX-5 there is also a Eunos and Miata variant, these are essentially the same cars duplicated three times. This also happens with the Vauxhall Corsa Comfort as the Opel version is exactly the same. The point I'm making is I'd rather see just the premium cars in the game. The space taken up by the 800 standard cars could have given way for an extra fifty premium models.

The Seasonal Events are generally better than in GT5, and are more like Rivals mode in Forza Motorsport. However, there are two or three events that require a 15th Anniversary car, which means everybody with the regular edition of the game cannot participate in these events. This annoyed me, as I like to complete every event just for personal gratification. The online lobby is a huge improvement, kudos to Polyphony for making GT6 enjoyable to play over the interweb.

By far and away the most disappointing aspect of this game though is the fact it didn't come out on PS4. This game could have fulfilled its potential by being released on the right console. As it goes, loading times are too long and some tracks look PS2-esque. On the PS4 and with no ported-from-PS2 car models, the game could have been a genuine contender to Forza Motorsport 5, and it would almost certainly have resulted in better sales figures.

As a game then, GT6 is bang average. Only the amazing driving physics and the competitive nature of the Seasonal Events make this same somewhat decent.

Apart from taking the game seriously - it really needs a simple side too. Gamers should be able to sign on and race as quickly as COD online. Expand

Gran Turismo 6 is a complicated time sink with some cool cars inside. Its not finished, its difficult to install, missing damage, and needs a better track maker. Sometimes the graphics are bad. The gameplay is not an even challenge. Other than that its still Gran Turismo.

The updates are so huge, the Playstation 3 chokes on them and fails. Put a brand new game in and it does not work.

Polyphony Digital doesn't have a system to manage its own updates without an online tutorial written in a forum. It took 2 full days to install the game; UNACCEPTABLE. Some people may run into more problems than others.

    If You Get It Running:

This game is more focused on hyper-cars than any other. The insane top speeds are kind of fun and kind of fake. Cars outpace each other wildly in PP which causes a high learning curve. Its impossible to know which car is the best to pick. There no monster trucks or American classic racing. No 80s stock cars or sprint cars.

The reward system is skewed toward longer races. Trophy cars aren't awarded well because some races are too hard with almost no reward. The actual challenges aren't worth anyone's time because of the CR prizes are so small compared to Seasonal Events and Online Play. The difference in prices between the cars doesn't seem to have much logic.

Online: The Quick Match will often kick you out of the server. The online rules penalize you unfairly almost every time I race. If you happen to be turning in, and someone hits you behind, you get the penalty. If too many wheels fall out of the course, you get a penalty. Thankfully not all online races are this way. The Open Lobbies are sometimes fun, sometimes terrible. One time a user on the annoying mic, just started cursing out users who entered their room with the wrong car. People constantly criticize you if you are running a car they don't like, even if they didn't put a room filter on it. Most of the user tracks I played are ridiculous (hill climbs) or un-drivable. The Nascar tracks are really fun though.

Drift modes: This game doesn't drift well. You have to spend too much time getting your car set up perfectly.

Other things wrong with the game; The AI is not great. They sometimes ram you and never seem to coast through turns. You must redo the licensing again. You have to complete 20 races before going online. No drag strip? None. No tuning cars while driving. No drawing on cars. No real damage. Needs courtesy cars online.

The graphics are a shame. Some cars look like PS2. Some cars have a premium dashboard, but then I look back, and the rear view is not modeled! Silly.

The music and sound are another low point, with bad engine sounds and terrible music selection. The music is so terrible. Whatever happened to real artists, like Garbage? Or classical music.

There are some good things. They fixed the terrible menus and load times from GT 4 & 5. Its got a lot of unique content & cars that are in no other game.

There are a lot of sim racers now. I'm still waiting for what they promised in Gran Turismo 4: More Pontiacs, & damage models. Worth buying for cheap if you have a PS3, but I won't be completing the disc because of overall gameplay. They added more cars to the game, fixed the menus, but did not increase overall game quality. Its a stressful game to play when you don't have the exact right car to run online and its just unbalanced as an offline game. You are better off quitting the game early. This will take hours of time and I didn't find it as fun as previous racers that exist.

This game can get kind of addictive, but it has so many problems its sad. Its no wonder nobody can fully recommend the game.

i have yet to try the game w/ my G27, but i hope they fixed the degrees of rotation and steering lock when passing the wheel through centre.
it just feels really, really stale... and is gonna feel even more stale if it ever comes out on PS4. its time for PD/kaz to stop resting on their laurels and actually reinvent this franchise before it falls victim to more self-important marketers.

Now for the things that in my opinion SUCK:
The miserly amount of credits for winning races, the frankly horrendous UI looks like a frikkin iPhone app, there is no more "Community" or visible "Friends" list, the re-introduction of licences to progress they were tedious & boring in earlier versions & they're no different now just same old, same old & there's still the same problem with the sound of the cars, not with the engine sound as such that everyone seems to be about but the fact that whenever you go near another car your engine sound disappears completely. Add to this the little things like getting taken to a replay of your race by default & the fact that you can no longer turn the annoying suggested gear notification off in the game options.

Basically all I've got for my £59.99 are the 2 tracks that should have been in the game from the get go, NFS Shift 2 Unleashed on either Xbox 360 or PC is as equally good as "ANY" of the Gran Tourismo series & it's been out ages & is "STILL" as good as GT6 but that's just my opinion......

I have been playing Gran Turismo since GT2, and this has been the biggest disappointment I have had. I loved every other rendition of the series but this fell flat for me. I don't know if it is that I have been pampered with Forza but I see no advancement in this game whatsoever, and feel more like this is a slide back for Polyphony, I have played these tracks before, and see little or no improvement from GT5, if not even from GT4. The graphics are on par with what I received from Forza 1, but that was almost 10 years ago. It is really depressing because I really want to like this game. It was the GT series that brought me into racing games. I spent my time recovering from heart surgery playing GT5 non-stop. What is sad is that I constantly have the urge to just jump over to Forza 5 (which was the sole reason I bought an X-Box one for) even though it is very limited in cars and tracks.

I will not compare this game to Forza 5 though. They are completely different generations, but Forza 4 is not. GT6 does not feel like a true racing sim anymore. I have gotten use to the level of detail that turn 10 puts into the behavior of the cars, their responsiveness, and the level of skill required to truly master driving them. Each car handles completely different and you need to get used to it, but GT6 does not. What is the use of having thousands of cars if they all feel the same. I also find myself falling back into old lazy driving habits in GT6 due to little or no consequences for dirty driving. Hit a car, it is alright, your car still performs correctly.

As for the courses. These feel like the same ones I have been playing since GT4 with the same feel and environments surrounding them. I don't find myself amazed at the views like I do when I am racing on Forza 4 at times, because there is no sense that I am looking at the real view I would get if I was on this racetrack. As for environment, I am still up in the air.

I am still excited about some of the prospects of GT6, especially with the upcoming gps tracking ability that will allow me to drive around town and create race courses with it, but I would have thought that GT6 would have been better than this.

It's really only saved by the sheer volume of content that it provides and the fact that there's no serious competition on the same console. It never feels competitive. What ruined it for me was the online challenges. I barely got my novice licence when I completed a few challenges and got millions of credits. That took away all the fun of the fighting for the small upgrade that will allow you to get to the next race up. Again GT2 had a great balance but GT6 is very poor. Last but not least the cars don't sound right. If this was a super NES I would forgive it but it isn't and I cant. Someone said GT6 cars sound like vacuum cleaners and they are not far off the mark. Forza is ahead here but all genres could improve in this area.

Overall disappointing but consistent, could do a lot better with fresh blood. If you own 5 then don't waste your money on 6 just for slightly better handling cars.

I'm sorry but this game is plain inadequate. The worst thing about GT6 is the sound: a lot of cars share the same generic engine noises and most of the time they sound like hairdryers and lawnmawners. Ford GT sounds absolute shiet. I spent like a month and a half on this game, I'm not saying it's bad or anything... it's just that there are so many better racing games out there...

Worth noting that track editor is not in-game and doesn't work anymore due to offline servers, making credits is also a total grind and PD clearly introduced micro transactions for a reason. Same old vacuum cleaner car sounds for most cars despite several updates that total above 10gb.

Micro transactions kill this latest entry into the genre dead and with such slow progression in the career you can see how they want to milk you for more than the premium cost of this game. On a positive note the circuits I have seen are fantastic, shame it sounds like you are driving a toy car around them.

I made this review after playing more than thirthy hours. Some things have been improved, others have turned out to be worse. Things that have been improved are graphics in overall, there is a new UI (not per se better than before) and the handling of the cars feels better with a steering wheel with gas/acceleration pedals. There some new things, such as Vision GT, in which real car manufacturers design concept cars which you can drive in the game. There some new events, such driving on the moon, coffee breaks and the Goodwood Festival of Speed. There a lot more tracks and older ones are looking better. There are 1200 cars, but only 300-400 are detailed and you there are like 30 Mazda Miata's with little to no difference in between them. But this compensated by the fact you have a few more options of changing the exterior of a car. There a quite lot of things which are worse than before. You can buy credits with real cash, but you need like 150 euro's to buy one car which cost 20 million credits, if you buy 7million credits for 50 euro's. Otherwise, its much more expensive. B-Spec, in which you are team manager leading a race with driver AI's, has been removed. Although the feature wasn't fantastic, it offered variation and way to earn credits while doing something else. The online events are now only drifting events and time attacks and the reward in credits have been severely reduced, probably to persuade you to buy credits with real credits. The carreer mode is quite blant, most races you have a rolling start and you must drive from the back of the pack to pole position within 2-5 laps, with only a few night races, fewer rally events and some coffee breaks. There are also some issues which shouldn't be in a racing game / driving simulator, such as: The AI drivers are too easy and there is no way to increase difficulty, expect by choosing a car which performs worse. You can be much faster than the AI in the same car. The headlights and tail lights don't function well in while driving in the dark, you can barely see the road ahead, and the rear of the cars are dark while driving 0-10m behind them. Headlights of the car behind you are barely visible. Crashing does not affect the performance of your car, you only lose some time. The cars don't sound like real cars or like the car in real life. They are also quite awful to listen at and sometimes you can't hear when you need to change gear. In cockpit view, you are sometimes blinded by the sun and forced to change your viewing point. Some interiors, especially of some new cars, are a lot darker than they should be. In overall, this game gets 4 from me and I recommend you to buy it when it's cheap, or when they release a version with all dlc added to it, but that should take a some time. Expand

Also, previously pre-order only cars from GT5 are also here. The garage now includes a stockyard for cars you don't intend to use, so it's easier to avoid changing into a car you keep as a collector's item. Customisation is slightly enhanced; you can buy racing brakes and skip stages in engine tuning and weight reduction, among others. There's a greater selection of rims and aerodynamic parts, if you choose to alter the look of your ride. You can buy any of the cars from the new dealership in any colour available with no mileage, meaning you don't have to wait hundreds of in-game days for one you need in the used car lot (Though, retaining the used car lot may have been useful in obtaining a car cheaper, but with previous mileage). Some of the cars are also cheaper than in 5. There is now visible statistic tracking (If there were any in 5, I never found them). Paint chips have returned but are now infinite-use; you just need to pay use them. If this is your kind of thing, you can also buy racing suits and helmets to customise your driver. Loads times are significantly shorter and your cursor freezing while it loads is almost gone. You can choose what colour you get whenever you win a car. Leveling up is gone completely; now you just have to complete races to advance in career mode. Better than 5 overall.
Neutral aspects your mileage may vary: Downforce no longer affects Performance Points (PP). There is now nitro injection you can install to boost acceleration, though mostly not needed. Microtransactions are in effect, but they are unneeded if you play the game often; they're only for buying credits.
Mildly annoying aspects: Remember how after winning each group if races, get get a reward car? Well, now it's reduced to getting one whenever you finish half or one of the sections (b, a, ib, etc.). They don't even tell you what reward to expect, aside from credits. Paint chips are harder to come by; you don't get any with the login bonus anymore. The "default" button on some of the tuning parts is gone completely, meaning if you messed up a tune, you can't reset it. They only tell you three of the "typical opponents" in each race, giving you less of an idea what to expect. They don't even tell you what PP they're set at, but instead the make (because THAT'S useful information)! Credit rewards in career mode still low; the cars they make you buy (plus any tuning) often cost more than what you win in total for the specific races you use them in. Tuning parts have increased in price. All this designed probably to encourage aforementioned microtransactions. Whereas in Gran Turismo 5 had everything available (to view) from the beginning (albeit unlocked), here, you must pass licence tests to unlock new races and modes. Also, more tire screeches can get tiresome. They tell you what car to buy first.
Terrible aspects that should revoke your programming licence: You're not allowed to view or tune a car you are not currently using, meaning that in order to even look at one of your cars, you must change it to be your current one. Your headlights are as useful as a candle. On some tracks they work nicely, but on others, the fact that they're on changes visibility by zero. NASCAR and kart races should NOT have been in this game. At all. The primary problem with these is that you must use a car on equal power to your opponents, which is fine. But that means since you start at the rear of the pack, it's too hard to catch up and maintain the lead with the limited laps given. Also, PP and tire limits in career races? With a 70% power limit in NASCAR. Why!?
My top three grievances (in no particular order): 1) The times you are expected to finish in the time trials are ridiculous. The earlier ones are pretty lenient, but there are some that are impossible unless you do everything pixel perfectly. This is exacerbated by the mission races that have opponents on the track that do nothing but serve as obstacles on the narrowest parts of the road. 2) The AI They cheat. A lot. They almost never spin out, but they can use the PIT manouevre on you all they want, which is extremely prevalent in NASCAR races. If you rear-end them, you get a penalty (disqualified in time trials or reduced speed in S races). But they rear-end you? YOU spin out and THEY go on their merry way. Or YOU get a penalty for THEIR crummy driving. Or both. Also, why are there shortcut penalties in career? In online games, I understand, but who the hell cares if a shortcut is taken against cheating AIs!? 3) The physics Pressing left on my control stick should NOT make the car go right and vice versa (no, it's not a problem with my controller). Or straight. Cars 100 cm tall should NOT flip over when they hit bump on the road 2.5 cm high. Cars should NOT be magnetically attracted to grass/dirt and walls.

The car sounds, are Depressing. the chevy corvette sounds so uninspiring that it literally made me regret buying the C6R as good as it is. I am constantly rolling my eyes when I buy a new car, because it sounds like the last car with a Very tiny twist.

There are these icon cars for 20,000,000 credits that poly must think people are going to spend honest money to own. Who are they kidding?

Yes as always... there's some new tracks.
Yes there's more hi def cars (I guess. Having to sort through 10 skylines that I would find preferable with their respective PP values, I find myself owning the ONE skyline because it doesn't look like **** for example. sooo...)

But there's no more used cars either!

The PP Ratings for races are always stupid high, resulting in 450-600 horsepower cars and nearly limitless viciousness to GT's AI speedup/slowdown technique of trying to manage difficulty. (Which is terrible in and of itself, as far as I am concerned, but that comes later.)

There should be beater series races with 400 max PP and comfort hard tires at the short courses! THIS is the sunday/clubman, not this, realize I can run this 250 horsepower hot hatch PD just HAPPENED TO HAVE GIVEN ME for getting all golds, which is eye rollingly easy compared with say, GT3/4 in the low pp series against cars that are just marginally faster than Kei cars.

There are no more grid starts! officially, what gives! and it's not even a rolling start. it's an arcade start with just running down AI crippled cars until just after you pass them!

online play is so very sparse. You can't ever seem to really find what you're after, in my case. I guess I should be snooping forums for series, instead of using the GT's engine. But it's just disapointing.

The physics are improved, but it's still not on par with Forza's techniques. the rubber-band effect of steering a slide is awful, and just uncatchable. It's frustrating, It's not enjoyable, and it doesn't lend realism or credibility to the "sim".

That being said, I like seeing the stance of the car change with every suspension move I make in setup, I like the new paintbooth setup A LOT.

GT Needs a legitimate tire simulation. One needs only look at the ten year old Live For Speed project in youtube, to see what I mean. real simulation of tire deformation, load, heating inside middle and outside, and it all affects how it grips and deforms visually and physics wise. Bonus points for watching slow motion vids. you will understand after that.

I like how quickly it loads, I really like the large grids, but we need MUCH closer starts, and tighter rules/regs.

It just feels like a cash grab more than an iteration of the series, and it's disapointing from that standpoint. I want my track generator, advanced grid starts from multi, in single player, furthermore I want qualifying rounds from the original gran turismos to make a comeback. Honestly. If one wants to market something as simulation, take it on. as it is, it's still a poser.

Just received Gran Turismo 6. So far am very disappointed.
Graphically identical to GT5, and still tons of non-premium graphic cars.
No 3D support despite GT5 having 3D support...
Chucked straight into races with no ability to change controls, so stuck using X instead of trigger to accelerate...

    Really regretting buying this.

Poll after poll shows that the most popular (and in this reviewer's opinion, most fun) game of the Gran Turismo series was GT4, which came out at the end of 2004; since then the game's graphics have been improved (though not enough to keep up with the industry leaders) but Polyphony Digital has managed to suck almost all of the enjoyment out of playing the game.

Specifically what's wrong? I'm not talking about the issues the series has always had, such as the designers' frustrating (to non-Japanese players) obsession with Japanese cars, which still make up a disproportionate number of those available (though the balance has improved greatly and the selection really isn't too bad any more). Nor do I mean the oft-talked-about "standard" cars, those whose graphics models haven't been updated since the PS2 days and that therefore look primitive (and lack interior views completely). The former issue is something every Gran Turismo fan has learned to live with; the latter isn't really a problem considering how many premium cars (i.e., those whose graphics are reasonably in keeping with the hardware) there are.

No, what brings me to type this review isn't so much the stuff that PD has never gotten right, it's the things they had done well and that have now gotten worse. The most obvious of these is the events and features that are missing completely. Did you enjoy rally events in GT4 or 5? Too bad — they're completely gone. (But the shop still sells dirt tires...) Did you like the endurance races? They're gone too. Did you enjoy getting prize cars after winning a series or a long endurance race? Those have been largely eliminated, unless you want to play online (a feature that I am not commenting extensively on, as it isn't available to everyone as part of the game itself, but I'll note in passing that nearly every aficionado of online play finds PD's system nearly unusable...). And the simple interface of GT4, with everything in view at once? Gone, replaced by an ugly set of menus that aren't so much nonfunctional as... well, just bad.

Oh, there's one thing that they've added (back), after it disappeared with GT5: license tests. Yes, no matter how many racing games (including Gran Turismo) you've played, GT thinks that you shouldn't be allowed to race a fast car until you've shown, repeatedly, that you know how to find a braking point, an apex, and so on. I've never met anyone who thinks the license tests are in any way a positive addition to the game, but Kaz (Kazunori Yamauchi, the game's lead designer) is obsessed with the technical aspects of racing, so licenses are back, whether you (or anyone else) likes them or not.

Ah, but the racing — that's where it's at, right? GT has always been the premier racing game, so there's where it should shine... except this is actually where it falls flattest. For one thing, most of your early forays into racing will be in dull, slow cars — from the beginning you are forced to race PD's idea of what is best for a brand new driver (whether you are one or not). I guess there are joys to be had racing 80 horsepower front-drive econoboxes... and you'll get to experience them, a lot, of you want to graduate to anything faster. Woo hoo.

Once you're actually racing something worthwhile, the disappointments will become even more acute. I didn't think it was possible for an AI to be worse that that of previous GT games, but PD managed it — the opposing cars drive on rails, rubberband at times, and commit random inexplicable errors that mean that any competent driver should blow them a way in a "fair" race. Except that qualifying is also gone, so that race starts with you far behind the leaders. Oh, and be careful as you pass everyone (as you will if you don't completely stink at this), because they also like to knock you off the track without warning, even on straightaways.

So much else is missing too. There's no car damage (well, technically there are minor visual indications of damage, but they have no effect on the driving). Nothing to keep you from wall-riding and cutting corners. No rewinding. No trading cars among users. Ridiculous restrictions on what color you can paint your cars. Sounds that, without exception as far as I can tell, do not at all resemble those of the cars in question. Questionable tuning dynamics. And on and on.

We're told, repeatedly, that many of these issues will be fixed in updates that are coming "soon". Well, even if they were coming tomorrow this review is of the game that you can buy today, and that game stinks. Further, GT6 has been out a year and almost no significant flaw has been rectified; none of us is holding his breath.

Gran Turismo was once both a fine simulator and a fun game. It's no longer either.

The game developers can not justify making us wait 6 hours to play there game after putting it into the system.
The developers treat this game as if its a PC game where they can through out massive 2gb+ patches into the game. Current gen consoles are not designed for this. 100mb- patches should be the max per update for this system.

So I have not played the game therefore cannot review that game, just my personal experiences.

We were left hanging for the full release of GT with the prologue release keeping us hooked and the wait was worthwhile. I never left my racing seat for month when it came out.
