On the whole, I found last year’s F1 to be enjoyably inoffensive, which is why F1 2014 is such a pleasant surprise. It makes for a great series swansong on PS3 (or, at least, I assume F1 will make the generational leap next year), and is just about the pinnacle of visual presentation for a racer on these tired old gaming boxes we’re still keeping around.

Be sure to pick up F1 2014 if you’re a lapsed fan of the franchise. It does everything right and eliminates the clutter that has hurt past entries in the series.

While we wait for a next-gen F1 game, we can still enjoy an all-round game that puts you into the suit of one of the world's championship drivers. Fans and pro gamers of the genre will most likely enjoy the wide variety of options the game offers, in order to bring an experience as real as possible.

After a great episode last year, we have a good game that doesn't evolve that much. Still, it provides a very solid simulation, and F1 fans will definitely enjoy it.

Very similar to what we've been playing the last few years, F1 2014 is a game that needs a generation leap sooner than later.

F1 2014 repeats the same formula, without any great changes but with the necessary improvements that every fan of F1 needs.

F1 2014 feels like a step back when compared to the previous game in the franchise, especially since the classic mode has been left out this time around. It's still a fine racing game, but fans might want to wait for the next one.

F1 2014 is a real disappointment, as it changes absolutely nothing from the previous episode and even takes off the Classic mode. You'll feel betrayed, probably.

Codemasters gets a yellow flag. F1 requires concentration, not to give up, and this videogame is exactly the opposite. No innovation and no new modes for a title that is only suitable for new pilots.

New cars are fun to drive and it's as accessible as ever, but F1 2014 has largely failed to evolve beyond past games in the series.

Some moderate updates to the gameplay (primarily with the new rules and roster changes), but if you're on any kind of budget or aren't in a rush to play, it's probably best to wait for next year when the series shifts to the current-gen.

I just hope that F1 2015 has an engine for the new generation of consoles and puts the series back on track.

So who is F1 2014 aimed at exactly? Well, with a 'very easy' difficulty setting, more forgiving handling (unless you turn assists off) and shorter, customised race weekends, F1 2014 is probably the most accessible iteration yet.

Even as downloadable content this would seem exploitative, but trying to pass it off as a new game is only a formula for disappointment and resentment.

The quintessential "barely trying" annual sports entry. [Christmas 2014, p.95]

The power unit mechanic offers too little an incentive to re-buy what is essentially a lesser F1 2013. [Christmas 2014, p80]

This is one game definitely made for the die-hard F1 fans who have a bigger passion for racing, than perhaps for gaming.

Simply put, there is very little to recommend in this year’s game. With fewer modes than F1 2013, and with next year’s big update mere months away, this entry finds itself very much stuck on the grid.

F1 2014 is everything people hate about annualized sports games. Not just a carbon copy of the 2013 model, but also a game that fails to capitalize on some of the biggest changes the sport has ever seen. Worst of all, many of the franchise's best features have been removed. It's clear this was an afterthought as the developers worked on the truth next-generation sequel.

You're left with same graphics, less content and same old game you had before. 2014 teams & drivers update are not worth of a completely new game (which isn't new to be fair). Should've been a cheap DLC for 2013 game. Full Review »
