Even after playing for dozens of hours, you'll still find new things in Dead Rising 2. I won't spoil anything, but there's a lot of variety to be found in the game beyond obvious things like the number of objects that can be used as bludgeons. This game is designed for multiple playthroughs, and I'm looking forward to each and every one of them.

Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaOct 25, 2010Dead Rising 2 is what you wanted it to be, but it unfortunately suffers on a technical level with too many loading screens and bogus screen tearing. Despite these minor setbacks this is one of 2010's best games. [November 2010 p77]

A shotgun barrel of fun. There really is so much to do and so little time to do it. You'll hardly ever get bored of running around torturing zombies with all manners of sadistic, man-made equipment.
-
Horror, comedy and action. Dead Rising 2 is a balanced game - a funny and compelling "zombie Killer".
-
This is what gaming should be about sometimes, a mindless and fun destructive experience as you dispatch zombie after zombie.
-
Jan 11, 2011The thing about the Dead Rising series is that it's pretty unique. Killing hordes of zombies with a huge variety of improvised weaponry isn't a genre present anywhere else. It's a great game to just mess around in, picking up random clothing, smashing zombie heads in and fighting away psychopaths.
-
The Dead Rising formula proves to be as addictive as ever, and a new cooperative mode and weapon crafting system are great additions to the franchise.
-
Dead Rising 2 is impressive with its carefully crafted plot, new features, and increased scale, making it an interesting option to the rest of the zombie killing games on the market.
-
A great sequel to a very unique and entertaining series.
-
Between the solid story, entertaining gameplay and huge replay value, Dead Rising 2 offers more bang for your buck than just about any single-player game on the market right now.
-
Dead Rising 2 offers the same game experiences provided by its predecessor, improving the overall quality. A must for all the zombie lovers.
-
Dead Rising 2's biggest strength lies in its variety of both story and side missions. There is never a shortage of things to do in the game, and the co-op ability makes this a trip you can take several times with friends.
-
The previous game was pretty hard and really funny; this is the same case with Dead Rising 2. The gameplay is completely focused on the many ways to kill the zombies and that is simply cool. If you like the franchise, just get this one, you won't be disappointed.
-
Ultimately, sure, Dead Rising 2 has annoying technical flaws and uninteresting boss battles. But the ability to jump into a friend's game while wearing a Borat-inspired mankini and a Servbot helmet with a lawnmower blade strapped on top help you quickly forget those problems.
-
With multiple playthroughs in mind, Dead Rising 2 may provide all the gaming you need this holiday season. There's no way you'll be able to do everything in one shot. Going back to Fortune City with a better grasp of the map is only going to make things more enjoyable. Kill, Chuck, kill!
-
Every aspect about the original has certainly been improved this time out, besides the Psychopath encounters, so it's definitely worth checking out.
-
The real draw here, though, is a sandbox with an infinite supply of moaning army-men to destroy.
-
It works, entertains and reaches its objectives, but in future installments we'd like to see new elements in the formula.
-
Dead Rising 2 is like its predecessor with a lot of new features. Fans of the first game will like the second quite a bit and can consider it a must have.
-
Jan 13, 2011Dead Rising 2 is everything the first game should have been. Even though the zombie motif may be overworn, the game hits a perfect blend of horror, gore, mystery and morbid humor – the essence of everything great about the zombie genre. Annoying and bad boss fights bring the final score down, but other than that, Dead Rising 2 gets almost everything right.

Oct 27, 2010Capcom fixed a few flaws from the first game, but left a lot of them intact the second time around. That doesn't mean it isn't still a blast to explore Fortune City, just don't expect too much here and you won't be disappointed.
-
Oct 25, 2010There are still some issues with hideously long loading times and certain impracticalities, particularly when putting survivors into the safe room, but the game design presents an oddly satisfying change from the norm that can be easy to love and hate at the same time.
-
For all my complaints, I've probably put forty hours or more into it, and that's the best endorsement I'm able to give.
-
While not a huge departure from the original Dead Rising template, Dead Rising 2's concession to friendlier game-saves and excellent addition of a creative and funny weapon-crafting system make it a rewarding and gleefully entertaining experience. But alas, the corpse-killing hijinks are noticeably marred by some inexcusable hark-backs to archaic game design. A lot of fun then, but with some definite frustrations.
-
Dead Rising 2 is extremely fun and at the same time very satisfying, but it is riddled with minor setbacks such as lackluster visuals and the exasperating save system.
-
Not a lot different to the first game, but co-op play and combo cards make zombie killing refreshingly entertaining.
-
Dead Rising 2 is a serviceable follow-up, and another unique addition to the ranks of zombie bashers. Its uniqueness is of the rough-and-ready variety, however, sparked by colliding clichés, and for all Fortune City's lashings of sugar, glitter and grey matter, many will find that unevenness hard to bear. Recommended, but watch your step.
-
Dead Rising 2 is at its best when you're goofing off, finding new combo weapons and exploring the Fortune City Strip - and that works so well that you're almost inclined to forgive it its faults, like irritating boss battles and a cumbersome save system.
-
Dead Rising 2 softens some sharp edges of the first chapter and introduces a fistful of new ideas. Despite some technical issues, this is a very good sequel for a very good series... good work Blue Castle!
-
Lots of zombies, black humour and amazing weapons. This is a splatter fest easy to recommend.
-
Dead Rising 2 is leaps and bounds better than the original but it still has its fair share of gameplay problems.
-
Dead Rising 2's replayability is a testament to the fully realized burg that is Fortune City. I want to meet more nutjob Psychopaths; I want to try more games of chance scattered around the casinos; I want to spend an afternoon shirking my in-game responsibilities to create new tools of destruction with my hard-earned Combo Cards.
-
It's not the smoothest game and it can feel like the last one, however that doesn't mean a thing when the game's this much fun. Using a car battery and a Street Fighter mask to electrocute the undead and a set of knives and a pair of boxing gloves to make Wolverine claws are all great times.
-
It's testimony to Inafune-san and Blue Castle that they weren't tempted to pander to a wider audience and continued with a setup that while frustrating is at least rewarding and satisfying in its difference.
-
By far, however, the greatest addition to the formula is the co-op multiplayer. Grab a friend online, and the two of you can slice, chop and smash your way through the hordes together, with plenty of missions to complete. The action is very entertaining with a second person keeping you company and you'll spend hours simply exploring and clearing out entire areas of zombies together.
-
The sequel to one of the most iconic Xbox 360 games does not disappoint. The boss fights may be terrible, but the rest of the game is gaming made fun, pure and simple. You won't have this much fun with dismemberment anywhere else.
-
With a little bit of tweaking, Dead Rising 2 could have been a little easier to control and I might have been able to save some of the helpless civilians, but overall I had a lot of fun in my 72 hour vacation in Fortune City. If you are looking for a game that has some decent replay value or simply loved the first game, then Dead Rising 2 is defiantly worth the money.
-
If you want to kill zombies there's nothing better in the market to satisfy your thirst.
-
By not changing too much from the original template Blue Castle Games have ensured that Dead Rising 2 will likely elicit as divisive a response as its predecessor. Which is fine because Dead Rising 2, a bundle of contradictions with a neat line in bespoke weaponry, isn't an easy game to love at all. Take the plunge though, and you'll find one of 2010's most singular, bloody-minded, and fascinating videogames.

Play UKGreat fun - when played for ten minutes and wading through zombies with a paddle-saw. When you play it properly, though, it falls apart. Frustrating, bloated and slightly stilted - it's fun, but not revolutionary. [Issue#197, p.88]
-
Jan 11, 2011Dead Rising fans - you know who you are - are going to love this game. If you still bust out your copy of the 2006 original, do yourself a favor and pick this up.
-
You should buy Dead Rising 2 if you enjoyed the first one and Case Zero as well. The addition of co-op is the best part of the game.
-
Edge MagazineDec 22, 2010Plenty of games can be as awkward or frustrating as Dead Rising 2, but none are as insanely, violently, engagingly bonkers. [Nov 2010, p.88]
-
Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)Oct 28, 2010Developer Blue Castle has done a solid job taking over from Capcom Japan, maker of the original Rising. [Dec 2010, p.74]
-
A challenging and at times flawed experience - one that serves up plenty of frustration along with the rampant good times. Because no matter how hard you try or how carefully you plan your outings, you're almost certain to hit some kind of wall.
-
A genuine improvement on the first game, although not without some obvious flaws - and the growing sensation that it's all shlock and no substance.
-
Quotation forthcoming.
-
This game wears its heart on its sleeve in terms of what it's all about and is entirely unapologetic in the pursuit of base humour and over the top violence. If you can live with the over-keen loading screens and the infuriating lack of sense from the survivors you attempt to rescue then you should enjoy it for many hours.
-
Dead Rising 2 is a sequel that tries so hard to appeal to fans of the original that the rest of the gaming world might not find the mass slaughter of zombies quite so appealing. We loved it from start to (stupid) finish, though the many reasons others might not are plain to see and completely understandable.
-
Dead Rising 2 doesn't really present anything new compared to the first game, other than the co-op and the ability to combine objects to create interesting weapons. The graphics are dated and the lack of variation in gameplay will bug a lot of players. There's still much fun to be had, thanks to the funny story, bizarre characters and millions of ways to slaughter the zombies.
-
The weapons and the kinds of weapons you can put together really make for some really kick ass kills. Additionally, there are some RPG-esque elements which I liked, as well. But what really killed it for me was the clunky and often unresponsive controls, in addition to the repetitive combat which could've used a lot more diversifying.
-
The solid foundation residually left over from the original and the new hybrid weapons system create a basically appealing package from which a decent amount of fun can be derived, but the lackluster presentation, uninspired story, outright broken multiplayer, and atrocious amount of glitches makes Dead Rising 2 less of a flawed gem and more of a somewhat polished pile that incrementally smells worse the longer you let it sit in your disc drive.
