  • Summary: Dead Rising 2 is set several years after the infamous zombie invasion of Willamette. Unfortunately, the zombie virus was not contained at the conclusion of Dead Rising, spreading unchecked throughout the United States and Dead Rising 2 depicts a country where zombie outbreaks continue to strike.

What was once an assembly of divergent systems is now a finely tuned machine, one that enables a man to combine a bull skull with motor oil and use it to liquidate scores of zombies. Dead Rising 2 brought focus and direction to an experience that used to be defined by chaos and disorder. Pandemonium isn't completely wiped out, but this time it works with, rather than against, the player's objectives.

DR2 is still surprisingly fun, even now. It's certainly flawed, but the core concepts are incredibly strong, and it's a game that encourages you to find your own way through it. There's a lot of room to explore and develop your own strategies, and unlike the original, it seems to understand that part of the fun is in letting you screw around a bit. In the first game, you had to deliberately let missions expire if you just wanted to go bomb around the mall; here, even if you're following the story, there are big windows of opportunity to do whatever you like. There's a much greater sense of freedom, which is part of the point of a game like this one.

I quite frankly enjoyed this game. The aspects that are supposed to make a remake a remake (like improving graphics or fixing bugs etc) areI quite frankly enjoyed this game. The aspects that are supposed to make a remake a remake (like improving graphics or fixing bugs etc) are not much to behold here. The graphics, if they were improved, it was very marginal. And they did nothing to fix to some of the other issues, like still no auto saves, which was the bane of my playing existence in the first game. However this is still a great game and, for the price of 20 dollars, it's a steal in my opinion. Dead Rising 2 fixed alot of the problems from the first game like improved A.I. and added the crafting system that would become a major component in the games to come. While the story may leave something to be desired and the main character is about as exciting as watching paint dry, there's still tons to do and see here that are super fun. But considering the entire package, mostly considering the price range, I'd easily recommend it to people. Just know that when they say remake here it means they just literally moved it to the current gen consoles. Expand
