For a game made by one guy in his bedroom over the summer, Beat Hazard Ultra is an interesting treat. The controls are tight, the weapons are unique and varied, and the novelty of using your own songs gives you an endless library of levels and enemy variety.

Beat Hazard Ultra is simply a nice, colorful and fun twin-stick shooter that every player into EDM or metal music shouldn't miss.

Basic, but executed to perfection. [Issue#213, p.97]

Each song is a different game and it trying to achieve the challenges is fun even when you fail. IGN's poor score is nothing but a shame. Thre reviewer did not even recognize that each song plays the same everytime (enemies, bosses appear exactly with the same pattern for each song, once you play a song and turn back to it, you see that the same waves and bosses come, which is the proof of the fact that "your music determines your gameplay") This game deserves a score no less than 8. It certainly deserves the money paid for it. Full Review »

The enchanting part that originally caught my attention was the ability to pick it up for three minuets and feel accomplished. This game is highly recommended to any true gamer on a schedule.
Now I understand that IGN can not give good ratings to games whose development is not directly placing them in the advertising budget. In the case of an indy game, getting a review from IGN @ 5 is comparable to getting a 10 from a reviewer that has been paid to write the review. Get this game, and have lots of fun. If you like music, and you like twin stick agility games, this game will provide total satisfaction.
