    Bayonetta is a over the top action game, and puts the emphasis in "over the top." The graphics feel like there is a foggy texture over everything and are out date. The Xbox 360 version is much better graphically, but nothing else is drastically different between the consoles. The loading times are also a drag, the game loads for everything. The gameplay makes up the whole game, and I am glad it is so good. The gameplay is innovative, just when you think it is getting stale it throws something new at you. The gameplay is at its best when the screen is filled with enemies and you have to take them all out. The bosses are also fun to fight as they tower over you. The story is sometimes a little too crazy and over the top, but it is original in a unique universe. In the first few minuets of Bayonetta you will see how crazy this game is. If you like the first few minuets, you will enjoy the rest of the game. If you do not like it, I would suggest another game.… Expand

    i thought this game was pretty good. i kinda new what i would be getting out of it before i even started to play. i was right for the most part it is a hack and slash game with a girl as the main character who is ment to tease the gamer with constant scences where she goes compleatly naked with only a black strip covering her body parts im not really into that but i know some people willi thought this game was pretty good. i kinda new what i would be getting out of it before i even started to play. i was right for the most part it is a hack and slash game with a girl as the main character who is ment to tease the gamer with constant scences where she goes compleatly naked with only a black strip covering her body parts im not really into that but i know some people will love this. this game is really easy to just start playing but to master all the techniques there are takes some skill and the fight sequences always look beutiful. that being said the story is also pretty good with great graphics and some pretty good voice acting to back it up, there is also a bit of comedy thrown in at some points so the game does not get stale. although the story is great there isnt much replay value to this game than just playing through it again which is unfourtunate but it is still worth a try and is a decent length so it is worth picking up especially since it is only 20$ now… Expand

    Still looks amazing 3+ years after its release. I was hooked from the opening 'fly me to the moon' sequence right through to the end credits. Just sit back and hammer the buttons randomly until your enemies are defeated. Just the sort of difficuly level I like on these type of 3rd person jumpy shooty fighting games.     El juego teoricamente es un Hack & Slash, pero al probarlo me doy cuenta que existen elementos que remiten bastante a Ninja Gaiden y secuencias estilo Final Fantasy con Devil May Cry, quiza se escuche bastante cheesy, y lo es, pero en eso radica la diversion del titulo, elementos que haran que en ocasiones digas WTF, como otras que digas LMFAO hahahah, bueno el titulo es divertido y valeEl juego teoricamente es un Hack & Slash, pero al probarlo me doy cuenta que existen elementos que remiten bastante a Ninja Gaiden y secuencias estilo Final Fantasy con Devil May Cry, quiza se escuche bastante cheesy, y lo es, pero en eso radica la diversion del titulo, elementos que haran que en ocasiones digas WTF, como otras que digas LMFAO hahahah, bueno el titulo es divertido y vale la pena comprarlo como de esos accesorios curiosos japoneses, muy japones… Expand

    So, had this game on my backlog for a while. I played it once when it came out, and for having DMC as my favorite video game franchise, you can guess that I enjoyed that first taste.

    But for whatever reasons that I'm not sure of, I never really finished it. So, yeah, after the the DmC release I got frustrated, saddened and angry for what was done to my favorite video game, and quickly    So, had this game on my backlog for a while. I played it once when it came out, and for having DMC as my favorite video game franchise, you can guess that I enjoyed that first taste.

    But for whatever reasons that I'm not sure of, I never really finished it. So, yeah, after the the DmC release I got frustrated, saddened and angry for what was done to my favorite video game, and quickly searched for a replacement.

    And boy oh boy am I happy that it did. It's everything that I was EXACTLY looking for. The story silliness is nothing but refreshing to all that grimdark 2edgy4me that took all over the marketplace. The soundtrack is amazing, I adore "Fly me to the moon" and kicking angels asses by the sound of it was interesting at the last. I felt pressured whenever the game embraced that "serious" tone some chapters, to suddenly feel my blood pumping with joy whenever FMTTM kicked in again.

    And who cares if she gets naked? Or if the game has tons of sexualization? Well, let me tell this; character sexualizations works for both ways. Just like, let's say, Dante. Who has the looks of a greek god himself. And who cares, when they just have this huge charisma that only make us glad to be on their skin? I had this big stupid smile plastered on my face through pretty much every cutscene. They were simply a joy to watch.

    I didn't even got started in the gameplay! It’s so fast paced that sometimes felt like a cutscene that I was in control! It has such a large variety of combos, when I hadn’t even unlocked all of the weapons. The fact that you can pretty much cancel all of the attacks just opens a huge door to our creativity regarding combos. And they’re not even easy to pull it off, when the enemies have this pretty smart AI who’d wait for our opening and shove THEIR OWN combos on us. I never really saw that in an hack’n slash, where the ENEMY would use a combination of attack on us whenever I’d let myself get caught, leading to the loss of 5/10 my health on NORMAL. And I loved that. I have this huge collection of stone awards, that I’m not even ashamed of!

    The PS3 version however has some frame rate issues, as well as an unnecessary loading screen time. I highly recommend you to install the game before starting, causing most of the problems to cease.

    If you're a fan of the hack'n slash game, or just want a fresh start this game is a MUST BUY.    … Expand

    That said, Platinum made an extremely stupid decision not caring how the PS3 version of this great games turned out.
    To be fair, Nex Entertainment were the team who ported this to PS3, but for Platinum and Sega to have allowed this to be released in the state that it was in is ridiculous.    First off this game is fantastic.....when played on an Xbox 360 (and soon also on Wii U).

    Enjoyable but not to my personal taste. Baffling story and eroticism with plain weird characters/enemies littered throughout the game. It's completely over the top, but sometimes those liberties are taken too far.

    great game sadly the loading times muck the game up i own both consoles and wish now i had bought the xbox 360 version never mind.

It's too bad since the dodge function adds a lot to the gameplay, and it is a reminder of how similar all the attack combos are in effect. But the 3d models and concept work stand out compared to other games, and the campaign is filled with creativity and original inspirations. The puzzles and mini-games deserve special mention, as they are of extraordinary quality for what is usually seen in action games. After completion on normal, a gallery of 3d models unlocked and I took a few minutes to study the work, which was impressive. Also, although I didn't like the main character much, the supporting characters were surprisingly memorable and entertaining to follow.… Expand

It is performed by dodging enemy attacks right before they connect. While in "Witch Time," time slows down and you are able to inflict more damage than usual.     Story:
    In Bayonetta, you play as the title character, who is an Umbran Witch. She has been awake for 20 years, but is unable to remember her past after a 500-year slumber. She has "one half of the eye" in her possession, a pendant that is vital to witches. Her informant, Enzo, learns that the other "half" is located somewhere in Europe. She arrives in the fictional city of Vigrid, where she fights many enemies, including the Cardinal Virtues. Bayonetta's story is decent, however, the presentation is horrendous. Every character, other than Bayonetta, has little to no character development. The cutscenes do not add to the game, but merely serve as a way to confuse the player even more. By the end of the game, you will probably be asking more questions, rather than know all of the answers.

    Graphics/Appearance
    Graphically, Bayonetta is an average game. The game runs poorly on the PS3, with constant frame rate drops, screen tearing, and excessive loading screens. However, the developer offered a solution post-release. At the the menu screen, there is an "install" option, which will install the game onto your hard drive. Unfortunately, the install is 4GB in size. If you don't have enough memory, you will be stuck playing a terrible port. It is Absolutely Unacceptable to release a game in this kind of condition! The game is not unplayable, but the issues WILL be noticed. I know I've been harsh thus far; but I would be lying if I said the game didn't have amazing art direction. Bayonetta's style is impeccable! From Bayonetta's combo animations to extravagant boss designs, creativity was not spared throughout the development process! Bayonetta is very unique in comparison to most video games.

    Pros:
    -Challenging Game
    -Fluid Gameplay
    -Unique Art Direction
    -Creative Special Executions

    Cons:
    -4GB Install. If you don't have enough memory, you will be playing a game filled with constant screen tearing, frame rate drops, and loading screens
    -Horrendous Storytelling. Little to no character development, bad cutscenes, and confusing storyline

    Verdict:
    Bayonetta is a good game, unfortunately, it has many glaring issues on the PS3. Buy the 360 version if possible. Casual gamers should stay away from Bayonetta since it is a very challenging game. Fans of the Devil May Cry series should definitely buy this game! If you are looking for a difficult hack and slash game, Bayonetta is your best option!    … Expand

    I did not know to expect from this game when I got it, but surprisingly I loved it. Granted- it's not a game for everyone- but its fast paced combat, charismatic character and overall good presentation make this a great game if you give it a chance.

    i really enjoyed playing through this and i am soo happy i finished it. i love the variety of moves and enemies so it never gets boring. when i heard it was by the same makers of Devil May Cry i believed they would not be able to top Devil May Cry. I have it on the PS3 and the Loading times were not as annoying as everyone said they were but it does make me a little upset that they got i really enjoyed playing through this and i am soo happy i finished it. i love the variety of moves and enemies so it never gets boring. when i heard it was by the same makers of Devil May Cry i believed they would not be able to top Devil May Cry. I have it on the PS3 and the Loading times were not as annoying as everyone said they were but it does make me a little upset that they got lazy when converting it to the PS3. the bosses were crazy but awesome and i would recommend this for anyone. i will defiantly play this game again and try and get all the trophies.… Expand

    great game. on the xbox 360 that is. on the ps3, its still a great game. with bad framerates, long loading times. just a bad port overall.

    I love this game! I can see how it wouldn't be for everybody, but if you love super hectic over the top action, get this game. The controls are solid and responsive, and very easy to get used to. The graphics are mostly pretty good. I have the ps3 version and yes at release the load times were horrible, but i never had slow down during gameplay, and after the install game option I love this game! That was the only thing that really bothered me, but it's fixed. I don't think the voice acting is that bad, i think it's intentionally corny, part of the style of the game. The story has been really cool so far, and as far as the length of the game, there are some chapters that are long and some that are short with only one verse, so if it seems like it's taking hours to get through a chapter, the pacing isn't constantly like that, you may jump through 4-5 chapters in a few hours later in the game. Bottom line this game is super imaginative well made and fun as hell to play, definite 10!… Expand

    This game was so hyped and for what? If i want to see women objectified i have the internet, and do not think that is not what is going on. It seems the game expects you to ogle and leer at her every chance you get and you are practically begged to actively position her into sexually suggestive poses. The voice acting is horrible and the music will make your ears bleed. The story is This game was so hyped and for what? I will admit however that the combat is very good but this is hampered at times by the camera, when Bayonetta is hidden from view by a large enemy and you have to fight blind.All in all a dissapointing game and if you really want to play it, hire it, don't buy it.… Expand

    If you're like me and hate games with time limits, you will not like this game. That's even more annoying than the pure button-mashing that is the crux of the game. Very disappointing game.

Many protagonists in games these days are quite generice looking, Nathan Drake (Uncharted), Cole in InFamous to name a few. Bayonetta on the other hand is fully dramatised to look extremely tall, curvy, suave and sexy which make her and the game kinda stand out. The game is basically a non-stop comboOkay. Bayonetta is.... one character you probably rarely come across as a protagonist. Bayonetta on the other hand is fully dramatised to look extremely tall, curvy, suave and sexy which make her and the game kinda stand out. The game is basically a non-stop combo action game, meaning the star of Bayonetta is using tons of button combinations to execute all kinds of over-the-top attack moves that are cool and beautiful to watch. The game can be very easy (one button automatic combat) or extremely hard depending on the diffulty level you can choose. It offers quite an amount of content which means you'll be replaying stages to acquire cool items such as the many unlockable move sets, costumes, and different weapons. Aside from the gameplay, side characters are kinda weak and the story is not too compelling . It will certainly take time before you can truly understand the concept behind the story of Bayonetta. All in all, Bayonetta is another action figthing game you'd expect from Sega. It's nothing new or great but it can be a fun experience with all the cool combos. And if you're not down with that, well, at least you get to watch how hot Bayonetta is when she fights!!… Expand

    Although I certainly like the theme and it does have some awesome moments, its battle system is according to me not better than DMC as the they acclaim. It does not motivate you to create your combos enough and in the end it jus gets to to much dodging and precreated combos. New features like the Witchtime and dodge offsets are smart, but they don´t ad much to combos.

This is the craziest game I'v ever played, though apperantly since I never had the chance to play Killer 7 I suppose that's not saying much. But for anyone that had been playing way too many cliched action games, this one is completly cooky by all standards. You can control Bayonetta's character whichever way you wish. It's sad to see then that the balance issues and overdone concept bring this game down. The game is hard, very hard, to the point that it becomes cheap. The game shows bayonetta as an awsome invincible character, but when you start playing you realise that it was all lies. The enemies are very tough and you are required to have perfect instincts if you desire to pass a stage without getting the "you suck" award. The characters are in a universe of their own, and the dialog shows it very well. The story develops slowly and getting better near the middle. underneath the flashy cutscenes and odd presentation, you get a solid action "Devil may cry" game that has perfect controls and, most importantly, fun. But the game never gives you the time to enjoy it because as you continue it will become more and more frustrating. I loved Demon's souls, but this game is hard in a stupidly annoying way. If this seems like your cup of tea you should try it, you might find it to be much better then what I'm describing.… Expand

    I did enjoy this game overall, ie. I don't regret playing it. But, for me, it has to be the most over-rated game of the current generation.

    It is quirky and has some very good levels and sequences, particularly towards the end of the game (I loved the Afterburner-style 'shoot 'em-up' level), so in this regard I at least respect the game, and I can understand why people love it. But I    I did enjoy this game overall, ie. I don't regret playing it. But, for me, it has to be the most over-rated game of the current generation.

    It is quirky and has some very good levels and sequences, particularly towards the end of the game (I loved the Afterburner-style 'shoot 'em-up' level), so in this regard I at least respect the game, and I can understand why people love it. But I just found it, on the whole, rather tedious.

    Firstly, there's the music: I swear that the same song gets played over and over and over and over...to the point where it gets stuck in my head, and haunts me to this day. Music is a useful tool in games for immersing the player and indicating progress and development, both story-wise and gameplay-wise. Having teh same music on repeat makes you feel like you're stuck in some pseudo-disco time vortex that not even Bayonetta's command of space-time can help you escape from.

    Secondly, there are the supporting characters, all of whom are either boring, weird, annoying or a combination of all three. I couldn't work out where they really fitted in, or why they were there. They just seemed like unnecessary extras. The worst of them was the 'New Yoik' Italian-American stereotype who, at the end of each level, you can hear exclaim 'Oh whadda day!' as a sort of ornament/trophy spins on the screen. You have to hear it yourself, because I can't find the words to explain how weird it sounds, and I certainly can't offer any explanations as to what it all means.

    And thirdly - extending from my previous gripe about the characters - there is no story. Well, there is, but I sure as Hell can't tell you what it is. Sometimes, no story is not a problem, if the game is purely gameplay-driven. But Bayonetta clearly thinks story is important given the amount or cutscenes there are. As another user-reviewer has said, they shouldn't have bothered.

    Strip all these away and all you are left with is your standard Hideki Kamiya hack 'n' slash and, save for few exceptional sequences and levels, very repetitive gameplay. Maybe I'm a philistine when it comes to Kamiya's work, but I when stripped down to her bare essentials (pun very much intended) Bayonetta isn't anything special. It's just Devil May Cry with an injection of estrogen.    … Expand

    Good game, non-stop action, Great game play and pretty decent graphics, also theres so much vareity in combos and weapons! It loads pretty quick once you install it on your HDD.... definitely a must have! I give it personally a 9.5.. this game doesn't disappoint

    Bayonetta is a MUST BUY. This game was developed by the same people responsible for Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, God Hand, and Madworld. Buy this game.

    I am very upset i just bought this game! The load times are inexcusable, the camera is a joke. Everytime i see a cutscene it gives me a headache, the story and voice acting makes me ill. If you make the mistake of grabbing an item in a fight prepare for a 5 sec load time just to show you a zoomed in pic of the item. Out of frustration i mash the start button hoping to speed up the load, I am very upset i just bought this game! The load times are inexcusable, the camera is a joke. Everytime i see a cutscene it gives me a headache, the story and voice acting makes me ill. If you make the mistake of grabbing an item in a fight prepare for a 5 sec load time just to show you a zoomed in pic of the item. Out of frustration i mash the start button hoping to speed up the load, but that just adds another 5 sec load time. I'm not in the habit of returning games but this one is going back even if they give me five bucks for it. The game-play (meaning moving Bayonetta herself) is pure fun and highly addictive. Once you get familiar with timing and movement, fighting goes smooth, flashy and makes you feel like you are in control. Some of her moves are so over the top that they made a small miracle to actually make it perfectly playable. Defy gravity, transform into animals, kill opponents with your hair that turns into a giant raven or dragon. Apart from the moveable camera that can be confusing sometimes, there is nothing about the game-play that should be considered other than brilliant, hit detection and avoiding enemy attacks is near perfection, even though as mentioned earlier I did need some time getting used to it. You have witches, demons, VERY intentionally lame jokes and fantastic level design plus millions of bad guys to defeat that come in a great variety. Several additional weapons, costumes, moves and accessories to buy will keep you busy for a while. If you are into Hack'n'Slay and Action, this game is a must.… Expand

    I have to say that I really liked the game. For the first instance I had to go through one hour of wtf-moments, but then the game got better and better. There is a fatel flaw though: The beginner mode is way to easy and the normal mode is to hard imo. You have to play with perfect timing to reach the end in the normal mode. After loosing a boss battle for the 10th time, it getsI have to say that I really liked the game. There is a fatel flaw though: The beginner mode is way to easy and the normal mode is to hard imo. You have to play with perfect timing to reach the end in the normal mode. After loosing a boss battle for the 10th time, it gets frustrating. But that's because of my level as a player and not the games fauld.     Fantastic game. I love the mish-mash button fighting system and really excites me. Cool storyline to be a part of. The enemies are really hilariously awesome and gorgeously created. The bosses fight are memorable and bayonetta manages to own them all. I only wish the game could be longer.

The most impressive feature of the game was probably the boss battles. After the first I thought they couldn't get better but the last was one of the finest bosses I have ever played in a video game. This game is hard even in normal which is the highest difficulty you can start in and some of the alfheim portals are very tough, but this just makes the game even more dazzling and addicting.
    I recommend buying this to any fan of action games as the experience is incredible and as ludicrous as the story and characters are you really enjoy the twists along the way.

The ps3 may be the inferior product when compared to the 360, however the patch released make this a more enjoyable port. Overall, fast-paced, intense, epic, and a must have on any gamers' shelf.

Her finishing moves awaken powerful demons that launch devistating attacks against larger enemies and bosses. On the down side, the load times are really annoying. The screen has to load every stage and every time you enter and exit a menu. Sometimes, not very often, the screen has to load mid level, but this is only for a second. But the weapons and items can be accessed while playing so theres no need to always bring up the menu. Another thing is the difficulty. Bayonetta has a dodge that when timed correctly, slows down all the enemies temporarily. But miss the dodge and you get hurt badly. Most enemies won't have one attack and you will be hit four five times before hitting the ground. And like how Bayonetta can move all over the screen, they can to. But with pratice, Bayonetta can be mastered and that brings a powerful feeling to take out ten enemies without taking a single hit. For players who like hack and slash games where style is key, this is the definitive vide game.… Expand

If you think you'll survive just pressing the square button you are very wrong, you will learn pretty soon to master the "dodge" mechanic that slows time for a couple of seconds. The main character is funny as hell, charismatic, even though at times she goes too far in terms of profanity, making the viewer uncomfortable. The biggest downside for me was the presentation, cutscenes were a little difficult to follow trying to mimic a motion comic (if you are not english it's difficult to read the subtitles and get what is happening on screen). Occasionally this game looked like it came from the ps2-era, fortunately I do not base my judgement only on graphics so it really didn't matter very much. In the end Bayonetta is a must buy if you like fun and compelling games, the artistic direction can be divisive, though.… Expand

    My favourite game designer Hideki Kamiya made another stylish action game masterpiece after Devil May Cry and Okami!

    Shame, I would have given this game a 9 if the PS3 version wasn't such a lame port thanks to Sega. You got worse graphics, massive load times, frame rate issues. Stick with the X360 version if you want to enjoy this game.

    It looks great, making the difference between the dull and gray human world and the colorful and impressive other worlds or "purgatory" as its called in game, where most of the battles are. The Story is very simple with clear villain with a simple and somewhat cliche    not a bad game, in homage to "GRArcada" the game is "Stufective", Stupid concept and everything but yet effective.

    It looks great, making the difference between the dull and gray human world and the colorful and impressive other worlds or "purgatory" as its called in game, where most of the battles are.

    The Story is very simple with clear villain with a simple and somewhat cliche motivation, and presented though the also cliche "amnesia" plot (seriously, if you find the story of this game too complex, you have a lot to learn).

    So while it looks gorgeous and amazing, its too amazing for its own good, for what the game is and offers, the realistic aesthetics it chooses to be doesn't help, it would be more awesome if it was a bit more stylized, then is can had more "over the top" scenes and "over the top" reactions that would help a lot of moments in the game, but what we get is enough to enjoy the game so... meh.

    The Game play is fast, aggressive, sexy, and visually impressive, but if you play for prolonged sessions it becomes repetitive, same enemies same ways to beat them all, and once you get the weapon of your choice, you don't need anything else in the game in terms of upgrades, maybe something to improve your mobility and health but that's about it, sometimes it feels like a button smasher rather than an action game, and as many in its genre, you go in a level, gets stuck in a "room" with a bunch of enemies, kick their asses to continue and repeat, but the different combos add that "itch" of experimentation to make it feel less repetitive, even when it still is repetitive, just enough to want to play a further more, that and try to execute all the "climax moves" on every enemy, those move feels amazing when executes on enemies. The only big problem with some fights and moments in the game are the QTE and instant death moves from some bosses, the QTE need a bit more time to announce themselves and allow the player to put the command in the controller, and the instant death moves should be announced differently so the player can be prepared a bit the first time facing them, at least in normal and easier difficulties, for the hardcore players its ok.

    The audio is immersive, it has passion and goes with the tension or the spectacular visuals it is played, is sexy as the protagonist, and emotional. Said that, there's some levels where is little to no Background music when there is no battle, and the common battle theme repeats to much with the common enemies, making these fights repetitive and often boring. Its only the Climax or torture attacks that makes these common fights enjoyable, seriously, it feels sooo satisfying.....    … Expand

    but for the most part this is very much a barebones version of God of War…
    there will be walls that go up that wont come down until you hack and slash your way through all of the enemies…
    the combat is swift and fun, though not too satisfying, but youre able to fill up a meter to torture your enemies for an instakill as well as pick up their weapons which do a great deal of damage but break fairly quickly.. and the enemies drop these haloes that you can trade for new moves, items, and weapons…
    And finishing an area will cause the game to take a snapshot of usually your vag, cause japan….
    And randomly on your journey youll run into crazy huge bosses that you take down with your hair…
    because of course you do…
    your hair covers your body so while using it.. it isn’t quite covering your body as much anymore..
    I found each boss battle to be fun and engaging, and I found all 9 hours of this game to be perfectly paced for the most part…
    The progression is very linear here, and there are a few really cool cinematic moment to keep the game feeling fresh throughout..
    it never becomes predictable, it will introduce and drop mechanics all the time
    it keeps the game fun and stops it from ever feeling like a chore…
    Where pacing did become a problem for me though is with the vehicle based missions… there are few sprinkled in here.. and theyre fun at the start.. but they drag on for what feels like forever..
    less is more and that definitely should’ve been the case here.. these levels get uninteresting quickly and bring the rest of the perfectly paced game down…
    aside for the poorly paced vehicle missions, my biggest issue with this game is its collectibles..
    Theyre all over the place but they pause the game every single time you pick one up..
    I understand this game is from 2009.. but still.. its annoying and frequent…
    it almost discouraged me from picking them up completely..
    Bayonetta Is one of the few games that gets praise today that actually deserves it…

    Like other have already stated It looks great at first....but soon you'll be looking for something a bit better.
    Lots of fanservice (too much in some cases) that is more silly that sexy.
    In my opionion worse than "Prince of persia warrior within" or "Devil may cry 2" or God of War 3....

    I do not know who is paying the "professional reviewers" but this game does not deserve anything above a 5 out of 10. The plot is pathetic which is saying something given that it being such a fantasy game i had no expectations of it being realistic (and just because it is Japanese does not excuse the ridiculous dialogue, plot and development). It is also not fun to play. Avoid it like the plague.

    Even with the PS3 issues, Bayonetta is a standout in its genre in terms of style, character and enemy design, and fighting fluidity. If you like 3rd person action, this cannot be missed.

    It looks like the game was designed by a horny 14 year old teenager. The character design the color usage is crazy, the screen always seems to be cluttered with random sh*t (flowers, butterflies etc.) and those stilettos i don't think its easy to walk in those let alone fight. The game is outright Stupid.

    A truly great action game. One of the best I've played in ages. I found it better then any of the Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry game. Yes it has some loading errors on the PS3 but with a simple patch this could be fixed easily.

It looks like this game was made by a horny teenager and the gameplay is just shite to much stuff going on and i cant even keep track of the character. not worth 40 quid only worth 20 instead buy darksiders which has a better story and pacing and blows bayonetta out of the water.

    Quite possibly the best action game ever. The technical issues on the PS3 are mostly things you wouldn't notice unless someone specifically mentioned them to you, or show you the Xbox 360 version. Except for the load times. Those are pretty terrible.

There is an install option, but never tried it so can't report how much that improves things. The camera is a not great, never seems to be where its needed and often obscures enemy movements when it's damn essential you get the timing 100% right. Also will game-over the player upon failing a QTE, I f**king hate QTEs.

    How to describe Bayonetta? Crazy over the top action. Satisfying, diverse and yes crazy gameplay. It hooks you! Story ain't so great but strong protagonist keeps you entertained. Music fits the game perfectly. If you are looking crazy action game this is for you I mean think about it bayonetta's hair turns in to demons.

    Awful game design decisions (platforming sections that break the flow of combat, quick time events, lengthy cutscenes you have to open a menu to skip, etc.) and occasional lag keep Bayonetta from being the 10/10 sterling action game it deserves to be. Still highly recommended.

    Probably the best hack and slash game I have every played, and I played it in my PS3 xD

    Graphics are quite nice, but gameplay is just exquisite. Learning all the combos and using them will become an obsession.

    I am thinking in buying a Nintendo WIi U just to play Bayonetta 2...

    First let me explain the core concept of Bayonetta: how its combo system works. You can punch/kick in a sequence to    Bayonetta is a great action game, one of the best to be honest.
    Unlike certain 'hard' series which refuse to explore the difficulty settings and only respond with 'git gud', Bayonetta fully exploits the difficulty with two ingenious ideas: Dodge offset and Witch time.

    First let me explain the core concept of Bayonetta: how its combo system works. You can punch/kick in a sequence to execute a combo. For example, the easiest combo is P->K->P. The last punch is a powerful punch called Wicked Weave. It can potentially inflict stun, and deal more damage than your normal punch. The longer your combo is, the more powerful the last Wicked Weave(s) are. P->P->K->K->K gives you two kick Wicked Weaves and it is one of my favorites.

    Now you know the combo system, then naturally you will want to execute as many Wicked Weaves as possible, especially the longer versions. But here is the deal, the longer your combo is, the more likely your combo will be interrupted by enemies. On the highest difficulty, even P->K->P is very hard to be executed without interruption.

    So what can be done? Here is when the genius comes. Instead of giving you a universal tool on all difficulties, casual players are given Witch Time and more dedicated players are given Dodge Offset. Witch Time solves the problem by semi freezing the enemies thus gives you plenty of time to execute the combo. Enemies are quite aggressive even on Normal, so even by spamming dodge, you are likely to trigger Witch Time. It fits the casual scene perfectly, it's low risk but high reward and it is not hard to execute.

    Dodge offset is another story. Suppose you are trying to P->K->P, and during the kick you are about to be attacked. You hold the kick button then press the dodge button. This allows you to maintain you combo. After the dodge, if you press punch, instead of starting from beginning, you do a Wicked Weave.
    Now why Dodge Offset is so awesome? With it your game flows fluently without any awkward pauses, and the combat feels like dancing. Bayonetta also adds a few more tricks to raise the skill ceiling and makes the game more enjoyable.
    The first one is the pause combo. Take PPPPK as an example, if you pause after the third punch(PPP.K) you can execute the last kick Wicked Weave faster. PPKK.K changes the last kick into a launcher, P.P is an excellent quick launcher with the sword. Pause combo can be quite hard to execute when combined with Dodge Offset, you might need to practice a lot.
    The second one is the different 'hold property' of weapons. Let me explain. Pistol is the most balanced weapon, and it feels very comfortable when you hold the punch/kick. Its damage is linear. Suppose you can hold the punch for a maximum of two seconds, and you hold it for .5 second, then you deal a quarter of your maximum damage with a single punch. On the other hand, shotgun is not linear, you have to hold the punch for at least a while before it actually shots. Sword has a charge ability, you can't constant hold the punch/kick button when you attack, instead you want to hold right before you are about to dodge.
    The last thing is you are given a bare minimum amount of time to react to enemy attacks. I really mean bare minimum, if you react slightly slower, you will get hit. As a result, if you can't do Dodge Offset like a second nature, you will either do a lot of dodging but no Wicked Weave, or you will get hit a lot.

    It is very rare to see a game putting these amount of efforts to make it both accessible and challenging. And it doesn't compromise its core concept in the process. A true gem among the action genre and a must play, regardless of your skill level.    … Expand

    Awesome action game, one of, if not the best of the 7th generation gameplay it's probably it's stronger point fluid, precise and polish. Story it's by far it weakest, but don't let that stop you from playing it. Although the ps3 version has some frame drops and long loading screen it doesn't affect your experience at all. Just do yourself a favor and play it.

    Better drink your energy drinks because with Bayonetta, everything happens so fast. Flashy, sexy and technical mashed are mashed together by Platinum Games and they are combined beautifully. With your light and heavy attacks, your job as Bayonetta is to vanquish (yes, another Platinum Game game pun) all the enemies on the screen. Striking resemblance from the gameplay of the DMC series, I can definitely say that it is not its clone. Its more of a Tomb Raider and Uncharted rather than God Of War and Dante's Inferno.

    Noticed how I made the first paragraph about Bayonetta's gameplay short? It's how the game actually feels. Things might overwhelm you but surely you are kept in track. You can see all the details and it is based on your reflexes and insticts to dodge, counter attack or take damage. The gameplay of Bayonetta is twitchy, fast-paced and only need a short attention span per fight but it will need full commitment on your behalf to do all the actions needed to defeat the opponents.

    Combat in this game primarily consists of mixing your light and heavy attacks that may differ based on your equipped weapons but the core of the said combat system is the dodge mechanic. Once an enemy's attack is dodged, time slows down for a small window that leaves all of them vulnerable. Its injected perfectly to the lore and as I said earlier, you can see everything but it may become harder to dodge on higher difficulties. Bayonetta then lashes out a devastating flurry of attacks that you command. Either you target a single oppenent, raise them up to the air and juggle them up with attacks or deal heavy AOE attacks to build your Climax faster and kill off a single target instantly plus, bonus gold halos which are the ingame currency.

    STORY & THEME 7/10
    A brief summarization of the lore, Bayonetta is an Umbra Witch that lost all of her memories. The journey here is about regaining all those to avoid world destruction. Actually, the whole story is a mess and all over the place. Too convoluted for its own good, most of the time , the story takes a back seat and makes you look forward to the next action set piece or fighting section (which is way more fun and cooler than watching those cutscenes). Supporting characters are okay and without spoiling story details, keep an eye on Cereza. She's an important aspect of the story and she's just so cute it is a nice contrast to the gray, dry areas or cosmic black and gold that gives an odd feeling of danger and despair.

    With that said, Bayonetta conquers all threats and negative energies. Make it dragon-like enemies or inverted faced monsters, you name it, she can overcome it. It gives a sense of woman empowerment because in this day and age, rarely do we see a female protagonist that kicks as much ass as Dante from the DMC series. Call me sexist but its really a pleasing sight to see as such. And by pleasing sight, I mean Bayonetta (the game and herself) offers too much gratuitous "pleasing sights" that sticks to the theme that she's a strong, independent, beautiful and sexy woman but really? Japanese, I guess.

    Both of these aspects are pure perfection thanks once again to Platinum Games who perfected their craft already with stylish, easy-to-learn-but-hard-to-master action games. Great button placements that makes it much easier to pull off commands almost without changing your hand placement from its normal position. Responsive controls are also in play and Bayonetta feels very light and agile because of it.

    With perfect controls, the game also comes with perfect audio. Voice actors are very... Anime. And it works that way and since thats derived from the theme of the game, it fits. Music shines through though. With terrific song selection, the mix of jazz, japanese electro, the songs pump you up, making you feel synchronized with the music while doing combinations of strikes and doing graceful dodges. Also, sexy poses.

    GRAPHICS 7/10
    Some level designs look kind of dull but when you get to the cosmic levels where moonlight shines, Bayonetta walks on walls with elegant looking angelic platforms. Adversaries may look kind of weird but undoubtedly took thought that resulted to very well design characters. Actually the concepts and aspects of the main character Bayonetta and the kid Cereza, they look specially detailed (of course, they take up 95% screen time). With linear formatted levels and good looking sceneries, the game hides its own blemishes because if we're talking graphics, the game doesn't hold that well. Bayonetta didn't age that well upon comparing it to other 2010 games like God Of War 3 and Heavy Rain.

    DMC + God Hand = Bayonetta.
    If only PG could optimize the game more for the PS3, this would be a flawless alternative to DMC. Awesome.

    Bayonetta es un grandioso juego de acción Hack and Slash, de los mismos creadores de Devil May Cry y esto se refleja en lo jugable pero siendo mas frenético, al parecer le hizo bien la espera al estudio para saber innovar en este genero, las batallas con jefes son epicas y a gran escala. Al final de cuentas Bayonetta me resulta un grandioso juego en tercera persona en el cual dominaremos muchísimas armas que se diferencian unas de otras y nuestro personaje obtendrá mas poderes conforme avancemos en la historia, las peleas siempre serán desenfrenadas y brutales y con una dificultad muy elevada hasta en los niveles mas fáciles.     Lo acabo de terminar hace escasas horas y como me temía, no soy ahora ningún fan de esta saga ni nunca lo seré, aunque comprendo su calidad, pero lo tildaría de sobrevalorado también. El diseño me parece bastante horrible, pero esos son temas personales. No me gusta nada que salga la señora Bayonetta, que por proporciones mida    Bayonetta es un juego que jamás llamó mi atención.     El diseño me parece bastante horrible, pero esos son temas personales. No me gusta nada que salga la señora Bayonetta, que por proporciones mida 2,20m, aparezca luego Luka, le saque dos cabezas por lo que puede rondar los 2,70m en proporciones y de pronto te pongan a Cereza que comparada con Bayonetta es un bebé recién nacido cuando realmente es una niña de unos 6 o 7 años.

    La trama, pues bueno, ni fu ni fa. Mera excusa para todo lo que sucede en el juego, para justificar las mecánicas jugables y poco más. En algunos momentos es introducido algo de intriga, sobre todo acerca del pasado de la propia Bayonetta, lo cual refresca un poco el asunto. Funciona, pero no me fascina.

    Aquí llega el punto fuerte de Bayonetta. Lo primero, he jugado el juego en el nivel de dificultad Normal, que es el máximo permitido en la primera partida.

    Veamos, el sistema de combate está muy bien, pero desde que he obtenido la katana, me he tirado desde el segundo capítulo o por ahí spameando todo el rato el triángulo a cascoporro y así hasta los créditos finales, que queréis que os diga. Quizás en dificultades más elevadas y voy advirtiendo de que así es necesités mucha más habilidad y paciencia. El tiempo brujo funciona realmente bien, una gran recompensa por un esquive en el momento exacto, que hace que el universo se mueva en un super slow-mo mientras tu sigues a tu ritmo normal durante unos breves segundos.

    Aquí vienen las pegas: Todos los bosses, son presentados en una cutscene, la cual acaba con el primer ataque de estos. Bien; este primer ataque, te lo zampas si o sí, y en algunos momentos me ha llegado a quitar 3/4 de mi vida máxima, lo cual me parece bastante injusto. Un boss en particular, mientras yo me encontraba haciéndole mi famoso spam de triángulo en medio del combo simplemente me bloqueaba y contraatacaba, sin darme opción a esquivar hasta que le apetecía que ya era suficiente la paliza que me había soltado. Pequeños grandes detalles.

    Los objetos quizás están demasiado desbalanceados, sobre todo los chupachups amarillos. Un mega chupachups amarillo te proporciona invulnerabilidad a cualquier ataque durante por lo menos 30 segundos, a cambio de 15 fragmentos amarillos de alquimia u 8.000 aros en la tienda del juego: bastante asequible en ambos casos, si además recuerdas que con ese ítem le bajas la mitad de vida a un boss.

    Realmente creo que es un buen juego a pesar de esos puntos negativos. Pero me parece que la gente siempre ha sobrevalorado este juego incluso a día de hoy diciendo barbaridades como: "El mejor hack & slash de la historia", "El mejor hack & slash jamás creado". Y no. De hecho, la propia Platinum Games ha desarrollado obras posteriores como Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, NieR: Autómata o la propia secuela, Bayonetta 2 (la cual no he jugado pero digo yo que será mejor), que en cuanto a gameplay y espectacularidad le dan mil vueltas.

    Juego muy decente, recomendado, pero no es la gran obra maestra como muchos afirman, o al menos, en mi humilde opinión.    … Expand

    It's ain't great. The graphics look very poor for the PS3 and the controls were not the best. I did not dig the nude stuff, and I'm supposed to be at one of the horniest points in my life. Oh well.

    Some called this action porn and I think the got a point. Lot of crazy action and fun. Great title!
