Here are my problems: 1) The game seems as it was rushed... glitches are VERY common 2) Some of the maps are horrible, just pure crap, a 2 year old could have done a better job 3) There really is only 3 game modes... thats way too little 4) AIMING, yes they screwed that up as well... the transition between hip-firing and ADS is horrible, the sensitivity didn't scale correctly or something because i can turn super fast hip-firing but when i switch to ADS its SUPER SLOW. When you fire a real gun you should be able ADS and follow your target and I find this really difficult. If I turn the sensitivity up my character turns too fast and makes it hard for me to move... 5) Where is the remote control chopper from BC2? 6) The game lacks direction, especially in the bigger multiplayer maps... a good example is that I'm 9 hours in and have yet to find/fly a jet. 7) Quickmatch takes like 6 tries to find a game and the load/death timers seem a tad too long. 8) You know the games in trouble when the reload animation works about 66% of the time... Overall the game is rushed, flawed and full of glitches, most may seem insignificant but when you combine them all... just REALLY hurts the game. The concept is good but as a big FPS fan i expected more. No dice... DICE. Expand

I think CoD has gotten stale, Battlefield adds a lot of interesting new twists. I was planning to buy CoD MW3 but it sounds like the staleness continues and I'm happy with Battlefield 3 so will probably pass. I really enjoy the class system used online and the gameplay overall. The maps are far more interesting than CoD maps have been. The perks for each class are divided up wisely and gives you the option to play strategically with your teammates if you want, but you can still go all Leroy Jenkins if the mood strikes and still have a lot of fun.

There are some bugs for sure, but nothing that ruins the game. I have yet to see a guy shooting me from underneath the map or inside a boulder like what always happens with CoD. I will be looking forward to patch updates to correct some things, especially Team Deathmatch spawn points. There is one particular map in Deathmatch where you can't spawn without being shot in the back 5 seconds later, but most of the other maps don't have as much of an issue because they're pretty large. The Battlelog web site is useful for keeping track of leveling/unlocks/stats and adds to the experience quite nicely. Overall I really enjoy the game and glad I made the switch.

Even a lamppost in day light could affect your vision, blinding you. Other than that there is the fact that running doesn't require stamina at all, you could run in circles all day without getting tired, the bodies os your enemies just vanish after a short time and you can't see your enemies. The gripe with this is that this game supposed to scream realism. Hence, the boringness. But is full of unrealistic things. Overall is a decent game, it kills time if you don't have anything better to do, but don't be sucked in the fanboy-ism who have becomed blind (for real) and would accept any game under certain titles. Everybody that fanatic to think this is 'the best game ever made', should review their concepts in order to not be fooled around so easy by an industry that is getting greedier and greedier. This game is an example of this, a most boring and generic shooter re-served over and over. As I stated, this is my view on single player. Haven't touched the multiplayer pass because i'm certainly trading it over. Expand

I'm also not at all impressed with the menu system. For example, you can't quit a server between battles, which means you actually have to start a match in order to leave. This means that sometimes entire teams leave right as a battle starts, leaving you alone to defend until new people join. Also the leveling system is weird, and only allows one pre-set per class, so there is no way to build different presets for different situations.

Overall, it is a decent game, but it is really hard to get into and enjoy as much as previous games in the franchise and genre.

Well let me start with multi-player (where Battlefield 3 shines): The maps are huge and varied with decent graphics and frame-rate. Unlike COD you can play with little experience of on-line play. Granted you will die numerous times and not kill too many yourself BUT with COD you do get 'owned'. The points system and levelling and numerous types of multiplayer is great, along with vehicles. I generally don't enjoy multiplayer FPS but this I love.

Single player however overall is terrible in my opinion. This is not related to story, that is pretty decent, or graphics, they are cool. It is due to general playability. Firstly I have the enemy within my guns sights (very clearly too I may add) and I shoot but nothing!!! This has happened numerous times. Secondly the enemy can be so far away and dead accurate that you can barely see them and they kill you in no time. This is fine occasionally but it has been this way through most of the campaign. I am sorry but these issues especially, the aiming one, ruined these game for me. BF:BC2 single player was better along with COD MW1 & 2.

Overall it is a bit Jekyll and Hyde but due to being a (mainly) single player gamer I will have to give this a 6.

The campaign is terribly boring. They say the whole scenery is destructible, but you can not break a single light car, and cars take ages to explode. However the single player is not the focus of the game. The multiplayer is decent in that it provides some deep gameplay in large maps. The problem I have with it is the few overpowered weapons and tactics abused by the community. The vehicles are balanced when they aren't taking shots at you from long distance for the entire match, but this is the only way they're used anymore. Many weapons, namely the USAS-12 will have you throwing your controller at the wall. These faults wouldn't effect the experience much except for the simple fact that when you hop into a game, about half the team will be using the same gun with the same attachments, which can take you out of an otherwise immersive game. 6 for sound graphics and deep gameplay, but a poorly written and executed singleplayer and a suite of overpowered/overused weapons that really can take away from the experience. The menus all suck, it does not remember your favorite maps so every time you log on you have to re-select what mode and the map that you want to play. All of the weapons are harder ti aim or target, for instance the sniper rifle wanders so much that it is difficult to shoot anything that is not standing still or at short distance. While the maps seem different, most feel exactly the same, most are boring and are too cramped & tight, very few places to feel safe, this is why I don't like modern warfare games, every time you turn a corner there is someone waiting to kill you that you can't possibly know is there. Thanks for ruining my favorite game, I'll trade it in next week for Uncharted 3. The multiplayer is the main meat, though, and always has been with the Battlefield franchise. Basically speaking, I don't like that either. The matches generally consist of players camping prone in bushes or hiding in shipping containers, but they can't really be blamed for that... Nature of the beast, I suppose. Another annoyance is that a lot of the maps are very tight and don't give you any breathing space. It's a case of; spawn, die, spawn, die, spawn, die... Not so much 'Battlefield' as 'Battleroom'! Ultimately I find Battlefield 3 very frustrating to play. Occasionally a team will pull together or I'll get on a hot streak and I'll have a great, fun match. But that only happens about once every ten games. The rest of the time it becomes a tiresome slog and just isn't fun. And why play a game if it isn't fun? Expand

Saying that though thats not enough to save this game for me. Dice should have focused on making an engine that looks great all across the board. I mean it looks like utter S***. Second the interface is terrible..terrible.. bad company 2's was much more classier. Finally the balance is so outta whack..one shot and your dead unlike 1943 which lets you use skill to land a number of hits to kill and enemy (unless a head shot). Only saving grace is the layout of the maps, the sound design is once again incredible, and of course the weapons, vehicles, etc are great. Servers are stable. As for single-player why bother with that (resources should have went straight into multiplayer) Overall I expected a more polished engine (graphics in bad company and even 1943 are WAY better) and better balance. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Battlefield 3, while it may look nice on a PC and be groundbreaking graphically on a PC, lacks, incredibly on both the PS3 and 360. The entire game, is lacking.

Battlefield 3 is supposed to support the most realistic graphics of any game out there, bringing a large amount of reality, with the simple physics the game has, to the FPS genre. Well, it doesn't. The game looks no where near as well as it was advertised too. While they may have been showing the PC graphics, no mentions nor footage was made available in any advertising of the let down the consoles had to offer. For being such a hyped part of the games advertisement campaign, I am very upset with both DICE and EA on this one. And this is only the graphical fidelity, I haven't even touched on the many, many in game graphical bugs that are absolutely game breaking. Part of the "realism" is the lighting. Honestly, it is some of the worst lighting I have ever seen in any game. Rather than the enviroment looking as though you are a person seeing everything, it appears that you are in fact just a wet camera lens. Every light in the game gives off a blinding glare. Even flashlights from 600 yards away, in the middle of broad daylight, will blind you as if you are starring into a 5 million candle powered mag light. I won't even go any further with these horrendous problems. For what the game was hyped to be, graphically, it is a gigantic let down filled with a multitude of bugs, at least 10 of which I haven't even spoken of.

Now gameplay for BF3 is split into two areas, a Single player campaign and the online multiplayer. I've played both, and both are terrible. Every single scene from the single player campaign, has been ripped from a call of duty dating back to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. From a terrorist setting of a nuclear weapon, a top down mission from a jet fighter reminiscent of the AC-130 level in CoD-4, ride a lont rail shooting levels like that in World at War, shooting innocent police officers because they get in your way in a crowded public area, Modern Warfare 2, to the entire back drop of the single player campaign where you are being interrogated and are playing through flashbacks, Black Ops, to a destroyed Paris overflowing with nerve gas, Modern Warfare 3. There isn't a Call of Duty, that the single player campaign hasn't stolen from. It really is, pathetic. Just more proof, that BF3 really isn't "above and beyond the call."

Now, multiplayer. Where do we begin? Should I start with tactical flashlights that when mounted on a pistol can blind in broad daylight from 500 yards away or should I start with how if someone is aiming a weapon with a laser sight on it at your feet you are for some reason blinded? Not only are there some terrible implementations like these weapon attachments, but some previous mechanics such as destroying a tank, has been made near impossible without an entire platoon working on it at once. It takes 7 rockets to completely destroy a tank in the multiplayer. Yet only maybe 5 seconds to fully repair a tank to full armor. Some terrible items have been added, such as the Recon classes Recon Drone, which for some reason, you can run over and kill someone with a flying object the size of a basketball. The weapons are completely inbalanced, the bullet drop system only works half the time, the suppression system is just havoc, and once again the EA provided servers are absolutely terrible beyond usage nearly.

Honestly, this game would not even be worth a rent. I feel bad for the person who buys my used copy from the game store after I return this, only to have to purchase an online pass to play this lackluster title and just become frustrated with it.

Hopefully EA reconsiders its approach to toppling Call Of Duty in the future, and allows its games to develop their own personality, rather than imitate something else.

Despite its incredible competitive online play, we can't ignore the shortcomings of its campaign and Co-Op. [Jan 2012, p.66]

The nine multiplayer maps seem to be designed specifically to let players come up with their own creative strategies. Compared to COD, this gives the player a real sense of freedom. There is no such thing as a perfect strategy or a trotten path. [December 2011, p.74]
