I might give Assassin's Creed a pretty high rating for his very first installment, as I would start with an 8/10. But damn... for a first installment of a long-running franchise, AC done so many great things, and checked so many boxes. An original story between past and present, great characters, incredible settings and cities, the lore, the atmosphere, the hero (or anti-hero ?), the music, and... the graphics ?! My god, for 2007, this game was so beautiful.

A great introduction to the saga, with its flaws, sure, but a great first game nevertheless. I still enjoy it to this day, even though its direct sequel was even better.

The first entry in the long running Assassin's Creed franchise may get overshadowed by it's expansive sequels. However, AC stands as a corner stone in the open world action genre. Dreamlike and atmospheric unlike any other in the series.

It is a great title for which you can get lost in its cities, explore every corner, collect collectibles, etc. but the missions are very repetitive, going from point A to point B to point C and then back to point A.

But for the rest it is a good game 8/10

The game's setting, set in the historical cities of the Holy Land, creates a rich and immersive backdrop for the philosophical clashes between the Templars and Assassins, adding depth and intrigue to the narrative. The atmospheric score by Jasper Kyd further enhances the experience, immersing players in the ancient world. However, the gameplay can feel clunky and repetitive at times, which detracts from the overall enjoyment. The game graphically has aged amazingly but they ruin it by puttiing terrible colour filters over everything to hide the fact that everything looks the same. The cities are the exact same just with different colour filters. The stealth is terrible and boring, all you do is get caught, run and break line of site, and go to one of the 3 types of hiding places and wait for them to forget about you, it is nothing more than that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Outside of the main story, the small side objectives don't add anything, they are repetitive and there are like two or three different ones. The plot is not bad at all, the simple fact of how the story happens and the timeline I liked it a lot, of course, it doesn't escape from pretty generic clichés but it works.

It's not a bad start at all for a saga now that it's well cemented.

The game has a rather simple plot and the biggest problem is the gameplay. The idea is great and combat can be pretty challenging sometimes but all in all, this game is the ultimate winner of repetitive gameplay! It will make you do the same things for around 12 hours. In every new city district you enter, you will find completely the same side quests and after only a few hours of playing, I was asking myself: “Didn’t I do this already 100 times?”. It is worth mentioning that jumping controls can be a nightmare sometimes and you can end up on a totally wrong side or worse, in the water, which will cause the last checkpoint loading screen (protagonist is a tough warrior but for some reason he cannot swim). The good thing about this game is that it is just a bit of a boring prologue to a few much better Assassin’s Creed games (II, Brotherhood…).

The biggest thing is how bad the game controls. They tried to make the most with the controller and I think it's too much. Each button does a drastically different thing. It focused way to much on trying to make you feel like you are actually Altair and it didn't work.

The story is interesting but basic. You can tell it is heavily Matrix inspired. I know the stories get better in the later installments but I'm not going to play those after this game. The Assassin story was also very basic. It was a concept that has been used many times before but with Assassins.

The graphics were good for the time. I think they hold up today honestly. They did a very good job with the graphics but there aren't any subtitles. I know it's not a disappointment to everyone but it was to me. I really just wasn't a fan of this one.

The game is also poorly optimised for PlayStation 3, with the frame rate dipping often and in some cases dipping so much making the game unplayable and forcing a reboot of the system.

The only thing Assassin's Creed 1 has going for it is that it was an interesting concept for a game, the way the writers created a fiction storyline within non-fiction setting is pretty neat, and the visuals, whilst outdated to today's standards, were great at the time, and the attention to detail in the world's architecture and visual design should be applauded.

Unfortunately, visuals and an interesting concept can't carry the game. The first Assassin's Creed game is just...boring, and I would have a very hard time recommending it to anyone.

I think the first Assassin's Creed was highly overrated back in the days. It had new, refreshing ideas: Good climbing mechanics compared with a big open world made the game very unique. The story behind a secret creed at the time of the crusades was promising. And some other gameplay elements seemed to be good as well like the hidden blade.

The story behind a secret creed at the time of the crusades was promising. And some other gameplay elements seemed to be good as well like the hidden blade.

But after like 2 hours in the game you start to realize that the game is ultra repetetive. You have to assassinate 9 people and the pattern is always the same und you do things over and over again. At first you have to climb viewpoints to reveal the map. Climbing the first 5 viewpoint and fall into a haystack is fun, but after the 20th time it looses ethusiasm. Then you have to do information gathering mission in order to get infos about the target. These missions are also ultra repetetive and sometimes don't even make sense like gathering flags within a time limit. Another mission is stealing a map or a letter which contains informations about the target, which is just pressing one button at the right time and of course you do this over and over again.
Then comes the main mission where you have to kill the target. These missions are highly scripted and you have most of the time no choice on how you want to approach the assassination.

Exploring the big area between the 3 cities could be fun. But unfortunately the soldiers in it always gets suspicious when they see you and eventually start attacking you, so there is no time for to explore the area in peace. Also the combat system is far to simple.

All in all I still give it a 7 because of its innoative ideas, the good climbing and running mechanics, the big open world and good graphics.

As the starting point of what would end up becoming one of the most beloved franchises of the 7th console generation, 2007's Assassin's Creed was truly a unique voice in a sea of familiarity; something new and different that no one had really played before. That's not to say the game is perfect by any means, because a decade later, it's far from it.

To begin with, the story is very simplistic but is executed well for what it was: after a mission to retrieve an ancient relic goes horribly wrong, a demoted Altair must assassinate 9 Templars to prove his worth and move his way back up the ranks of the Assassin Brotherhood of the Third Crusades. It works as a progressive story, showing the growth of Altair and how his peers and mentor react to him during this growth. It makes you feel like you're progressing through the ranks and manages to keep you interested through its decent character work and interesting storytelling. Some of the characters can be a bit one-dimensional, and Altair weighs a bit more on the 'bland' scale of Assassin's Creed protagonists. The story can also get a bit stretched out and slow at points, however there is also a massive twist at the end that comes as quite the surprise.

Gameplay is a bit of an oddball, skipping between fun and tedious at random intervals. To begin with, there is no fast travel, which can make going from point A to B very slow. Free-running works but is very clunky and a bit buggy (however not as buggy as some future instalments). Combat is simple and easy to understand and get to grips with, but can be exceedingly slow, as well as a pain when confronting many guards at once. Also stealth can be very slow and not very gratifying, making stealth sections a bit of a slog . On the other hand, there is a decent amount of ways to confront enemies, making every confrontation feel fresh. However, the mission structure is not very fresh. All missions (pick-pocketing, racing, eavesdropping, beat ups) are integrated into the story and are essential to getting to each individual you are assassinating. It's fine when you have to only do it once or twice, but to do it up to 7-8 times? This becomes exceedingly repetitive.

Visually, for 2007, the game actually looks really damn nice. Each city has its own unique feel and atmosphere, with its inhabitants reacting and behaving in different ways to events happening in their cities. It's also structurally impressive, which helps to make the world visually appealing and brings the world of the Third Crusades to life.

All in all, it was a humble beginning for the Assassin's Creed franchise. Whilst this game was really decent back then, the original Assassin's Creed has aged terribly and the flaws really do stick out more then they did. It's not terrible, but it's just not that great either. It's a very 'meh' game.

On 9 occasions you have to explore the 3 cities in the game and keep on doing the exact same thing to unlock your target such as eavesdropping and pickpocketing which you do countless times. The game is all-around fun to play. It's one of those games I can go back to at any time and start a new game and feel the same feeling I did when first playing it. I never get bored with it.

Though gameplay is repetitive, with the assassination missions always requiring you to gather information by doing the exact same 5 sub-mission types for each target, and each new city you visit having you climb up to viewpoints to reveal the map and said sub-missions, the game's story is what holds it together. It presents itself so well that the game never really feels repetitive to me. Every single mission feels like I'm actually accomplishing a mission, and each actual assassination mission is unique and interesting, providing multiple ways to close in on your target and take them out. The only thing I wish is that there was the air assassination technique introduced in 2, though to be fair it would absolutely trivialize a lot of missions, and despite not having that particular ability, moving in through a dense crowd or following your target from the rooftops to swoop in and strike with surgical precision is as satisfying as the Assassin's Creed series has ever been.

On top of that, the future narrative was the best in this game than it ever has been, and while it was new, it was interesting and mysterious. Too bad it got dragged through the mud for 5 games with Desmond McBlanderton, the blandest character in recent video game history.

Despite its shortcomings, being a brand new IP, I'm not holding too much against it, and the game is so well presented and interesting that I don't even care about the repetitiveness of its mission structure. The story and the assassination missions are beautifully done, and that's what makes this game my favorite Assassin's Creed title next to its sequel.

The first game in the AC franchise was like a breath of fresh air when it was first released in November 2007. Created by Ubi Soft Montreal, the team responsible for the PS2/XBOX "Prince of Persia" trilogy, it was promoted as an open-world "Hitman"-type game set during the days of the Holy Crusades. Created by Ubi Soft Montreal, the team responsible for the PS2/XBOX "Prince of Persia" trilogy, it was promoted as an open-world "Hitman"-type game set during the days of the Holy Crusades. But those who played it discovered it was really an action-adventure with a sci-fi twist. This first entry placed players into the shoes of Desmond Miles, a kidnapped bartender forced into entering the "Animus", a Matrix-like computer simulation. His goal is to access a lost memory that belonged to one of his ancestors. This memory contains the whereabouts to the "Apple of Eden", an object containing knowledge needed for world domination through "mind control". Desmond is caught between a centuries-old war between two ancient factions; the Assassins and the Templars. The latter have taken him captive.

Unfortunately, the PS3 version of "Assassin's Creed" lacks Trophies and suffers from a bad framerate. There is also frequent screen-tearing that occurs. The gameplay itself can be become repetitive due to the very limited side-quests and the repetitive structure. In order to gain abilities and knowledge, Altair (Desmond's ancestor) must assassinate nine radical leaders who seem to be agents of evil. He is a tool throughout the game being kept in the dark from the truth. The sword fighting is interesting since it's not really a hack 'n slash affair, but it can get old quick. The same can be said for the optional objectives which sometimes must be completed in order to advance the story. In the end, the visuals and innovative parkour movements are more impressive than the gameplay itself.

Overall, "Assassin's Creed" is a groundbreaking game that should be played by fans of action-adventures. It's not a masterpiece in any way, but the graphics, story and combat/parkour are all good. You may not play it through twice, but you'll probably be impressed with some of it. The XBOX 360 has a higher resolution, solid framerate and contains Achievements. For that, I'd rate it with a 7.7. The PS3 is more of a 7.5 because of its technical issues.

Desmond is captured by Abstergo and forced to use a machine called the Animus to explore Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad's memories during the time of the Third Crusade. Desmond begins to witness events after Altaïr breaks all three tenets of the Assassin Brotherhood while attempting to stop Robert de Sablé from taking a Piece of Eden. Al Mualim, the Brotherhood's leader, demotes Altaïr to Novice and tasks him with assassinating the nine Knights Templars, including de Sablé, to regain his former status. Altaïr's quest eventually leads him to face de Sablé in the presence of King Richard I of England warning the King of de Sablé's plot to kill him. Altaïr defeats de Sablé, but with his last words, de Sablé reveals that there were ten Templars, the last being Al Mualim, who now holds the Piece of Eden. Altaïr returns to face Al Mualim, struggling to fight through the illusions created by the Piece, but eventually kills Al Mualim. When Altaïr recovers the piece, he—and those watching the Animus—witness a holographic map showing locations across the globe where other artifacts are located. Desmond is pulled from the Animus, and was going to be killed, but his life is spared by Lucy Stillman, an Assassin working as a mole within Abstergo, as she claims they might need to further examine his memories later. He comes to learn that a former test subject had left messages only Desmond can see, foretelling of the end of the world in 2012.

The first Assassin's Creed introduced elements that would remain cornerstones of the rest of the series. The game attempts to create historical versions of Masyaf (the Brotherhood's location), Jerusalem, Acre and Damascus, and incorporates a number of documented historical figures into the story. The virtualized Animus system, free running, climbing, stealth, and parkour elements were all present in this title, as well as the initial formulation of the combat system. The player would have to complete a number of side quests before they would be able to obtain an assassin quest from a local Brotherhood guidemaster in each city, though future games would abandon this prerequisite

how this game works. There's no doubt it is tedious, but no game is as much fun in bursts. You can play, love it, and stop. Then in a month you will pick it up again and play, love it, and stop. It's weird how the game does this, but I think our attention spans as humans don't last as long as they should. Running away from guards is so much fun,

Whilst the game is initially enjoyable, it becomes repetitive. The settings are slightly lacking in atmosphere and the control scheme is weak. Nevertheless, the first instalment of the Assassin's Creed franchise provided a world of promise, with an intriguing story and innovative gameplay that was fit to excel in later renditions.

It's not my favorite game, by any means, but it was great. It had some good graphics and it played smoothly. Some of the assassinations DID get old because they seemed to be the same thing over and over. But after a while, when you started going back to the same city... it did change a little (to me) it got harder. On to the story... it had a great story and a nice POV on the A.D. times. It's not my favorite game, by any means, but it was great. It had some good graphics and it played smoothly. The assassin's and the templars. I like how it wasn't about saving anyone... it was about regaining your honor within the brotherhood.

Only thing I might say bad about it; the climbing could have been better.

The first Assassin's creed had genious in the story and world writing in the game, while sacrificing gameplay variety and side quests.

One of the most atmospheric and best open world games of its generation, and the pioneering installment to its franchise; Assassin's Creed was the backdrop I wished the future installments always went backed to, revolving around templars and assassin's.

  1. Its stunning visual style, high concept story, and wildly open level design are like nothing else, even if too much repetition begins to frustrate in the later hours. It’s a game people will still be talking about five years from now.
  2. With its riveting story, beautiful visuals and surprisingly lifelike world, Assassin's Creed is an incredibly deep, enjoyable game that kept us addicted from beginning to bizarre end.

It attempts a lot of ambitious things and it almost succeeds at every one. But it's apparent that these grandiose ideas may have been a little too much to master the first go-round. But hey, at least the groundwork is laid for a killer sequel -- right, Ubisoft?
