Its the first game in the series and it has some ideas but still feels like a concept for the upcoming better games. Still a good game worth playing. Story is amazing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game which started the juggernaut franchise for Ubisoft still feels very raw in gameplay and presentation. The story isn't gripping nor are the actual mechanics of the game. It was from this uncut title that they fashioned an entire mini genre. This first game however need not be revisited.

A decent video game. It does get a bit repetitive, but overall still a good experience.

The first Assassin’s Creed game is very far from a great game but it is a great start of the franchise. The game has a rather simple plot and the biggest problem is the gameplay. The idea is great and combat can be pretty challenging sometimes but all in all, this game is the ultimate winner of repetitive gameplay! It will make you do the same things for around 12 hours. In every new city district you enter, you will find completely the same side quests and after only a few hours of playing, I was asking myself: “Didn’t I do this already 100 times?”. It is worth mentioning that jumping controls can be a nightmare sometimes and you can end up on a totally wrong side or worse, in the water, which will cause the last checkpoint loading screen (protagonist is a tough warrior but for some reason he cannot swim). The good thing about this game is that it is just a bit of a boring prologue to a few much better Assassin’s Creed games (II, Brotherhood…).

I really liked this game at first, but you are doing pretty much the same thing with each target you go after. It gets boring real quick. I also found it real annoying that you couldn't swim. What kind of assasssin can't swim?

I've got interested in the franchise first due to the different historical contexts and the mysticism around this universe. Unfortunately, nowadays Ubisoft doesn't care about it that much, doing only something that sells because has the "Assassin's Creed" name on it. But the debut was good. The exploration, the worlds, everything was intuitive and with lots to explore.

Game had many groundbreaking features but did not age well. The gameplay is super repetitive and the controls are frustrating and tedious. The way that you unlucky your gear and abilities is also strange and immersion ruining. The combat is also ridiculous in the way it is repetitive and easy once you figure it out but also incredibly frustrating based on poor controls. This is the first assassin-themed game I played, quite new and interesting, the plot is attractive but the annoying thing is the repetitive side quests are boring, the plot is good but not well exploited. The graphics are optimized for ps3 which surprised me quite a bit. Anyway, it's a game I rate average.

The game's setting, set in the historical cities of the Holy Land, creates a rich and immersive backdrop for the philosophical clashes between the Templars and Assassins, adding depth and intrigue to the narrative. The atmospheric score by Jasper Kyd further enhances the experience, immersing players in the ancient world. However, the gameplay can feel clunky and repetitive at times, which detracts from the overall enjoyment. Nevertheless, Assassin's Creed 1's ambitious storytelling and thought-provoking themes make it a noteworthy entry in the series, setting the stage for the franchise's future success. Expand

  1. Its stunning visual style, high concept story, and wildly open level design are like nothing else, even if too much repetition begins to frustrate in the later hours. It’s a game people will still be talking about five years from now.
  2. With its riveting story, beautiful visuals and surprisingly lifelike world, Assassin's Creed is an incredibly deep, enjoyable game that kept us addicted from beginning to bizarre end.

It attempts a lot of ambitious things and it almost succeeds at every one. But it's apparent that these grandiose ideas may have been a little too much to master the first go-round. But hey, at least the groundwork is laid for a killer sequel -- right, Ubisoft?
