This is one of the greatest game I ever played on the Assasin's Creed Saga...This game has a good story and gameplay and has an amazing atmosphere and represents the era perfectly.
The Two Protagonist are well written and also the proganist Desmon Miles is written good he grew up with us and had marvelous experencies with his chapters...the gameplay parkour is still improve after 5 games!

One of the best games in the AC series. New fresh approach with a nice, big world. Less cities, more nature - and it works just fine. Overall rating: 8.5.

Just a heads up, though, sometimes the game's pace can be a bit wonky and the controls might make you go "ugh!"

Another terrible Assassin's Creed game like all the others. Horribly sluggish controls, equally sluggish story, and mostly uninteresting characters. A real shame Ubisoft keeps pumping out the same old garbage every single year. I'm done with this series and with Ubisoft.

Assassin's Creed is a series with a great premise... and games that never live up to that premise. This original formula is kind of clunky, not really fun and the story doesn't help. The setting can help other entries in this series, but the American Revolution doesn't work for this formula, it's just Ubisoft appealing to their largest market, the USA. Not much here for anyone.

Boring gameplay that is too easy, parkour mechanics that don't require you to use your brain and a decent story with a disappointing ending. İf it wasn't for Haytham Kenway this game would be insufferable and soulless.

Best game of the series back from when it was still about being more stealth and assassiny. Beautiful story, good graphics for its time, great gameplay, To top it off this sound track is not only beautiful, but the theme for the main character has become the the theme for the franchise in general.

Assassin's Creed III is the first American AC game starring a Native American and it was not so good that I expected to be. The graphical fidelity and improved gameplay mechanics are an upgrade to the AC franchise, but the story and main character not so much. Modern day is really good. Its best modern day part of the series. We are playing first 2 sequence as Haytham, then we play with Connor. And Haytham's sequences is finishing with great suprise (best of the AC universe)

But, you cant develop Connor to much. Health is not rising, you dont need new weapons. So you dont need money to. So i never make trades. Combat is meh, parkour system thinks players are idiot.

Sea battles are great stuff. Characters average. Even though Ubisoft tries to convey the emotions in Connor, Connor's face is always dull. Only Haytham is a great character. Ubisoft successfully drew a thin line between Assassins and Templars for first time with Haytham Kenway.

Using R1 for running and climbing wasnt a good idea.. I hate how you can only climb some things in spots. I'm so happy they changed that now. Also the combat is just counter and attack for the most part... I hated the missions where you had to run on a track pretty much and follow someone and if you didnt keep up you would get desynchronized.. Same thing with the stealth. Graphics: Pretty darn good actually. A big step up from previous entries. However somehow hands and some animations actually look worse.
Technical: This game is pretty much where it all started to go downhill for Ubisoft Q&A. There were multiple bugs, some even game breaking like the giant bear mission.
Gameplay: Fighting looks darn cool and ferocious, but the game still seems to suffer from clumsy climbing mechanics and odd actions when simple walking over simple objects.

In Summary, this game seemed to do the bare minimum when it comes to delivering an conclusion to years of AC games. It has enough shining moments to prevent it from being a failure, but it hangs by a thread. I rate this an average game, which earns it a 6/10.

The Wolfpack mode on MP was a great deal of fun until you mastered it and then it also became a repetitive grind quest.

CONS: Slow introduction, thus cutting into the overall development of Connor's story. The Homestead and Underground mechanics end up not being useful due to how long it takes to develop them. Parts of Connor's performance fall flat, in spite of an overall solid story displaying hardships the Native Americans endured.

The story was quite impressive in parts and did seem to show that Ubisoft can flourish with sequels set in completely different environments and eras, but equally it was dull and tiresome in others. Connor was not nearly as interesting as Ezio nor was he infectious when he tried to be and the game as a whole certainly suffered from that, let alone the story. There were also a huge amount of bugs and glitches in this one which made it more difficult for me to fully immerse myself at times. Anyway, with fantastic new additions including hunting animals, nautical gameplay, the advantages of the Homestead or even the winter environments, the game was certainly good enough to be worthy of a place in the AC series rather than being a filler.

To wrap it up in a nutshell, a great game that would have met my expectations if it weren't for the boring protagonist, annoying bugs and glitches or the questionable ending which I haven't talked about yet. I'll leave that to judge for yourself. Simply put, it wasn't the smoothest transition from the awesome Ezio trilogy.

    *Minor Spoiler Alert*

First of all, let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of the series. The original game and Assassin's Creed II are both amongst my all-time favourites and most enjoyable gaming experiences I have ever had. I did enjoy Brotherhood and especially Revelations (mainly for its story), but the first two entries were indeed something special. So naturally when Assassin's Creed III was announced I was extremely excited. Bear in mind that I actually played the game in the beginning of 2014 (nevermind the reasons), so I witnessed all of the backlash this game had, while trying not to spoil the story for myself.

While I do understand from where all the hate is coming, I must say most of the things other people hated about this game I seemed to like or even love. For instance - the setting: although both New York and Boston were very similar I really liked the Frontier. It was refreshing to be able to move so freely while climbing almost eveything you can see. Even though it was no Renaissance Italy, I think it was an inspiring setting, one which was really well recreated to reflect the given time period.

About Connor, contrary to popular opinion I really loved his character. He was definitely more conflicted, flawed and therefore more relatable than previous protagonists. Unlike Ezio he lost everything at a very fragile age so it is understandable that he was far more damaged. And despite that he was still very kind and naive, yet furious and brash at times, but still a good person. He was really badass in certain moments and had some pretty memorable lines.

Storywise the game has its ups and downs. I must admit I am not as familiar with American history as I would like to be, but I still thought it was very interesting. AC III definitely is a slow starter as the few hours are some sort of prologue/tutorial while playing as Haytham, but looking back now it had some moments that proved crucial to later character development. However, my main issue with the story was that it was (in my opinion) brutally cut short after sequence 10 in both modern day and Colonial America. Especially Desmond's story which ended to say the least underwhelming. And my problem was not the ending itself, but the way it was handled and trivialized.

Gameplaywise is where I think this game is lacking the most. Although I liked the way they refreshed the climbing and combat, as well as adding some new cool stealth + hunting mechanics. I think they were really underused and that was evident from the terrible level-design. And here comes one of my main gripes about this game - the optional objectives. Like it was not enough before when you had to complete a certain action the way your ancestor did, now you had 2-3 of these to restrict your freedom and imagination even further. Add to that the economic system, board games etc. which really had no impact on the game and you get an inconsistent experience, which leaves you asking for more, when there simply is no more. Although I must admit that the naval missions were really fun and impressive. My second major gripe was the Desmond missions, which really held promise and potential but were massively underdeveloped.

Overall, even though Assassin's Creed III feels rushed and inconsistent at times it is still a good game, It really is sad that it did not live to the hype, but I still think that fans of the series should try the game to see it for themselves. I would give the game a 7, but since I am a long-time fan and I believe the major backlash to be too harsh I will give it an 8. I really think this game has the potential of a true gem, but it is evident that it was not polished and needed some more time before release.

    Pros:

    - compelling ancestor story

    - Connor is a great protagonist
    - good setting, The Frontier is a blast

    - fantastic music by Lorne Balfe!!!

    - naval combats

    Cons:
    - Too restrictive and linear in missions
    - Desmond story handled disappointingly

    - glitches and occasional control issues

I honestly can't understand the hate for this game. The new gameplay mechanics are great and the story is actually good once more. And the game is long enough again. A lot of variety goes to the gameplay, there are the typical city areas familiar from the previous games and there is the Frontier: a big forest area where you can go about your business. Where in the city you can climb and run on rooftops, in the Frontier you can climb and run on trees. The climbing mechanics are really smooth. Though some players might prefer the old slower climbing mechanics from AC II and Brotherhood.

The present day stuff is an improvement from AC Revelations, but it's still a bit lacking.

Outside of the sterile and lifeless protagonist you are forced to start off with it's not that bad. However it's not long until you begin to crave the sense of freedom the series is known for. Once the game finally opens up I found it turned into one of the best experiences I've had with this series.

The first thing I noticed was just how gorgeous the game is. Outside of some rare moments (mostly during some cutscenes) where bland textures and awkward animations make things look dated it's one of the best looking games I've ever played on PS3. It all helps add to world that feels alive.

The story is excellent. The fantastic historical setting let's us participate with some of the most memorable events of the American Revolution. The characters are brought to life by fantastic performances and fleshed out motivations. The modern day story gets kind of lost in sci-fi mumbo jumbo at times and lost my interest long ago. But those who've stick with it should love the conclusion to the story that started so long ago, even if they might not like the actual ending.

Tons of new additions, subtle improvements, and grand scale make this the most ambitious AC I've played yet. Ships battles are a blast and tons of new side-quests help you feel connected to the world in new ways. I wasn't a fan of liberating sections of cities being tied to obscure objectives not mentioned on the map, but overall that's a minor complaint. The modern day sections finally let Desmond see some action and gives gamers a taste of how an AC game set in the modern-day would be like.

Multiplayer adds a few new features and game modes. The experience makes it harder to pick out who the real people among the AI are provided they aren't being totally obvious. This may make it harder to get kills, but once you get used to it things feels the same. If anything the extra added effort you'll have to put into finding your targets make it more like being an actual assassin.

AC3 improves and expands upon what came before in the series. It tries new things with series and succeeds because of it. However even with the new features it is still an Assassin's Creed game and feels like it. It's both fresh and familiar.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Being AC third main installment we thought that Ubi-soft will bring stunning new editions to the table......they succeed in some ways but fall flat on others.

First of we get a very long training period until we get to run free in the games vast sandbox. At sequence 6 you can run around and do the things you want to do. The story for the most part is very rushed and there is almost no suspense in the games narrative. There is a new main protagonist in the game...Connor, who sets of on a mission to save his people from the templars. The best part of the story imo was the opening Haytham sequences. The story seamed very paced.

The combat has yet again stayed partly the same ar ACB and ACR. Some cool looking animations and fluid moves make the combat feel realistic. And sometimes you can even get killed because of the different enemy types.

Naval combat makes its first appearance. It was awesome, but after a while it get booring to do the naval missions which last for about 5 minutes. They feel like naval minigames. The storybased naval missions are far longer than 5 min, and leave a greater impact on the story.

The graphics have been improved, but the overall wow factor was less than enjoyable. Mostly because there are no tall building to free run on. Most of the buildings are two or three stories high. Major texture popin issueas are clearly visible, and many repeatetive character animations, take away some of the enjoyment of just running throughout the city,

Overall AC3 ir a good game, but the lackluster story, somewhat booring missions leave us wanting something compleatly fresh. The American Revolution was a great chapter in history, but it wasnt ar greatly told ar in the rest of the AC games.

While the series as a whole continues to be one of my all-time favorites, this particular title was a real stinker. So much so that I sold my copy back to a game store (which was the first time I had done that with a game that I'd finished).

Beyond the glitches which crippled gameplay and pissed me off endlessly (leaving me screaming angrily at the screen as Connor fell through the world for the umpteeth time), the game simply was lacking. The story was generally uninteresting and skipped around in a way that made it very difficult to follow. The protagonist, Connor, was a whiny jerk and whenever I saw more of his "development," the less I wanted to play as him. His father was a much more compelling character to play as, and his section was clearly very much a gimmick to make players yell "OMG!" Some missions were fun, and it was cool to see beloved historical figures, but the game failed to do interesting things with them. The Desmond section of the story was the least compelling in the series when I should have been desperate to get back to him based on where previous titles had led. The conclusion of the game-- for both Connor and Desmond-- was just awful. It was boring, confusing, and frustrating, not living up to any expectations set in the past. None of the games have exactly had the best endings, but this was the worst of the lot.

The fighting wasn't particularly impressive, either. In my playing, I tried to use other weapons but everything besides the hidden blade and the tomahawk were clunky. The naval combat, which ended up resulting in a much better game (IV) later, was unwieldy. The allied assassin stuff should have been awesome but ended up being confusing and less fun than in Brotherhood and Revelations. The crafting and trading and the homestead were all done in a way that sucked all the fun out, while previous games' iterations of those concepts used to be enjoyable. Honestly, this is the most skippable game in the main AC series, and I've told several friends to not waste their time.

AC3 is the last chance the franchise had to reach the quality of Brotherhood once again , and it failed. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but it should have been released like a year later than it was: it's absolutely RIDDLED with glitches, crashes (my PS3 hang completely three or four times during critical tasks/missions), freezes and control issues. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but it should have been released like a year later than it was: it's absolutely RIDDLED with glitches, crashes (my PS3 hang completely three or four times during critical tasks/missions), freezes and control issues. In fact they could probably have skipped AC Revelations to work on the bugs in this one and wrap the series up with a great title, but no. Add to these the unsatisfactory ending (if you would call it an ending)...

When I say glitches, it's either the kind of things that pull you out of the experience (like NPCs disappearing during missions, entire battles being skipped because the assassination target fell on the water (5 years and NPCs still can't swim), characters speaking in cutscenes without their mouths moving or vice versa, repetitive sounds/banter etc) or the kind of things that make you want to throw the controller at the screen (for example in one naval mission it wouldn't let me use the swivels or "brace" to avoid damage. I restarted it twice and it worked). One of the latter is the weird control issues you'll encounter when you try to walk in a straight line when there are crates to the sides: Connor would rather jump from crate to crate than just run a straight line. It'll take you a while to figure out that things are much easier if you don't press the X button (something that should have been emphasized since it contradicts with the previous games).

But it's hard to stay mad at AC3. Cause aside from the story missions there's a ton of things to do and see in New York and Boston (or even the countryside). There's a shipload of side missions , naval missions, assassination contracts, help out poor people and tons of other stuff. Ubisoft did a great job here and did not repeat the mistake it made in Reveleations.

As far as the plot is concerned, on the one hand AC3 has an captivating story to tell, on the other hand the main Desmond/Abstergo/End-of-the-world storyline has no satisfactory ending. Then again, it was a mess since the beginning, so perhaps that's no surprise. Oh, and I should mention that, if you're the type that never reads/watches walkthroughs on principle then you're screwed, because solving the three "power source" puzzles (you have to if you're gonna watch the final cutscenes) will probably take you a year. Another poor choice on Ubisoft's part.

On to the graphics, my mind is blown. These are the best graphics I've ever seen in a PS3 game to date. The framerate is actually better than Revelation's. Threre are occasional freeze-ups but it only happened 6 or 7 times during gameplay.

Overall good game, definitely worth a buy now but you won't be thrilled. It could have been better. Unfortunately I couldn't play the DLC, because the disc was imported in Asia and apparently I'd have to live there to play it. Bummer.

This is the first Assassin's Creed game I've bought, and it probably will be the last. While I liked the time period and the concept of the Assassins, I spent most of my time running the wrong tree to progress the game, waiting for other sections of the free roam map to load, and trying to understand cutscenes that don't make much sense. I really don't think it lived up to the trailer. This is the first Assassin's Creed game I've bought, and it probably will be the last. The Assassin’s Creed formula of fighting and parkour is starting to get old, even with the ability to climb trees now. Maybe it’s the repetitiveness of the series, or maybe it’s just less interesting to toss crates of tea into the harbour than to hunt and kill corrupt bishops.

This review is getting long-winded so let's wrap it up. Assassin's Creed III is the biggest and most ambitious Assassin's Creed title yet, but a few missteps leaves it short of being the series' best. In spite of my excessive nitpicking, Assassin's Creed III is great game and a must-have for any Assassin's fan.

A great continuation of the Assassin's Creed series because of the strong visuals, gameplay and story. Though it must be said that the story gets somewhat boring towards the end, which leaves a sour taste.
