Assassin's Creed II blows the original out of the water. The game-play mechanics have improved ten-fold (although there is still room for improvement), the music is nostalgic and the characters are actually likable. The narrative is far more gripping and interesting, offering a long, action packed murder spree!

First of all.....cutscenes. These gave more life to the game. The story was far more developed then AC1. Introducing new cities to explore, rooftops to climb and Templars to stab. The graphics have also been updated and the bright Italian city's looked phenomenal. The voice acting of Ezio, for the most part, flawless.
The missions where varied, the characters had a better background than the ones described in AC1.

Assassins creed 2 is a great sequel to AC and one of the best games ever imo. Compelling story, great set of characters, unforgettable soundtrack, and better graphics.

Like usual, it makes you think you are in some kind of tv show with all those plots, twists, intrigue, conspirations, etc... Ezio is probably the more chrismatic character in any AC game, and him and other characters are well played and voice acted (specialy the spanish version). If you remember AC1, then would htink this game was more of the same, but it wasn't. Yes, it had quite the repetitive missions too and sidequests. But much better masked. Sadly the rest of the series took this same way, and thats why after AC2 none have surpassed it or improved. Yes, maybe they chanegd little things, improved combat mechanics... but was alwyas the same. Sadly too, this kind of games is full of bugs, not to mention sometimes the controls will spoil the gaming experience, to the point to wish to throw your gamepad. Expand

The player is truly engrossed into the life of Ezio in Renaissance Italy and he is very well portrayed through the story. My major issue with the game is that the combat system once understood is extremely simple and always the same. Enemies always attack one by one and their attacks can be easily dodged and/or countered. Although easy at times, the game is an excellent must-play because of its thrilling story and variety of quests and missions. Expand

The controls are a huge improvement and don't feel different from games like Black flag. The graphics hold up well for it's mildly aging state.
The music is great, some are memorable but most just fit in so well with the game it all just blends together in a big immersive experience.

The only complaint I have with the game is that it's too easy, especially if it isn't your first AC game. The combat is pretty much countering your opponent (which they made astronomically easier in this game) but it has enough other (albeit less effective) options available to keep it fun.

If you've never played AC but want to: Play this game
If you've played AC before but not this game; Play this game

We are starting our journey for revenge! But than, some interesting things happen. When game start, we are not an Assassin. We are stupid lmao. Than we take lessons from unexcepted peoples and thats also great. And, the most important thing of scenario, is the end. Thats really cool mate! Scenario feels better than first game. Because you are playing not copy paste missions lol.

First game I can only remember 4 characters. Altair, Mentor, Robert and our last target. But, this game also fix this thing. I can remember bunch of characters. Ezio, Ezio's Family, other Assassins, our enemies, our friends. Thats really good. We have living city, and they are great part of game. I am really glad... We can buy armours and weaopons for Ezio. Thats all? No, You can buy medicine pouchs, poison pouchs and etc. You can feel Ezio's development! You are watching Ezio, growing up to man.

Openworld and side missions are better than first game. You can feel, you are playing in a living city. Thives on roofs, escorts try to get some money. Everyone speaking each other and etc. Also, i like play with different cities. Thats cool! Openworld is really good.

Side missions? They are also great! You can collect Codex pages, Assassin Seals (for Altair's Armor), you can watch "The Truth" (and this video is really interesting.). For watch a video, you need unlock 20 files! You need find 20 glyphs, and then unlock them with puzzles. Also, we have a castle named Monteriggioni, and u are building shops, and defence systems. You are earning money from there. Also, if u buy a weapon or armor or etc., the money you earn is increasing. That's why it becomes more important to develop Ezio.

DESMOND CAN DO SOMETHING EXCEPT SLEEP, SPEAK AND **** ENTER THE ANIMUS! THATS GREAT! Desmond have 3 missions. Meh, he can do something. Thats good.

Combat System is more arcade than first game. But still good. You still need block sometimes etc. You can still feel this.

The same thing with combat system for parkour. You can feel you are climbing the towers, building. You need press 2-3 buttons still and this is great! Now? Game automatic climbing for you

There are so many gameplay features that are introduced to you over the first 5 hours but you still get some more surprise gameplay sections later in the game. Running up and over rooftops is smoother/faster than before making the free run/parkour very smooth, though there are still some issues in regards to getting your character to do what you want him to do resulting in unwanted jumps to your death. The combat is vastly improved on all fronts including unarmed combat allowing for exciting fights with the city guards. Enemies now have a basic health indicator above their heads to help you keep track of how much damage you have done to each one which is a godsend during bouts with numerous angry men. Grabbing opponents can now involve head butting and kicking. Different weapon types are better for fighting certain guards. You can now fight with your hidden blade! And air assassinations are extremely fun to pull off. There is so much to this game it would take more than the allotted review character count for me to discuss it all but I like to keep things brief. With that said onto the next topic.

No spoilers here with the story, but what I can say... coming from the super serious first entry, I was surprised to see/hear both serious themes and plenty of humourous scenes which on occasion had me laughing out loud. Gripping to the end but can be hard to keep track of character names and how many years have gone by since you have last seen them even with the ingame logbook entries. I wanted more all the time and the game kept on giving throughout my playthrough.

The graphics are lush and look very detailed, with lots of characters on the screen at the same time. This is where we see the games most noticeable negative, like the first entry, the game shows us that it is not very well optimised for the PS3's hardware. Screen tearing and framerate is a bit grating when you view the Italian cities and towns from above or run through some of the larger open areas with lots of people walking about their day. And not too distant objects like trees and fences can suddenly pop into view. While these problems do not make the game unplayable they are certainly a distraction at times. In the beginning scenes I did feel some character faces looked out of proportion, like a certain ladies mouth. But otherwise overall the cities looked just as breathtaking as the other cities in the first game.

I did not like the situation with DLC, the publishers took two sequences out of the late game and sold it to us as DLC. They even leave the gap in the sequence numbers to represent that you do not have the full game. I am pleased to say while both pieces of paid for content extend the game by a few hours and are just as entertaining as the previous 30 hours of the game experience (I 100% every game I play where possible) I consider the 'missing' story inconsequential.

Overall a phenomenal experience, only slightly marred by a few poor decisions by the publishers/developers. If I had a choice I would give this a well deserved 88/100 but Metacritic only allow User Scores out of 10... so 9/10 will have to do. Looking forward to playing AC: Brotherhood to 100% completion soon if ACII is anything to go by.

Huge improvement from the last game! The only thing I had an issue with was the area's of San Gimignano and Forli. Didn't really find it necessary to put missions and collectibles in those area's when you are only going there for one mission. Other than that, I highly recomend this game

Oh well, still a good game. The new mechanics are very interesting, the climbing is challenging and it's fun to get money to buy armor, equipment and weapons. Watching your assassin becoming a master is quite satisfying. I wouldn't say that this game was a contender for Game of the Year, but it comes really close. That's very impressive, on account of the fact that a lot of good games came out in 2009. ESPECIALLY for the PS3. I would want to give this game an 8.5 on 10. But I have to give whole numbers. But I don't feel like it deserves a 9. It's no masterpiece...but it is a HELL LOT BETTER than the first game. For once Ubisoft, I was impressed. Expand

Unfortunately AC2 stumbles graphically, looking very dated at times with constant screen tearing and draw in problems becoming annoyances. Also the missions are rather boring as well, Ezio will usually be helping with numerous problems in exchange for tracking down and killing key templar leaders. Luckly there is more to do in AC2 but the majority of what you will do is probably going to be left sparingly. It's not fair to call AC2 a disappointment, due to the richness crafted from its gameplay and narrative but it's hard not to be disappointed with leftover problems from the original AC and the mainly boring missions, but hey at least each mission gives us more narrative intrigue right? My biggest issue with the game is the terrible combat...it just feels clunky and basically ends up as button mashing, even though there is some potential for strategy. There isn't much challenge in the game, although in this case it doesn't detract from the overall experience. I found some of the puzzles kind of hard, not because of the puzzle difficulty but because if you are playing this game on a smaller standard def tv some of the tiny pictures and text can be tough. This could be used as an excuse to by a 60" 1080p tv though, so maybe that isn't such a bad thing. In my ideal gaming world, they would take the elements of Infamous that were great (the fluid scalability of the environment and action) and mix it with the great story and enhanced realism of ACII. After playing Infamous ACII feels slow and sluggish to respond, but ACII undoubtedly had a better story and more diverse missions. Overall, this is a really good game that could have been great. Maybe Ubisoft will continue to refine the gameplay and make AC: Brotherhood the game that this one COULD have been. Expand

Eventually I took the plunge, but after the first hour of tedious missions, pointless activities, frustrating controls and the pointlessly stupid 'man from future reliving memories of ancestors' BS my heart sunk. They've done me, I thought. Ubisoft are laughing at me; they made me play their first terrible game, and then tricked me into thinking their sequel was different.

And then a turning point game, around about the time when the protagonist, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, leaves Florence and sets up home in a villa. Suddenly, the game felt good. It all clicked into place. It began to be...enjoyable. All which, with hindsight, renders the first hour of ACII as perhaps the most prolonged, convoluted and unnecessary introduction to gameplay that I've ever seen in a game. But, no matter. It was over, and the fun could begin.

AC II has the same annoying sticky controls as the first game and the same dodgy camera, but the missions are much more varied (there is repetition, but nowhere to the same extent as before). The combat has also remained slow and boring, boiling down to counter-attack, lather, rinse, repeat, but in all other aspects the gameplay is fun. What stands out most are the side-missions that send Ezio into crypts and caverns for some Uncharted/Tomb Raider-style platforming, climbing and puzzle-solving. The economy system also works well, encouraging you to bother with side-missions and activities that were just pointless distractions in the first game.

I've tried to explain why ACII is a good game by picking out certain aspects and features but, in all honesty, I can't really put my finger on it. Its whole is greater than the sum of all its parts, and it just feels good to play. And that's enough for me.

Assassin's creed 2 is a huge improvment over the first in some ereas but in others I felt AC1 was better , specifically in the story department. The free running is basically the same in the second game, and although it is very fun to run across Italian towns from one rooftop to the other there are issues that can sometimes become really annoying. In some of the times the game automatically makes Ezio jump to a completly wrong direction causing you to fall to your death. The combat, though still a bit shallow, has improved by much so now you have tons of new different weapons with special finishing moves that add more variety to the action. The game is also longer then the first( 15-20 hours of story missions). The story however is a little overdone for my taste. The ''conspiracy'' stuff wasn't clear at all and it seems the developers want you to get intriqued and curious about things they don't even know themselves. Ezio is a weaker character then Altair in my opinion. The plot is all over the place and new characters come out of nowhere. Ezio is just way too powerfull for a regular guy. how he had become an assassin ubisoft doesn't show. Altair felt like a true assassin that was raised years to become what he was. Ezio becomes a master assassin in practically a year. Overall if you liked the first game you will also like the second. Personally i prefer the original but that doesn't mean that this is not good as well. Maybe it was because of the historical location. It does have some snags, such as slightly repetitious assassinations, some poorly designed side-activities, and combat that has remained clunky. But fortunately, the experience is not overwhelmingly hindered by those blights. Assassin’s Creed II is one of the most inspiring game experiences of its time, and Ezios quest for vengeance is one that you will not regret taking part in.

    The Positive
    __________
+ Splendid story with plenty of characters
+ Various new and useful features and improvements
+ Most of the side missions are gratifying
    + Ambient cities and atmosphere
    + Superb soundtrack

    The Negative
    ____________
    - Somewhat repetitious assassinations
    - Some side-activities are poorly designed

I can't say I wasn't surprised at what Assassin's Creed II offered after its relatively drab and repetitive predecessor. el inicio de lo que hizo grande a la saga, Ezio Auditore

se resiente un poco de popping, tearing y de ser facilón
pero sin eso no podríamos disfrutar de semejante Italia renacentista ni de ser un juego que puede disfrutar todo el mundo

historia entretenida y apartado artístico brutal

This is the penultimate Assassin's Creed game I played, since I ended up getting tired of the mechanics of the saga and have not played anymore up to date.

Its really good game. Definitively one should play it. It does not look top-notch for the first glance , especially on PS3 where framerate drops frequently , but through the all game you can feel that developers wanted to do their best about world design , characters and plot.

A great successor who did many things better than part 1. Ezio is a legendary character, the story is great but sometimes it is unclear how some enemies are connected and why you have to assassinate them.

Probably the best game i've played, ever. The story is interesting and complex, the gameplay is brilliant (fixed every bad thing from the first game) and the graphics make you feel like you're really in 1500 and in Italy. Amazing.

+ The parkour is so fun but sometimes doesn’t do what i want to do
    + Good Characters especially Ezio
+ The game is like a wikipedia page of the Italian history, u will learn alot though out the game about important historical monuments.

    - The ending is so bad, through all the game i assassinated alot of characters just to get to Rodrigo (the main villain) but at the end the Ezio says your death will not bring my father and brothers to back! Then how about the previous assassination! It was really a very bad ending of the story, I don’t how they though about that.

But the story is being slowed down and immersion broken by some repetitive missions like freeing prisoners or collecting all of certain collectibles in the game for a mission, though these can be excused because they are integral to the story. Another problem is that I don't think the stealth is really that developed, sure there are places you can hide, but it just doesn't feel like a stealth game to me. What I did like is the world building after all these years that this game was made it's still very immersive with musicians on the street and the carnival celebrations and architecture it feels really like you are there. Also the gameplay still very much holds up even though the climbing can be kind of annoying sometimes it's still very fun. Expand

[Games are] about delivering a world that you want to invest your time in, full of characters you can have an emotional connection with, and Assassin's Creed II does that almost perfectly. [Dec 2009, p.102]
  3. Assassin's Creed II is such an improvement compared to its predecessor that it feels like a completely new game, rather than just a sequel. The varied missions really shine and the narrative is very effective, in all it's Forrest Gump-esque glory. Despite the quite slow start, Ezios adventures in beautiful Florence and Venice both look and feel amazing, and are well worth experiencing to the very end.
