While it isn’t very original, it can be very enjoyable in short bursts. Unfortunately, the camera problems prevent it from being ideal for long-term play, and make extended play sessions very frustrating due to how needlessly hard it is to see what you’re doing thanks to the poorly-placed camera.
-
The show is for kids, and the game is made for kids. However, there's a surprising amount of meat on the game's bones, as it mixes the literal following of the license with effective and unique play mechanics and a surprising lack of repeated gags.
-
A lack of imagination in terms of game mechanics doomed it to the rental bin and not the permanent collection.
-
Aside from a lack of originality, repetitive levels, and a dull-as doornails storyline and dialog, BottleRocket's game is a relatively solid little game that will satiate your lust for button-mashing brawling.
-
PSM MagazineFans of the program may be able to stomach the shallow, repetitive combat and confusing enemy targeting, but everyone else can avoid it with a clear conscience. [Jan 2007, p.88]
-
Xiaolin Showdown has the elements of a good game, but the execution is so sloppy and shallow that it ends up falling flat.

Official U.S. Playstation MagazineXiaolin Showdown has the elements of a good game, but the execution is so sloppy that it ends up falling flat. [Jan. 2007, p.88]
-
The gameplay is fundamentally broken, the presentation is average at best and there is never a challenge; in fact, I don't think I've ever played an easier game.
-
PSM3 Magazine UKBasically this is a hugely simplified, pointless and weird version of "Power Stone." So get that instead. [Feb 2007, p.78]
-
This simplistic brawler's condescending attitude and one-note gameplay make it worth dodging.
-
Play UKThere's just no depth to Xaolin Showdown whatsoever. [Issue #150, p.89]
-
The presentation is passable, but the gameplay itself is an exercise in pure tedium. The pervasive sense of overwhelming boredom is what really kills it, since a competitive, group-oriented game should ideally be the exact opposite of digital Ambien.
-
Xiaolin Showdown is a bad game, plain and simple. In a genre where speed and chaos is an important part of gameplay, Xiaolin Showdown’s fights are out and outright tedious.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKThis is a farce of a game and "Super Smash Bros" has already done the cartoon, co-op, beat-'em-up with infinitely more flair and class, nine long years ago. [Mar 2007, p.111]
-
Whoever, wherever, whatever you are, there is absolutely zero reason to own this atrocious excuse for a video game.
-
With such soulless and unplayable mechanics slapped onto an idea that was mediocre at best and marketed to kids via a familiar(ish) licence this represents not only the worst game I've played in a long long time but the most gut wrenchingly cynical example of all that's wrong with the games industry today.
