Lockdown is definitely a good game for those who are new to the tactical shooter genre, but the controls hamper the enjoyment of the game.
-
The hard-core realism and punishing difficulty that earned this franchise its rabid fan base has been diluted, and what's left is a hardcore strategic series that's trying awfully hard to be a little more run and gun. It doesn't quite work.
-
Although the single-player game is lacking, the same thankfully can't be said about the multiplayer, which is just as strong as ever.

Official U.S. Playstation MagazineSteel-eyed competence, but not a whole lot of flash. [Nov 2005, p.110]
-

-
Official Playstation 2 Magazine UKDull, lifeless, unexciting and other words for 'boring,' Rainbow Six: Lockdown is uninspired and not worth your cash. [Nov 2005, p.126]
-
The new arcade-style squad control may make things quicker, but it short-circuits the one thing that made Rainbow Six different: intelligent squad strategy.
-
Computer Games Magazineit's ultimately just another tactical shooter to throw on the growing pile of games that make you truly appreciate your mouse and keyboard. [Dec p.92]
