Though there are a number of hidden characters you can unlock, Racer Revenge is ultimately a short-lived experience that will keep you entertained, but only for the first few times you blast through its courses.
-
It doesnt break any new ground. I dont care if the heads-up display tells me Im going 600 mph, the sensation of speed isnt any greater than in Mario Cart.
-
Where Revenge drops the ball somewhat is in the surprising lack of stuff to do or find once all the racing circuits and characters have been unlocked.
-
Racer Revenge looks more like a first-generation PS2 game, complete with draw-in and bland environments. The sounds can be just as dull.
-
PSM MagazineIt could have been a lot better, though, if the courses were more varied and the challenge level higher. [Apr 2002]
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyThe sense of speed especially with a built-up racer is amazing, but it comes at a price: boring, repetitive textures. [Apr 2002, p.139]
-
It's still a great weekend rental, but even the Jawas wouldn't be able to do much with it when you're through.
-
Game InformerIf Rainbow would have made it competitive, I would have loved it, but without challenge, there really is no reason to continue playing. [Apr 2002, p.75]
-
If Racer Revenge wasn't a Star Wars game, such a generic little arcade-racer wouldn't even be worth mentioning.
-
To say you need quick reflexes to survive this would be an understatementits almost like you need to use a mystical, ambivalent power to help guide you through it. Sort of like the movie.
-
Racer Revenge isn't a bad game in terms of action when you're out there mid-gameplay, but it does nothing to add to the fun we had with Episode I Racer.
-
Racer Revenge's staying power is virtually nonexistent.
-
Star Wars Racer Revenge took an excellent control scheme and a promising career mode and sucked all the life out of it.
-
A disappointment because it feels short. The computer opponents are ultimately not up to the competition, and there is no adjustable difficulty setting to level the playfield.
-
This game is just so horrifically bad that I cannot recommend it to anyone without feeling guilty inside.
