    This game is a sad piece of propaganda from the mid 00s and a cash in on what was left of the Socom series for Sony. Opening titles try to recruit you into real military service. The point of the game is to fire on other armed people who supposedly captured other teamates and oppose you. Elimating the enemies is barely satisyfing. Firing the weapons is only sort-of fun. Today, without online play, a Socom game is only half as good. The server has been shut off for this game. It does have a single player, but it seems the story is barely there. The controls, graphics, and sound are all okay for PS2. The voiceovers and music aren't as good as Socom II's. Neither is the sense of urgency of the missions. The epic scale is gone. The level design is more undefined than previous games, as are enemy positions. Enemy AI is quite good. Lots of times you will get fired upon and not know where the enemy is. The open maps can make the game more difficult than it should be, as well as the kickback of the weapons makes the controls too hard. Sniping should have been easier so you could pick up and play this one. Instead you die often enough you won't want to play it. You are supposed to become a hero, but its an average game that won't stand the test of time, and its a pretty sad cash in on war and what was popular in video games.… Expand

    It’s not that Combined Assault is hard. It’s more like the game is very impolite, barely introducing itself to new players. The control and game interface are showing their age, too. They weren’t very good even back when the first SOCOM came out. It’s probably time to rethink the way this game plays.

    It focuses on creating a lengthy and engaging campaign that works great as a single-player experience but can also be played cooperatively online. The result is a new SOCOM game that offers great value for returning SEALs and new recruits alike.
