It's not groundbreaking, but it doesn't have to be. Kids don't care about that. They care about having fun playing it, and I think that is where Activision has succeeded here.
-
Instead of a linear adventure, the game mixes different styles of gameplay into unrelated missions and while strange on paper, the gameplay works surprisingly well.
-
The game’s four different gameplay modes should keep children from losing interest, while the simple controls will provide a great beginning for future gamers.
-
A great movie adaptation and very good choice for younger gamers -- or anyone who needs a Christmas present for a younger gamer in a hurry.
-
Cheat Code CentralAll of the gameplay elements seem like they really belong in the game and aren't just mini-games tacked on to pad it up. For a game that's based on underwater cartoon characters, (warning: pun alert) it's got a lot of depth.
-
The difficulty varies greatly, and might frustrate the game's chosen audience.
-
DreamWorks' Shark Tale is a Jack-of-all-trades for gameplay, but is a clear master for none of them.
-
A worthwhile experience – especially if you’re a parent looking for something for kids that won’t bore you to tears.
-
The game works in its purpose of being a great kid’s game based on a strong license. It’s basic, it’s not too hard, but it is all done very well and it’s not a bad game in the slightest.
-
The game's soundtrack is awesome, but since many of the songs are old and/or obscure, some of the charm may be lost on the target audience.

Pelit (Finland)Everything works just fine. But it is so by the book that there is really nothing to write home about. [Jan. 05]
-
The variety in gameplay was welcome, but playing through the game again would just be more of the same thing that I played through the first time, save for accomplishing the bonus challenges.
-
Shark Tale isn't the colossal adventure it could have been, but it's got what it takes to please the kiddies. Think of it as a graduation from Mario Party. If that series has become too easy for your child, this game is the next step up.
-
The variety of gameplay styles is very lively and, for the most part, it’s a fun experience from beginning to end. It also does a good job of retreading the film and bringing the story home.
-
The graphics are actually well done and do a good job of mimicking the animation from the movie while the audio offers some nice soundtracks and voice-overs.
-
It offers plenty of fun through various different game play styles and retains the hip style of the movie.
-
AceGamezIt has enjoyable missions, lovely graphics, great sound and is fantastic for kids. However, I think it lacks the depth needed to please the older gamer and it doesn't really offer a lot of challenge.
-
A game that fans of the film will likely enjoy, first, because the diverse assortment of different levels keeps the hands-on experience fresh, and second, because so much of the actual footage, music, and dialogue from the movie has been woven so generously into the game.
-
A mediocre release.

-
Game InformerGraphics (especially on Xbox) are sharp and colorful, the characters and areas from the movie are represented well, and the licensed songs are far more impressive than most similar fare. [Dec 2004, p.168]
-
But pretty pictures and good audio don’t always make for a pretty good game, as gamers both old and young can tell you from personal experiences. The gameplay is what counts, and in that sense, Shark Tale doesn’t quite hit the mark.
-
Shark Tale does a fantastic job of representing the film authentically as a whole, but it’s its very basic, mini-game style levels and side-scrolling gameplay that let it down.
-
Shark Tale may feel linear at times, but the experience is not so diluted that it delivers a totally flavourless caper. The game is rated 3+ and younger players should enjoy its mix of chases, stealth, puzzle-solving, simple fighting and musical tap-dancing.
-
The game looks/sounds/controls remarkably well. Little children that saw the movie will be amused-enough to finish Shark Tale in a rental or two.
-
The game is way too simplistic for sophisticated gamers and becomes too much of a challenge for the kiddies.
-
There's nothing to dislike about it. It's well-rounded and harmless in every respect, but there's no real challenge to anyone remotely used to playing games or over the age of 10.
-
Children should have a whale of a time with this approachable and enjoyable adventure, which offers a tasty smorgasbord of game styles served in bite-sized chunks.
-
Short lived fun with a nice addition of concept art pictures being included as an extra, giving the game that little bit more depth but sadly just not enough.
