    This is not only the best survival horror game ever but in my opinion the best game ever. The story is great, there is lots of action and great boss fights.

    It may possess the over the top bad dialogue and storytelling famous in RE, but this only serves to add to the games unique charm. The gameplay is really great, it's got lots of cool elements like the Attache system for limited storage and buying upgrades from a mysterious and hilarious "merchant" It is a scary game no doubt, when you encounter re-generators for example, a horrifyingIt may possess the over the top bad dialogue and storytelling famous in RE, but this only serves to add to the games unique charm. The visual design is all top notch from the locations to the very detailed character models. It can go from very actiony over the top and fast paced to eery and unsettling in a matter of minutes.     By far, the best game in the saga and one of the best games of the world. The story may be a bit... boring (let's keep it like that), but smashing zombie brains and fighting weird-looking monsters has never been that fun. It's just a masterpiece. It's such a shame that the series is not as good as this game due to RE:6 or RE: ORC (I should have imagined that it wouldn't be a good game whenBy far, the best game in the saga and one of the best games of the world.     So it's 2017 and I decided to try a 12 year old game on my dusty old PS2, a game I've heard so much about but for whatever reason, never gave it a go, until now that is, now I had seen let’s plays of the game, though not to completion, and often just for the commentary, but it did mean that I knew some things, like how to use your knife to save ammo in certain situations, or knowing thatSo it's 2017 and I decided to try a 12 year old game on my dusty old PS2, a game I've heard so much about but for whatever reason, never gave it a go, until now that is, now I had seen let’s plays of the game, though not to completion, and often just for the commentary, but it did mean that I knew some things, like how to use your knife to save ammo in certain situations, or knowing that there’s a merchant, therefore a reason to get money, things that might be a bit annoying to learn going into the game completely blind.

    The controls was a surprise, however easy to learn, though you’ll always feel a bit awkward aiming and moving compared to today’s controls of third person games, but oddly enough it doesn’t become truly annoying, more like a challenge almost, because even if you are used to more modern controls, these are different enough that you don’t press things by accident, like pressing jump because you wanted to reload, in this game you hold R1 which is for aiming, and press the jump button, it sounds awkward but I never tried to reload like I would in any other shooter, and I believe it’s thanks to this.

    RE4 vs RE5
    A lot of years ago I bought and played through RE5 on my then Xbox 360, I remember it was ok, but nothing spectacular, it certainly didn’t impress me nearly as much as RE4 did many years later, despite looking much prettier, and I think the two things I remember from RE5 was the crab monster, and the ending, the ending because I didn’t actually complete it, I didn’t have enough ammo or something and was pretty sick of the whole thing after many attempts.
    RE4 I can tell already now will have a lot more memorable moments, if I had to point to anything being a bit weak in RE4, I would have to say the end boss, I don’t think I died a single time, he was easy to run away from, and once you figure out how to get him “stunned” it takes like 3-4 stuns with the Killer7(crazy powerful gun) to follow up, and you’ve won basically, but I don’t need my games to be extremely hard, I’d just like it to be a memorable challenge that feels gratifying to finish.

    Anyway, 10/10 is a bit high, and if I had put more thought into it I’d probably end around 8 or 9, it’s a really well rounded game, I decided on 10 because I couldn’t really point to anything I disliked, and I was surprised it held up this well, often an old game will get plenty of praise, but when you play them you quickly realize there’s a fair bit of nostalgia coloring their perception of the games, to me that doesn’t appear to be the case, and even playing through the game running 480p on my 40” flat screen TV, it was still enjoyable as hell.     Of all the games I have ever owned, this game has sucked the most hours out of me. Love this game and everybody should own it. Graphics, story, and gameplay are the best on the PS2.

    i haven't played the previous resident evil games and i started with this one and i believe that this game mad the resident evil series what it is today cause this game is perfect in every thing survival horror yep you'll find that action yep you'll find that bad ass bosses and moments yes all that is in here with awesome controls and gameplay with a great story makes this game perfect

    simply the best survival horror game of all time no other company even capcom itself can make a better game. the game uses if everything to keep the player feel desperate of surviving. the story, the characters, the graphic, the sound.. etc. everything in it is awesome. a game that define survival horror with an RPJ!.

    The game is flawless and very well made! i had so much fun playing it and is one of the best games ive played on ps2. Good graphics ,amazing weapons and is quite thrilling. Mercenaries was freaky and it almost made my pants.

This game is how action horror games should be made. The level of impact this game has had on the game industry- Gears of War, L4D, and every other over the should 3rd person shooter this gen.     Simply best game ever!!! still playing this in 2013 and never get bored of playing. I think so new RE games and not as good as this game. Actually i have never counted how many times i have played this game. Its no 1 in my list

    Definitely the best RE game to exist! It's exciting, suspenseful, and scary as h**l! Just wish all the newer RE games wouldv'e followed the same formula this one had.

    One of the best PS2's era game ever. Wonderful game, spectacular visuals, amazing characters, great weapons and enemies, the scenarios are dark and gritty, something expected from a RE game.

    Along with Silent Hill 2, this is THE Survival Horror game. It's amazing, innovative, scary. Controls are amazing, graphics are good. The only downside is probably "LEON! LEON!". But that is nothing compared to the rest of the game.

Now people complain it lost its survival horror roots with this game (and I agree the series eventually did) but if you play that opening village scene without terror (especially when chainsaw man comes out) you are probably not human. So go on, prepared to get scared and return to a time of good Resident Evil games, and the only good Resident Evil game that has a good story, good gameplay, and good graphics. It's not the original GameCube version but in some aspects the PS2 version is better. So play it, just bring an extra pair of pants.… Expand

    This game has virtually nothing wrong with it. From the moment I started playing it hooked on to me and never let go, the game in my opinion is a perfect blend of action and horror which has never been successfully replicated since. In my mind, it's a masterpiece.

    This game is beyond amazing. I've replayed and beat this game over 20 times. This game is very scary and intense. With new game play mechanics we didn't see in the previous installments, it was such a surprise. Even though this game didn't offer the boring slow zombies, it did offer amazing and scary new enemies. Very happy I've played this game during my childhood.

    This installment of Resident Evil changed a bit, and introduced more modern characters that move a lot faster, and it was a great update to a series that has been fantastic since Sega Genesis. This game does not disappoint and like all of the main Resident Evil's(Survivor not included) dominate the ratings. You'll enjoy this game until the very end. Also like all Resident Evil games,This installment of Resident Evil changed a bit, and introduced more modern characters that move a lot faster, and it was a great update to a series that has been fantastic since Sega Genesis.     My favorite Resident Evil game, and I've been a fan since day one too. Although the zombies have been replaced, the cunning and creepiness this gem brought to the table makes up for staying with old and familiar. Beautiful game.

    Survival horror evolved thanks to this game, the third person shooting system just just awesome.

    I was very happy to discover this game for my console back in 2006. It was one of the first games I did play on PS2. I love the whole franchise, but this game is something special. The first game I saw PS2 new features like button combinations during cutscenes and vibro-effects. I liked the game so much that I completed it more then 10 times during one year.     So, the long awaited sequel to Resident Evil 3 is finally upon us - and it certainly is the treat that it promised to be. I have to admit, in the build up to the release of this game, I was worried. I was hearing all sorts of rumours, from this being more like Devil May Cry than previous Resident Evil games, to the complete dropping of the staple Resident Evil monster - the zombie.So, the long awaited sequel to Resident Evil 3 is finally upon us - and it certainly is the treat that it promised to be. I have to admit, in the build up to the release of this game, I was worried. I was hearing all sorts of rumours, from this being more like Devil May Cry than previous Resident Evil games, to the complete dropping of the staple Resident Evil monster - the zombie. However, I knew that Capcom weren't a gaming company that is in the habit of letting me down, so I decided to pass these ridiculous rumours off as hearsay, and therefore false. Imagine my surprise then when they turned out to be true, and imagine my increased surprise when they actually turned out to be worthy changes! The loss of the zombies, for example, is a big loss; but their replacement - mad villagers, is definitely a worthy one and it makes for a very nice change! In fact, all of the monsters in the game are brilliantly designed and help to make the game even more of a pleasure to play. The gigantic bi-pods, for example, are a particular highlight; as are the very odd 'regenerators' that come complete with their own unique and ingenious method of dispatch!

    One thing I really love about this game is the amount of movie tributes that it has in it. From The Evil Dead style camera towards the beginning, to the King Kong-esquire way the giant monster is introduced, all the way down to the Night of the Living Dead shootout in an old abandoned hut - the game is a treasure indeed! The choice of lead character - Leon Kennedy - wasn't the best idea in my opinion. While I have nothing against the guy, Leon has always struck me as one of Capcom's less interesting creations and I would much rather have followed the escapades of Barry Burton or Leon's Resident Evil 2 co-star Claire Redfield than Mr Kennedy...but never mind. The story is entirely different from anything we've seen in Resident Evil before, but it actually serves the game quite well and it's always interesting enough to keep you hooked. The way that the Capcom have opted to change to a more arcade style adventure than previous games represents a change for the worse, as it makes the game far too easy and cuts out many of the staples of the series - things such as backtracking and the great feeling you get when you find that all important green herb or another case of handgun bullets. Now you always know that there's more items just around the corner and you don't really feel the same fear that previous games instilled so well.

    However, despite it's major flaw, Capcom have once again succeeded in creating a magnificent gaming experience. While Resident Evil 4 isn't as gripping or as difficult as it's earlier counterparts, this is still a great video game and a prime reason for owning a Gamecube. Highly recommended!    … Expand

    This one of my Favorite game of all time. This game had a new story, new gameplay, great graphics. The cutscenes were great . this Resident Evil wasn't like the previous ones. This was less Horror more action and more fun to play

    One of the greatest games of all time. Although the PS2 version is the second most inferior version of the game (second only to the original PC port), it is still fundamentally the same game. As Resident Evil 4 has been ported countless times to various consoles, there is not excuse not to play it.

    This is the best game for ps2, that I have played. I've unlocked everything, worked the glitches, everything and it is still fun to play after all of that, speed running is great. You beat the game once and your unstoppable if you have the cash for your reward that is. That's the only detractor I see, but then beat pro mode, then you really have done something.     Simply one of the best action games ever. It has incredible atmosphere and aesthetics, and delivers a frightening and intense experience. So much fun to play time and again; once you beat it, you just want to play it over again. The combat mechanics are amazing, the enemies are unique and varied, and the plot, while a little bizarre sometimes, is nonetheless engaging.     One of the best PS2 games. Atmosphere, graphics, sounds, is really good. Not like the old Resident Evil games are among my favorite games.To me, the Resident Evil series is the last good game. Other games really doesn't suit to the Resident Evil series.

The weak aspect (the story and its dialogue) fall under this "so bad that its good" style that isFor all intents and purposes, Resident Evil 4 is the magnum opus of the Resident Evil series. The way its atmosphere was dark, sinister and full of fear was a testament to its time and it reworked its gameplay from previous titles to perform groundbreaking genre defining reactions is superb. The weak aspect (the story and its dialogue) fall under this "so bad that its good" style that is able to transmute well with the tension and horror that made the weakness almost unnoticeable for me to care. The combat and tension was master crafted and made survival horror a gold standard alongside Silent Hill 2 during the early 2000s. The enemies and bosses, the death scenes, the atmosphere, the music and so much more made RE4 one of the best games of all time for me and that will never change.… Expand

The Action is Awesome, the puzzles are amazing, and the game is scary. The Mechanics Before mentioned forcing you to stand still while shooting makes every shot matter. As I've said before in my other reviews, Horror games succeed when they strip you, the player, of your power. It was incredible to me how much of this game I had remembered from my original teenage playthrough of this game. every corner I turned I felt a sense of flashback remembering what was to come. Res 4 throws tons of extra content at you making it well worth your time, effort, and money. I couldn't recommend this game enough to any fan of any style of game. Ashly can get a bit annoying at times, but that can be forgiven with the amount of fun you'll have playing the game.

    I originally believed that no game is perfect and deserving of a perfect score, however: if I believe that way, a Score of 9 becomes the Perfect Score. Therefore I'm giving Resident Evil 4 my first Perfect Score. 10/10

    This is the best PS2 game of all time and recommend it to all RE fans. It has good gameplay ( like innovative puzzles, creepy enemies and good over-the-shoulder camera), amazing soundtrack, visually impressive graphics for a PS2 game and a Badass Leon Kennedy.

    Easily the best in the series to this day. Going into a third person root with new and creative elements such as a fun shooting mechanic, and intense frighting designs that kept me hooked 'til the very end.

    This is the pinnacle of gaming. My all time number one favorite game. Rarely do I go out of my way to 100% a game, resident evil 4 is definitely an exception. I have lost count as to how many times I have returned to indulge myself in this masterpiece over the years.
