The game looks ten times more impressive that its predecessor, and really outshines almost any other console first-person shooter on the market right now. Explosions look extremely realistic, and the enemies are modeled and rendered pretty well.
-
Looks so much better than its predecessor that it's hard to believe there's any kinship between the two. Everything has improved.
-
Although not terribly original or revolutionary, Red Faction II is a terrific game with lots of action.
-
The single-player campaign is a blast, but will leave you wishing that it was longer.
-
Cheat Code CentralAnd then there are times when you can just blow the hell out of virtually anything just for the hell of it. It's a hell of a game. Hell. Hell. Hell. Hell. Damn I like typing "Hell."
-
RFII isnt a landmark game or an astoundingly innovative one, but it sure is a lot of fun to play.
-
We're still reduced to a four-player split-screen mode for multiplayer, but the gaming is solid and fast-paced.
-
TotalGames.netRF II is, indeed, a good game, it just isnt quite as great or ground-breaking as the first one was despite all its new bells, whistles and a slightly unnecessary squad system.
-
"Timesplitters 2" will appeal more to those who were into "Perfect Dark" or 007 types of games. Red Faction II will appeal more to those who like games such as "Halo."
-
Game InformerGeo-Mod technology is a beautiful, beautiful thing. For some strange reason, blowing away an entire wall to get to an enemy cowering in the corner of a storeroom just feels good. [Dec 2002, p.110]
-
It's still great, but I felt that the original Red Faction was a bit more engaging.
-
An enjoyably brainless, highly destructive romp. It doesn't offer anything new but it does do everything well. [PSM2]
-
Great action and great weapons carry this game far.
-
GameNowIntense. [Dec 2002, p.63]
-
Its visual presentation is amazing and the gameplay is even better. If not for the progression-stilting level design this could be a contender for game of the year.
-
A must for all those who liked the original, as they'll find in Red Faction II a similar yet much more intense experience.
-
Red Faction II does an excellent job combining the crucial elements of a first person shooter, but if you don't look at the box cover you could reasonably get this game confused with almost any other FPS in a modern setting.
-
Entertainment WeeklyA satisfying entry in a genre that could use a little rebellion of its own. [22 Nov 2002, p.85]
-
The sophisticated AI and epic gun battles keeps the gameplay exciting even though there are a few poor level designs.
-
PSM MagazineThere's no doubt RF2 comes from an entirely different generation of software. [Dec 2002, p.48]
-
Its worth the cash only if youre an FPS junkie without access to a Nintendo 64 or XBox, where Perfect Dark and Halo provide everything that Red Faction II clumsily attempts to incorporate.
-
A solid story, sharp graphics, excellent audio, great gameplay, vehicles, super weapons, a variety of environments, and topnotch multiplayer action (not to mention the ability to blow up walls) all make this revolution something to shout about.
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineIf you were a fan of the original, you'll more likely than not find that this sequel serves you adequately... [just d]on't be surprised if something doesn't feel quite right. [Dec 2002, p.168]
-
These shifts in the gameplay keep it fresh most of the way through, and the excellent visuals keep you coming back for more.
-
In truth, despite giving the gamer a huge arsenal, pleasant gameplay diversions and dressing it up in shiny new clobber, RFII doesnt take us anywhere we havent been before, and plays by the FPS rulebook for the most part.
-
Play MagazineImproving upon the original in almost every way - story needs some work - Red Faction 2 is awesome. [Dec 2002, p.54]
-
Far too short, but is enough of a thrill ride that we really don't mind. This is one of the best FPS available for any console system.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyA really good game. The brighter, more varied environments range from nice-looking to simply beautiful. [Dec 2002, p.216]
-
The sequel just seems to abandon all of what I thought made the original unique and special, and has in effect become just another pretty face in a crowded genre.
-
The Geo Mod engine provides mere window dressing to what is nothing more than your standard FPS, complete with big freaking guns and explosions.
