Game InformerIt's this mixture of personality and content that earns Radiata Stories a place among Square Enix's greatest adventures, and certainly the best straight-up RPG so far this year. [Oct 2005, p.132]
-
A fun, bright and colorful world filled with lots of oddballs and cut-ups that make the overall presentation a lot of fun to play through - despite the actual role-playing being an average experience.

netjakYou have to play it twice (or save the game before a certain junction) to truly take in the entire dynamic story. Don't ever doubt the value of a good Japanese RPG...this is the kind of offering that will allow it to continue to shine as its own genre.
-
What the game does offer instead is a cute fantasy with intriguing twists (even if you have to sift through the crazy nonsense to get there), and a butt load of characters that can be yours if you seriously want to endure the exerting challenge of grabbing as many of them as you possibly can.
-
With a decent soundtrack, excellent voice acting and a graphic style that was printed from a picture book, Radiata Stories pulls its great character development and cheery sense of humor together to become a wonderfully enjoyable role-playing experience.
-
Much like the rest of tri-Ace's games, Radiata will certainly form a hardcore cult following, but it might not catch on in the mainstream. There are many unique touches to Radiata that the rest of the role playing genre, or even all games, could learn from, but not everything is executed perfectly.
-
Radiata's presentation is so undeniably beautiful and it's combat engine so flexible, that it's easy to overlook its shortcomings (especially if you let the characters and their charming personalities win you over).
-
Radiata Stories has its share of hilarious moments and never takes itself too seriously, inspiring a perverse sort of curiosity as to what the characters will get themselves into next.
-
Radiata Stories has a fair amount of replay value to back it up. It has 175 recruitable characters, and if you go through both scenarios, you’ll have about 30 hours of gameplay, assuming you don’t get lost.
-
The game is a bit short if you try to breeze through it without doing any of the side quests, but when you take everything into account, it should take about 40 hours or so to complete.
-
It is definitely not for snobby role-playing twits. However, there is still a lot of fun to be found and this game should be given a fair shake.
-
I can’t say enough about how much I truly found myself enjoying Radiata Stories. The branching story is both captivating and laced with clean humor, the combat is largely entertaining and packed with adequate depth, and the audiovisual presentation can hang with any RPG thrown up against it.
-
Games are games, and Radiata succeeds at being one more than anything else. It’s a highly enjoyable, recommendable RPG that should maybe keep you busy until "Dragon Quest VIII" comes out.
-
While the world, characters and dialog are all of top quality, the game's story never manages to be compelling.
-
Aside from the goofball characters and silly dialogue, Radiata Stories is a pretty average role-playing game. However, it's one you'll want to play, if only for the beautifully crafted world, compelling characters, and off-the-wall humor.
-
A solid RPG title. Though it has a slow moving and cliché story, the characters do well to provide an entertaining environment.
-
Radiata Stories is a game that coasts on charm and stirs up some clever ideas. Like its hero, however, it's too slow, simple, and obvious to overcome its routine existence.
-
Unfortunately, the game takes way too long to come together. The result is slightly reminiscent of "Fable" and "Suikoden"--and too disjointed.
