The game moves at a slower pace, with a lot of cutscenes and dialogue advanced to get players through to the action. The game does have charm though, and the battle is handled very well indeed.

Play MagazineIf you manage to stay the course and get past Radiata Stories' early rough spots, you'll find an engaging adventure beneath the goofy exterior. [Sept 2005, p.54]
-
I'll take a well-meaning comedy with a few mishaps over standard RPG melodrama. [Oct 2005, p.103]
-
Fortunately the world in Radiata Stories is vast, with lots of quests and people to find. It's also gorgeous in it's own artistic way and complex with a fully integrated time system.
-
A breath of fresh air filled to the brim with colorful characters and corny situations. In fact, you could think of Radiata Stories as the sitcom of role playing games. It's not quite as deep, but it's entertaining in small doses.
-
It has good ideas - all of which have been attempted before - and executes them in a way that leaves the title covered in mediocrity at best.
-
Dazzles with its visuals, but ultimately falls short of being truly memorable due to its dragging plot and button-mashing combat.
-
games(TM)It's hardly a stunning RPG or an essential purchase but Radiata Stories is a charming, entertaining and compelling adventure, nonetheless. [Dec 2005, p.104]
-
Computer Games MagazineThe story and setting have some charm, and there's plenty of content along the way. [Dec p.90]
-
A mixture of a quality style, fun story, great characterization, and gameplay that's crippled by absolutely baffling design.
-
There's a lot of charm in it, not to mention the gobs of replay value that come from having two endings and over 175 recruitable characters. At the same time though, that charm does little to ease the blow of the unsatisfying conclusions, nor does it help much when you run into one of the few rough patches and, let's face it, there's only so many inane sidequests one can tolerate.
-
Radiata Stories is an entertaining and oftentimes humerous game that does a fantastic job in terms of overall presentation, yet delivers a somewhat sterile, mediocre gameplay experience.
-
PSM MagazineRadiata's core charm is hidden under too many layers of lightweight chatter and too little real substance. [Dec 2005, p.104]
-
While its story is interesting and its gameplay is serviceable, this RPG didn't thrill me, or frustrate me, or enrage me. Radiata Stories just shared my general area for a while, and now that it's gone, I don't miss it.
-
When all is slashed and looted, Radiata Stories is an unremarkable RPG whose stabs at innovation end up feeling rather inconsequential. It's perfectly playable and is not a bad game, but it lacks any real hook or draw.
-
While the level of exploration and interaction is nowhere near the quality of later games in "The Legend of Zelda" series, Radiata Stories offers several genuinely humorous moments, a colorful world, and a cast of characters that stick with you long after you’ve powered down the PS2.
