"Warrior Within" is an entertaining, but strange sequel to "The Sands of Time". Featuring a dark heavy metal look and sporting an 'M' rating, it was meant to be an edgy action game. Featuring a dark heavy metal look and sporting an 'M' rating, it was meant to be an edgy action game. This was released when Grand Theft Auto was at its most popular. At the time, video game companies wanted to appeal to the masses by being more "adult". This meant creating anti-heroes, sexual content and piling on the bloodshed. Ubi Soft did all that and more with WW and the result was a good game that was also a miscalculation. Despite the extreme change in art direction, "Warrior Within" is fun. While the combat system isn't the best, the platforming/puzzles are solid. I would rate this with an 8.4 out of 10. Expand

Great continuation of The Sands of Time. It keeps the good platforming and improves the combat.

This game is wonderful. The combat is amazing and the music puts the icing on the cake. The story is very intresting and the characters as well. The voice acting was also solid. I don't really find anything wrong with this game and it is my favourite Prince of Persia entry.

One of the best games of 2004. A true masterpiece in terms of plot driven gameplay, amazingly deep combat that was still unmatched, great graphics that still hold up and sweet sweet cutscenes!
A lot better than its prequel, less annoying and more skill based.

Excellent soundtrack and gameplay is very exciting. The enemies of this game and the characters have a very good characterization. I hope Ubisoft will rebuild this game.

I reckon this is the best adventure game of all time. I love the Uncharted series and I like the new Tomb Raider's very much but Prince of Persia was absolutely better than both. I hate the new Ubisoft games because they're so boring & repetitive but PoP was so unique & varied. Warrior Within is my favourite part of this series.

The core time control and platforming mechanics that made the Prince’s first PS2 title such a joy remain for this sequel, and this time around the developers have also created a much more fluid combat system to add into the mix. The move away from the whimsical ‘Aladdin’ style fantasy of the original into much darker territory however means that, while this is still a very good game, it’s just not quite as an enjoyable experience as The Sands of Time.

Much better than the first one and, in my opinion, the best in this saga. Lot of combos, lot of weapons, nice platforming. In the end, very good game.

The sharp turn towards an edgy and gritty sequel to Sands of Time may not have worked to its utmost benefit. Combat is improved with greater enemy and weapon varieties. Yet there's a sense that the gloom and doom of Warrior Within offers a palpably staler experience than its fantastical prequel.

Improved in all gameplay to his predecessor, a more adult and dark story at the same time and a soundtrack that is perfect for that environment. Many complained about this but honestly I think it would have been disastrous to have done as a sequel to a variant of the first game, this change endowed it with originality and renewal.

Wasn't as good as the Sands of Time, followed the same formula as the first one but with a different tone that imho didn't do it justice.

Here is the thing. Technically this game is a mess, Warrior withing gave me so much headaches with it terrible bugs that I almost went crazy, and that alone is the only reason I don't give this game a 10. Bugs, bugs, bugs, bugs every fu@#$ing where...
Corrupted save games, impossible to finish the games and had to restart all over again... God how this game was BUGGED.

But then I love it... Warrior within sets a visceral and a darker prince with an incredible level design and smart gameplay mechanics with OUTSTANDING soundtrack and blowing mind plot. Literally!

"One step closer prince, two steps back"... I finished this game 12 years ago and it keeps fresh in my head just like the first videogame I played in my life, Pitfall for Atari, it is one of those games will you never forget because it is epic... it is just epic.

You can get through the game on hard mode by basically skipping 90% of the fights, using a couple exploitable combos, or just mashing buttons and hope for the best. Unfortunately when I played my character had a tendency of running up a wall and jumping at my enemies, then falling off a cliff. I think the real issue is blocking. In the first PoP blocking couldn't be done without finishing the animation of a jump or slash, they pretty much did the same thing in this game. Blocking should completely cancel the attack like in all the other combo games. Another problem was the environment. I enjoyed the environments in the first game. You get the nice Arabian Palace theme with nice friendly colors. But instead you are in a darker palace with this dark beast chasing you down half the time while playing Godsmack. I llike Godsmack but I don't think it's good for a player friendly game... Expand

So overall, for me, it was an unworthy sequel of the Sands of Time, I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't. I wouldn't recommend it, not even if you've played other Prince of Persia games and enjoyed them, this one is no where near as good as the other games in the series. Expand

This game is garbage. Let me start by saying I didn't mind the darker style, I think it could have worked. However, the game itself was so poorly made that the team responsible should be sacked. Even Sands of Time had deeper combat thanks to it's varied enemies! The movement puzzles are awful and the fixed cameras always hide the thing you need to see. The stages are poorly designed- going through he same environments over and over again is repetitive and boring. There is hardly any story development until after you become the Wraith, so you spend most of the game walking around with nothing interesting happening. Also, having an alternate ending is dumb- it's a story-driven trilogy, so it needs to set up the next game with it's ending! Who wants to find all the life upgrades when the game is so dull and boring that you want to spend as little time playing it as possible? Basically, if you loved Sands of Time you'll hate this, not because of the style but because of the gameplay. I gave it a 2 for the excellent cut-scenes and voice acting. Expand

Giving that this was the weakest element of the last game, its certainly questionable. While there are more combos, there isnt really much incentive to experiment because hack and slash will suffice. It retains the qualities of the previous game but it shoves everything that was likeable about the first game into the shadows. The soundtrack is awful, consisting of rubbish european rock music. Ubisoft took a gamble by taking the Prince to a dark place. I don't think it paid off as the sense of magic, seen even in the old 2D PC days, is barely present here. It wasn't the wrong decision to make for a darker story, but Ubisoft took it too far.
  2. The gameplay is visceral, fast, and fun, the graphics and sound are incredible, and the story is so well conceived and written that it'll keep you coming back for more.
  3. Exploring the labyrinthine citadel is rewarding, although backtracking and frequent deaths can be frustrating.
