You know youre in trouble when it takes you five times to get through the first training level of a game, and it freezes on the second.
-
Da GameboyzOni has definitely redefined the action game genus; it may have created a new genre.
-
Oni manages to compensate for dull graphics, empty interiors, lengthy load times and unfriendly saves with intense action and impressive enemy AI. The game is fun, challenging, worth the frustration and is a splendid addition to your PS2 collection.
-
Slick looking, sharply packaged, and a heroine who really packs a punch with a razor edge style: Oni is a game in its own realm when it comes to looks.
-
Daily RadarThere's refreshingly little emphasis on lever pulling or jumping puzzles -- someone out there is listening.
-
As far as the controls go though... oh, boy. Let me say that the control configuration is incredibly difficult as every button is used frequently including the never used L3 and R3 buttons.
-
The entire game takes place indoors, with only a few moments spent alongside and atop the building complex. I would have preferred to also battle in detailed outdoor environments. Think of some of the jaw-dropping fighting sequences in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."
-
Spank!Unlike many of today's action-girl heroes Konoko isn't all about big boobs and tight butt-cheeks. In contrast to a certain someone she spends the game firmly ensconced in kevlar body armour and combat fatigues.
-
It's rough around the edges in some spots, and can become infuriatingly difficult at times, but if you stick with it, you'll probably get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
-
Although the game's design and combat system do not always dazzle, Oni is a sublime break from the ordinary.
