This feels way more like real hockey than the arcadey, gimmicky junk we've had to swallow in the past. Just a few more tweaks here and there, and EA's NHL will be the coolest game on ice once again. [Oct. 2006, p.87]
  2. The Dynasty mode is still a blast, even though it isn’t entirely new. And the core gameplay mechanics cannot be beat. The new stick passing gives players so much more control over the puck.

The controls are tight, especially shooting. We would like to see the checking system tweaked a bit so players aren't so magnetic. Great puck physics make for exciting, organic goal scoring.

The bad news--if you're jonesing to light the lamp with the new Skill Stick, well, you can't--only passing is allowed in the PS2 version, which leaves us feeling like we got the shaft. [Holiday 2006, p.86]
  5. PSM3 Magazine UK

    A hugely enjoyable sim. [Oct 2006, p.87]
  6. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the versions of NHL 07 not made for the next generation of consoles offer little in the way of new content.
  7. Those who have never laced up and assisted on a one-timer in real life might be able to look past all the faults of NHL 07, but you'd have to be blind to ignore them all. With any luck, this franchise will move on to the PS3 and improve, and never look back.

The only thing that I'm not happy with is when you are going to hit somebody, their played is like a magnet to you and its trippy. I'd give it a 9 out of 10. Expand

Why is it every year where they improve one area they neglect or completely omit another? The interface is slow, and very sloppy, with very little stats depth or ability to locate players for trades and so forth. The create player is made instantly useless since you HAVE to choose a pointless and silly nickname that the commentators will use. Gameplay HAS improved and the feel of passing and controller layout is much improved but for those looking for simulation hockey, keep looking. It is rediculously easy to score (even on Difficult, with defense setting on high, and shot accuracy on low). Even with the worst teams in the league it is almost impossible NOT to score at least 5-6 goals a game and the goaltending is mostly terrible. I haven't enjoyed this franchise since 2004 and wonder if this is just another afterthought for EA. Expand

NHL07 has nothing on NHL06 in my eyes. (PS2) Bought and returned it. I'll stick to NHL06 until NHL08 comes out. EA should of just NHL07 has nothing on NHL06 in my eyes. (PS2) Bought and returned it. I'll stick to NHL06 until NHL08 comes out. EA should of just tweaked NHL06, they were close in making the ultimate hockey game. I found NHL07 to be to easier to score,to get penalties and the gameplay just wasn't the same as NHL06. I was excited to get NHL07 then disappointed in the same hour. I gave it a chance and even played on-line but it just didn't compare to NHL06. One thing EA should do is watch how goalies play the puck. They cut down angles, poke check and smother the puck. They just don't stand their when a player cuts in front or when a pass slide through the crease. These small things can make goalies a little more challenging and stop the easy deke's that everyone can score on on-line play. NHL06 was the best sense NHL94, and I've owned everyone in between. Just my opinion...thanks. Expand

You can barely shoot from the blue line, the puck practically misses the goal every time. The defense was weak on NHL 06, but now they've made all the defensemen psychic! They can tell right away that you're about to get a shot off even before you have a chance to wind up! All in all, a steamin' turd of a game. Expand
