This game is the most awesome RPG game I've ever played! Cool storyline, fun mini-games, and unique "outlaw" system which had been inherited from the previous games in the metal max series. What's more, the graphics are fancy though pixelated, which I think is very decent and great for a 2005 ps2 game. The soundtracks are definitely masterpieces. This game is one of my favourite, the very silly elements the series has, the music and Bounty hunting system are all making me crave for more. 10/10

Metal Saga is a sandbox RPG which gives the player a lot of freedom, has a very nice soundtrack, interesting world setting and on point humor. It's a game both merciless and merciful, because although you're very likely to engage tough enemies you're not prepared to fight with ease, should you die, there is no game over, you can be resurrected how many times you want. It's a game both merciless and merciful, because although you're very likely to engage tough enemies you're not prepared to fight with ease, should you die, there is no game over, you can be resurrected how many times you want. Now, the problems: it lacks voiced lines (and I mean it, no one has voice in this game) and it's packed with a frustrating amount of loading times, even moving between two areas that share the same textures! This game was meant to the older model of PlayStation 2 and is one of the very few titles to support HDD installation but, by the time it was launched, the "Slim" model was already the most popular model of PS2. There is a side-quest to search for 80 "Big Medals", but two of them are glitched (if you pick up one, the other disappears), and this bug exists in all versions of the game. I highly recommend to play it on an emulator to get rid of the annoying amount of loadings but, whatever method you play Metal Saga, it is worth checking. There are not many games like the ones from Metal Max series. Expand

It is the game "with soul". I freaking love it.
It's quite sad that this game is so underrated.
    The best rpg ever.

This game is crazy. You will easily believe in tomatoes with knives in a post-apocalyptic wastelands, simply just because the plot allows it. All games limit themselves in many ways, but not this game. Everything can be in this game and it will not break the atmosphere, that's seems geniusly for my point.

Unlike the 2 (4) firsts entries in the series this one is bland and unbalanced. Not much to do in the world, story is almost unexisting and the difficulty curve is railroading the player thorough the game. The olny real freedom is to choose where you go back to grind. Metal Max Returns has state of the art pixel arts. The 3D in low-resolution kinda killed the beauty of it all.

The battle system is well ordinary, the plot i can't rate due to not being able to find one yet, graphics are dated and sound is dated. overall not even worth a rent.

Great game in a fantastic series of games. Sadly, ignored in the west but Japan has been turning out Metal max games since 1991. Roam the world in a fleet of pinpoint accurate tanks - drive a German Tiger and Maus tank (only 2 were built and they were very heavy but could go underwater), and customise your tanks with an awesome painting option. There's never a shortage of funny. It's refreshing to play an RPG that doesn't take itself too seriously. [May 2006, p.80]

Metal Saga is like a bastard mash-up of Mad Max and Lawrence of Arabia...tanks, deserts, and a post-apocalyptic future that manages to be super boring. [May 2006, p.101]
