It's pretty elementary and it won't take you very long, but at $20 it's a good starter option for the young race fans in your life, who should get quite a few hours of enjoyment from it. [Feb 2005, p.83]

Good fun - nothing more, nothing less. [Feb 2005, p.113]

It boasts a good sense of speed and decent visuals, while offering an entertaining, although simple and uninspired, number of tracks and stunt challenges. The actual stunts in the game could use work.
  4. The length may be meager by other raging game standards, but what's here packs enough of a wallop to entertain even adults for a while.

Slam it in reverse unless you're entertained by rolling quarters across a sunlit floor.
  6. When you factor in how little this game really differs from any of the last few games in the line, there's really no good reason to go out and buy it.
  7. It's not unplayable, so I can't go much lower than a 59. This is the most wonderful time of the year, however. Do you really want to be playing a game that's playable but isn't most wonderful?

There's nothing so captivating about this game that a rental can't dispel. It's too bad you can't rent games by the minute.

I think it's clear to me that this game was made with some love. The tracks are designed in such a fun way thematically, and the soundtrackI think it's clear to me that this game was made with some love. The tracks are designed in such a fun way thematically, and the soundtrack really ties it all together. Dino, Spider and Pirate tournaments are easily the best ones out of the bunch, however, Lava, the last tournament, does feel a bit more generic and uninspired in comparison, just more of the same things with a slight different coat of paint, which is a shame as it should've been the 'climax' of the tournaments.
The sense of speed is also satisfactory (greater than some other HW titles on the PS2). The car selection is also good, it's got some iconic HW cars of the era.
It's a short game, can be finished in around 2-3 hours at most, but that works on its favor. It's a short, sweet experience; can get a little repetitive, though.
