Everyone out there seems to be some what disappointed about Gt4. GT4 is what GT3 could have been. Gt3 was great, but Gt4 is greater. Some people moan about graphics that it is similar to Gt3. In fact, there are only handfull of games that support 1080i, and GT4 is only one for PS2. I cannot believe that developers pulled 1080i with 60fps on PS2! I don't think Forza will be able to do that. (they downed to 30 fps already.) It's beutiful to look at. Gameplay is still solid racer. B-spec mode is great when you get tired for races. I let cpu do the race while I go have a cig or catch Sportscenter. When I come back, I get money. Overall sound seems better than gt3. Music seems to be more suiting for racing than Gt3. So many people complain about the car damage. Have people played NFS: High Stakes? In simulation, it's pain in the butt to fix your car after every race. AI racers are good racers with precision, but rather dumb when it comes to competiting. Only one mode that I miss is online mode. I'm not really into online experience with consoles, but I was hoping gt4's sell-your-car mode can help. However, it doesn't interfere with car collecting frezy gt4 has to offer. If you love cars, get it. I was getting chills when I saw Delorean in the DMC shop! Too bad it doesn't have as much as european cars and american cars as I hoped for, but there is a car for almost everyone's taste. Muscles, Exotics, Rice rockets, even cars like Ford T, and Mercedez' first car. It's a great game, but not a truest simulation. Physics is still the best I've seen. It even improved over Gt3. Cars feel heavy like they should be and some cars like NSX understeers and some oversteers. Truest simulations are way too difficult to enjoy through TV screen and GT4 is a fun sim to let you enjoy cars. Stop complainin and enjoy! Expand

You can't beat Gran Turismo for a quality blend of simulation and arcade feel, quality track and car models, and the sheer scope of the game. I've learned here, that ultra-realism doesn't usually equal ultra-fun. If I had unlimited free time to practice driving, I could probably get pretty good at this one in like 6 months or so. At that point, this game would probably be a lot of fun. If you're incarcerated for some reason, give it a try (provided the doctors/prison guards let you have a tv and a console). The tracks in the game bring back memories as the game features "original" tracks like the High Speed Ring, and more "real" tracks summon the great experience. New features like the Photo Mode and the B-Spec Director's Mode are welcome additions to GT4. However, the simplicity of the additions can leave the Photo Mode as recreation and the B-Spec as a timesaver. The layout of the game is gorgeous, but the grand prominence of white isn't always that pleasing to the eyes. Expand

The amount of content in the game from the over 800 cars to the numerous amount of tracks to choose from, this game doesn't ever get boring. One thing that bugged me though, was the endurance events, especially the 24hr ones. How do you expect a person to stay up for 24 hours, or 9 if you do directors mode with pit stops? Other than that, this game was and still is a great piece of gaming that doesn't disappoint. Expand

I'm not going to say this isn't a good/great game but i've played a lot of ps2 drive games and feel justified to say it is slightly over-rated. I can definitely recommend that it is a must play or own game for the ps2 confidently however. GT4 feels like an improvement over gt3 however I'm not a fan of the music swap over. I can definitely recommend that it is a must play or own game for the ps2 confidently however. GT4 feels like an improvement over gt3 however I'm not a fan of the music swap over. I suppose if you didn't like the choices available in gt3 more generic music was probably a good idea. That said, I don't believe the audio quality is as far as it could go. Sound effects seem rather bland still it's still that 1995 sound all race games have and the music is not in digital I presume. Just take a listen to the quality of need for speed underground released much earlier and you can see the quality could be better. The options in this game are fantastic however I'm still disappointed more high speed racers aren't available (default) as I prefer going right into arcade mode and racing. I don't want to do sim mode and unlock everything and I don't even know if that's possible because I'm not willing to make this game such a time sink. I score high points to this game for minimal load times and for excellent steering wheel feel. I would like to point out though that in the ps2 library I do feel the flatout series nailed steering wheel feel even better than gt4. I can't complain about the feel however of all ps2 racing games to date that I've played these are the only two series I feel the wheel simulation was worth the purchase. Imo flatout nailed the feel of the terrain and crashes much better (more immersive). With respect to that comparison, gt4 terrain and turns still feel a bit floaty even with a force feedback wheel from where I feel they would be optimal. Graphically it's decent but considering I have an HDTV and I've changed options to 1080p in game with 16:9 aspect it really doesn't seem what one would expect. All in all I find this game really decent but as I mentioned some other race games did better jobs in different areas. That still leaves room for improvement doesn't it, and why I rate this game as 8/10. It's a massive game with lots of choice but even with all those options it didn't rank as my highest scoring race game on the system. With its high quality though it is a game that will stay on my personal library and I highly recommend it to ps2 fans or anyone still into old school. Expand

I've spent half of my life on this game. Despite the lack of Ferrari or Porsche, despite having way too many japanese cars, this game is the best racing game on Playstation 2 and the best Gran Turismo yet. There is so much to learn and to do in this game if you love cars or just driving !

A bad game for this? Absolutely not, but GT4 looks like a GT3 2.0. About its obsolecence, Gran Turismo 4 is just like a GTA upside down. While only graphics on Rockstar's game is dated but playability doesn't, Sony's exclusive is still gorgeous visually, while physics (cars doesn't even damage when hitted for example) is elder. Predecessor game in franchise got the same issues, but I only talked about 4th title because of four years releasing difference. Even for its time, game sins in innovating, what sadly reflected in current days, obfuscating the good and nostalgic experience that player could be Expand

So far still better than Gran Turismo 5 and surely the best installment in the Grant Turismo series.

Gran Turismo 4 is the recipe Polyphony Digital and Sony should stick to, no deviation just refinement. This game had it all including 54 tracks (to date the most tracks of any Gran Turismo game), 721 cars and a career mode that is insanely huge and challenging. I never completed this game which is not a criticism, just a testament to how large the game is. The multiplayer was also great with the car selection being half the fun going through 80 manufacturers to pick the best car.

The only problem I had with this game when it came out was its lack of damage, which if included would've made the game a perfect console racer in its day, instead of the only the best. It is still enjoyable to return to approaching a decade after its release which for a car game is testament to the vastness that is Gran Turismo 4.

Best racing game you can get on Playstation 2.

The graphics are great, awesome performance system, good racing/menu music, many interesting cars, and good old and new courses! I like the car sounds too, but it is not the best.

Another thing that i really like is that you can drive in many ways. The licences, missions, rally, a-spec and b-spec, and endurance racing!

This is my very first videogame and the one I grew up with, and it is awesome. The worst things I could find in this treasure is just silly AI in a couple of certain cars, like the Cizeta V16T or the Ginetta G1 (I don't remember more vehicles with this programming mistake right now; there are 721 cars in the game!) and that there are many versions of some Japanese cars that are just the same car (an example is the Nissan Skyline R34), but they're still around 600-675 truly different cars. Also, the fact of it having around 50 tracks existing in the game, and one of them being the full Nürburgring North track (we're talking about over 20 kilometers of virtual road) makes obvious this game fills the DVD up to its 4.3 GBs capacity! Polyphony Digital's outstanding work with this game made my childhood a lot better, so if you got a PlayStation 2, save 1.5MBs in your memory card for this gem. It's worth it, I promise! Expand

I can't recall how many hours I played on the original ps2.
But alone the fact that it's easy to sink another 100 hours with the rpcsx2 into it and alongside some HD mods, 4k resolution, various fixes and so on, into it is just simply due to the fact that this is an outstanding, or simply the best racing game of it's time that even survives it past it's console life and any other game
