The characters are absolutely charming, each one has their own story, they are full of charisma. What fascinated me most about the story was that it was told by the protagonist himself. This character, Tidus, uses this type of narration (in the first person) to reflect his feelings, emotions and thoughts in every situation, which enriches the development of the plot. In conclusion, this video game surpasses excellence and is my favourite game of all time. Expand

I desperately want to give this game a ten, there are so many aspects of this game that are the best in the series. The party is stellar, the romance is captivating, and the combat mechanics are flawless. But those damn Cloister Trials really hold it back for me, most puzzles just aren’t my thing, except for Portal.

Also making tidus the protagonist was a fantastic move as he is new to the world so therefore you will be as surprised as he is if there is a twist in the game. The worldbuilding is so great, making it linear allows it to be more focused on story and characters, and that works well. Also the cast actually has chemistry with each other, which I find is something JRPGS often struggle with.

The soundtrack is fantastic, and works amazingly with the game. Everything about this game is amazing, and even though the voice acting is not too convincing, you have to remember that this is a product of its time. And for a ps2 game the graphics are miles ahead of games like devil may cry, god of war, and others.

There will never be a game that surpasses the story of this one, never ever.

It has the best (more humane) story writing and character development. Everything hits really close.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For better or worse, this is a work that has reduced the degree of freedom and has become a game that is only about the story. However, the storyline was so well crafted and the freedom in terms of ability development made it a monumental work of art, and it will still be talked about decades later as the last genuine masterpiece of offline Final Fantasy.

The climax of the game is still unforgettable, and I have never experienced such a hot and sad scenario as the one that leads to the opening of the game and the true identity of Tidas.I was twisted and turned by its overwhelming story, I have no complaints.

But if I had to say what Final Fantasy could rival this one, it would be the online Final Fantasy 14 Shadow Bringers.

Sakaguchi's last Final Fantasy, and the last great final fantasy game. The move to full 3D definitely comes with a lot of losses here. Gone is the world map. Even without that, the individual levels are far more linear, the number of NPCs is reduced. The comedy also doesn't work nearly as well with this format as it did with the style of 7, 8 and 9.

However, the move to full 3D allows for great scenery, and more importantly, a more personal attachment with the characters. And thats a good thing because the characters are fantastic here, as is the story. There's still a lot of JRPG weirdness, but this might be one of the tightest, most emotional, stories in the franchise.

This is also the height of the turn based combat system and the leveling system. Both the sphere grid and the ability to move characters in and out are exceptional additions. And the gameplay would only go downhill from here.

I have picked up plenty over the years, but none of them have captivated me enough to warrant follow through to completion; FFX even fell into this camp up until this most recent playthrough. There was probably a bit of younger me ADHD at play before, but actually completing this game feels substantial just for the simple fact that it is my first in the genre.

Obnoxious foreword aside, there aren't many games I can think of where a story has grabbed me quite the way X did. Every character had their purpose, but the heart and soul of this game is the relationship that unfolds between Tidus and Yuna. Their story and dynamic is what pulled me through this game, and I'm sure I am far from alone in feeling that way. The winding road of this game brought upon all the emotions. Happiness, anger, sadness. Tears were definitely had along this journey

I think the thing with JRPGs that tends to make me shy away is the anxiety of making the right choices when assigning attribute points to your characters. There was a little bit of that at the beginning for me, but I quickly began to realize that the sphere grid system in this game is actually pretty genius. It made me WANT to engage with it. I wasn't so concerned with min-maxing after realizing fairly quickly that even if you pass something up now, you'll have plenty of opportunity to loop back around later. I adored spending time with that system.

I am a little mad at myself for not completing this game 5, 10 - hell, even 20 years ago because it is just so damn good. At the same time, I am happy that I was able to truly experience this game for the first time as a grown adult, with the emotional maturity that comes with those years. Easy 10/10 for me, not because it's perfect, but because it is significant, and it's impact on me as a person was profound.

The summons (aeons) being able to fight as a playable character was a really cool addition and for me it was the apex of importance of summons.
The game has a lot to explore, extra summons, celestial weapons and extremely difficult boss.
Despite all the good things, the cast of characters is much weaker than that of IX, the protagonist in particular, although I like Tidus he doesn't even come close to Zidane's feet.
And for me the worst of all are the unbearable minigames to get the heavenly weapons, I almost gave up playing the game when the remaster for pc came out remembering them.

I think this game is a masterpiece that all rpg fans should play. A story that excites and entertains with good gameplay, apart from the soundtrack that rocks.

This game has some of the most beautiful, emotional, and evocative music I've ever heard in gaming. Every single piece I hear carries with it old memories and strong emotions. The story is a harrowing tragedy that takes place in Spira, the single most interesting world in any FF game. Every time I play, I'm impressed by the best-selling novel quality of this plot. In 1997 Final Fantasy VII would erupt onto the scene, in 1998 no FF, but we got Xenogears. In 1999, Final Fantasy VIII, 2000 Final Fantasy IX and then this one was released in 2001. Then we would enter the dark ages when they would release fewer games and they would not be as good as these four of the ones released on the SNES. Sure, I sort of liked Final Fantasy X-2, but it seemed some of the things they did in that game were kind of lazy such as not changing the appearances of some of the characters and not really adding a few more locations to explore in Spira. Still, I found that game more enjoyable than Final Fantasy XII (never played XI) which had a combat system I did not care for at all and characters that seemed like rehashes of characters in this particular game. This game is the first entry of a FF game for the PS2 and it was a great entry in my mind. That being said, it was not quite as enjoyable to me as part IX, but that FF game still ranks as my favorite game in the series because it has the look and feel of the old SNES ones, but has a wonderful 3D world crafted around it. This one takes a bit more realistic approach as far as character design, but it works and this one also features actual voices for the characters during cut scenes and all through the adventure.

The story has a young man named Tidus who is the son of a man who was a star blitz ball player (the popular sport of this world). He lives in a city called Zanarkand and his father is missing. He too, has become a star blitz ball player and he is doing his thing when the city comes under assault from this creature called 'Sin'. A man named Auron assists Tidus battle monsters that emerge from Sin and soon the young man is transported away from his home. He awakens in a cold and old abandoned temple where he meets these people who speak a different language and he assists them and soon finds himself washed away again to a small village that is home to a person called a summoner. Soon Tidus joins this girl and her guardians as they go on a quest to Zanarkand to defeat the all powerful Sin as the summoner must go to various temples to gain the power to summon the final Aeon.

This game does a couple of things differently than other FF games as there are several playable characters and like most FF games only a certain number can be in the battle, in this case three. However, what it does differently is that you can switch out characters so that every character can be instrumental in defeating the enemy. This comes in handy as this helps you level up everyone in the party. That is another difference as it incorporates something called a sphere grid as opposed to the normal experience points and level ups. In this one, you traverse a grid to gain more strength, hit points, magic etc. It's great and you can have all your characters powered up to the extreme and using magic. They still retain differences and are unique as each of them uses a different weapon and armor piece. They also have different special attacks called limits so all the heroes are distinct in this one.

So, I enjoyed this Final Fantasy game quite a lot. A lot of people these days like to crap on the character of Tidus, but I thought he was a rather good hero. The main reason for the hate is that stupid laughing scene, which does not encompass but a small fragment of the game. My favorite character though is Auron as he is so mysterious, so cool and so powerful! The villain in this one is a bit different in that it is almost a mindless creature (Sin); however, like many Final Fantasy games a true enemy will be revealed at the end and there is another villain named Seymour who just oozes bad guy from the moment you see him. This game could be considered linear in nature to an extent, but nothing like XIII. Here you actually stop in towns and interact with townsfolk and such, but there is a lot of journeying through different areas. The scenery is nice so I actually liked the way it played out. They remastered the game and I guess it looks better, but it was not as if this one really needed that major of an upgrade as far as graphics. Honestly, the PS2's graphics hold up well as the newer systems simply add more details such as better sweat or stuff like that rather than character models. So, this one would be a great addition to the FF series, too bad it hasn't been as good since it debuted, but FFXV was pretty awesome.

At times, Final Fantasy X can feel like more movie than game, though it is elevated by an incredibly rich narrative and deeply strategic battle system -- both of which help mask the linear world design and the worst crop of side quests and mini-games in any Final Fantasy title.

Anything that would be said about this game would not be enough to express its greatness. It's a tactical masterpiece. The story is a revelation about friendship and sacrifice, and love. Words cannot do it justice, one has to experience it.

The turn based combat is okay, but the presentation of the battles with the camera angles and the unique stuff that happens during story battles makes it fun. I quite liked how each party member was different mechanically, with only Waka using his ranged weapon or a magic user being able to hit flying enemies, or Auron using his strength to shatter armored enemies, whereas Tidus' attacks will bounce off of armor. The Sphere Grid is a fake progression system that has no actual choice or depth involved and only exists to waste your time. The process of filling in a spot on the Grid takes several seconds for what should be a one click operation, and that times adds up when you're filling in the grids of 7 characters.

The game aesthetically looks gorgeous and still holds up, much better than the brown hyper-realistic artstyles that became popular later on. The music is a mixed bag. There are some really good tracks but there are a lot of stinkers that are grating to listen to. The English voice acting is... okay.

The game is disappointing when compared to prior games, as the game is linear. There is no world map. You cannot pilot any vehicles.

As for the story, it's okay. The characters are likeable enough, but the story really stalls out around the half way mark.

You suddenly get transported to another world and you have to find your way out and uncover the truth about what happened to your world. Very compelling story that makes you really feel for the characters. Music is incredible as always for the series. FFX has classic turn-based combat unlike most Final Fantasy games which are active turn based. Engaging, challenging gameplay makes combat rewarding. It's one of those games that you take your time with, or play for hours. Truly a timepiece for the PS2 and beyond. It's considered one of the greatest games of all time. A lot of people mention FF7, but FFX is right up there too. Very few games made me cry like this one did. Such an emotional story and beautiful world that envelops you. Highly recommend trying it to anybody interested in the series. 9.5/10

I wont go into spoilers, but the story has so many twists and turns that I personally believe its the 2nd best story in the franchise, with extremely likable characters and more incredible Nomura designs. Where I think it really shines however is the gameplay and music

Gameplay wise, it is very much a traditional rpg, but one where encounters almost feel like a puzzle. Everyone in Final Fantasy 10 is kind of a glass cannon, so it's really fun to have to work with powerful spells and limit breaks to be able to get through encounters before they do too much damage to you.

Musically the score is done by Nobuo Uematsu, Massashi Himauzu, and Junya Nakano, and I think they all bring something amazing and special to the table, working together incredibly well. The game is great at framing environments through its music, expecially with instances like Thunder Plains

While I think some limit breaks (like mix) are overpowered, its never in a way that distracts from the game. I truly love basically everything about it

My first impressions with this game was pretty low, since I wasn't really a big fan of Turn based combat games. Also, I've tried playing other Final Fantasy games but ended up not finishing them 'cause it didn't grab me like this one did, so I had that same doubt in my mind with this entry as well. My expectations were completely subverted and ended up loving this game instead and had more of an appreciation for games with Turn based combat. The leveling system was a bit confusing the moment the game explained it, but that's just a feeling of being overwhelmed from the amount of information that is handed to you right out the gate. It gets easy to understand as you progress. The main cast of characters went from likeable to lovable, and served great purposes for the story and have interesting backstories and arcs that never failed to compell me. Though, I wouldn't say the same with the villain of the story since he really wasn't intriguing at all and felt very flat as the driving force for the mains to surpass. The story is phenomenal, accompanied by twists and turns that more so enhanced the engagement of the player to the narrative. The graphics for a 2001 game (I played the Ps2 ver.), still holds up to today. It doesn't look like 13 or 15, but it still ain't bad looking. And then the cutscenes... boy those cutscenes were insane..! How the hell did they pull off those cutscenes back in 01??? The people who handled this game in Square literally outdid themselves and are certified wizards of technology. The soundtrack and design is beautiful. From emotional to glorious sounding, it's easily one of my favorite tracks in a game. Overall, the game is amazing. If you're still hesitating to play this game right now, don't be. It's definitely worth your time and it pays off big time. Word of advice though, GRIND. 9/10 would play again. Expand

One of the best old school Final Fantasy games, Tidus is a very charming character, and his romance with Yuna is done perfectly. The story is incredible with some tear-jerking moments and the music is fantastic but the combat mechanics while they are decent, they are also outdated and the grinding can be a little bit annoying. Still, the game holds up pretty well for a turn based JRPG.

This was the last final fantasy game to have a truly amazing story and it was truly a great one. The ending in particular was incredible.
This was also the last final fantasy game to have an absolutely incredible soundtrack. I wouldn't say I like it as much as 4,6,7 or 9 but it's very close to the the being as good as those games. The battle theme is the best battle soundtrack in the franchise in my opinion.
The combat is also the best in the franchise for me. The turn based system flows perfectly and the battle speed is perfect.
Graphically it was also amazing for its time and it still holds up really well today.
As for flaws it does have some questionable diologue and voice acting, it's very sparse though.
It's minigames are for sure one the games biggest flaws. Blitzball for example is absolutely terrible mechanically.
It also doesn't have the traditional airship mechanic where you could actually fly it around whilst a beautiful soundtrack plays in the background.
Some of its bosses are kinda poorly designed as well, however there are some great ones too.

I really liked it but it has some minor flaws. Lets start with the technical stuff. It was a quantum leap in graphics back then. Everything looks beautiful and it was a posterchild for the PS2. Even more for the first time in Final Fantasy history they created 3D landscapes, used facial animations and voice actors for the characters. Another premiere was that the soundtrack was not completely made by Nobuo Uematsu. For those who don't know him he is the composer for Final Fantasy and is a legend in the industry There are even many orchestras that played his scores and pay tribute to him (Some concerts are available on YouTube). The soundtrack is remarkable with a lot of good tracks. The game is set in the world of Spira. Your main character named Tidus is a sport-star in Blitzball (A kind of underwater water polo). After the monster Sin (Think of a Final Fantasy Godzilla like creature) attacked his hometown he finds himself in an unfamiliar situation. He is 1000 years in the future and Sin is a constant menace to civilization. He meets Yuna a female summoner who is on a pilgrimage to stop Sin (For a while because it cant be destroyed entirely. Summoners can defeat it after they finish their journey earning a brief period of peace before Sin reappears). Together with a group of other characters they experience a great adventure. The story itself is really enjoyable with good twists but has some awkward moments (The laughing scene for example). The characters won me easily over. There is a complaint that Tidus has no influence in the story. I disagree as he is the catalyst and driving force. For character development: Instead of direct leveling you earn experience and can move on a huge board called Sphere Grid. You can place the corresponding spheres on it and get stat boost or learn abilities. Each character starts on different places so you have different roles. Also each character has some special skills. The active time turn based battle system is excellent. There are some good battles. There is the most memorable battle in any Final Fantasy game for me. You will certainly die at the first attempt and it was remarkable to puzzle out a strategy. Some other battles were good too. There are a lot of mini games. Some are required to get important items. The main mini game is Blitzball. It is like a sport league. You can hire new players, learn abilities and participate in championships. I enjoyed it a lot but I am in the minority here as most players disliked the mini game. For me I liked the challenge and gameplay. I give you a few tips: The max damage and HP value does not stop at 9999 but you need items with the corresponding expanding ability (up to theoretically 99999). There are ultimate weapons for each character but you must unlock them with 2 additional items obtained in mini games. Some are really difficult (and annoying). So it is easier to buy blank items later on and add the abilities to them. There is much side content for you to do and hidden items. There is a lot of endgame content too. The hardest main story bosses are nowhere near the many additional bosses. Solve the puzzles in the temples when you are there. After a certain event some super bosses roam certain parts of the world. Grinding helps a lot early on and there are some battles where you cant change your characters. A solo battle with Kimahri has good steal-able loot. Level 3 and 4 sphere keys are valuable items. For Blitzball: Wait until you get the airship. A character named Brother is the ultimate player early on and Tidus special ability is nearly unstoppable (learned a few hours into the game). Back to the review. There is a hidden language for you to learn. You find new letters and get to understand it more and more. Like I already mentioned the are a few flaws. There are some poor choices in the story and Tidus can be a bit annoying. I disliked some mini games with passion and while the conclusion is fitting it is also a bit of a downer. Overall while it is not my favorite Final Fantasy game it is still really good and the positives outweight the flaws. I recommend it for RPG fans and there is a bundle with Final Fantasy 10-2 available. Expand

-The random encounters are all rock paper scissors fights where you hit really heavy and so do they, so you have to manually heal your party after every single battle

-They hype up this big sports game in the story, then when you finally get to play it, it is a rigged match made for you loose badly in, and then instead of that mattering for the story like they hyped it to, the game disappears into the menu at save spots as an optional minigame

-there are very annoying puzzles with unnecessary menus that pop up anytime you want to do something

-There are very few enemy types, they get reused often and in the same exact combinations

-There are very very cheap enemies that can wipe out your entire party before you even have a turn later on, making them harder than bosses

    -the protagonist is exceedingly dumb

-a sex scene happens completely out of no where with no lead up romance

-there is a race of people who speak a different language, and you find books that teach you one letter each, and you never piece it together. You are supposed to combine the letters your friends have found on the same game system by combining the save files. So you go through the game watching all this dialogue in a different language annoyed that you can't understand it and are missing parts of the story.

-the airship in this game is unusable

-they didn't bother to lip-sync the characters to the english audio

-an entire level where you have to constantly be on edge for lighting to hit you

    -and you can't skip cutscenes

This last point brings me to where I quit. After a 5 minute long cutscene, I was faced with a boss that killed one of my party members before I even had a turn, and then later killed them all in one hit. When you get a game over, it doesn't offer to reload from the start of the fight or the cutscene OR your last save file. It goes back to loading the main menu. You have to click through to prevent the opening movie to play, load your game, walk back to where you were, and sit through the same poorly written, poorly acted cutscene again, only to face the same poorly designed boss.

I truly do not know why this game is highly regarded, I am more disappointed in the community than the game.

    ---> Positive Points:
. Graphics. It's a 7/10. Remember it’s a ps2 game. In the time that the game was released (2001), the graphics were awesome. For example, even today when Yuna dances at destructed seashore village give me chills.

. Leveling system. Different from standard leveling, requires more intelligence to navigate it.

. Lore. It's a 9/10. The concept that sustain the lore is beautiful: a being that haunts humankind and cannot be defeated easily. Besides that the interpretation of Sin realized by the factions in the game shows similarly some approaches of real problems today.
. Soundtrack. The singles "To Zanarkand", "Wandering Flame" and "hymn of the faith" must be in the top 100 video-game songs of all time.

    --> Negative points:

    . Unskippable cut scenes.

. Random encounters battle system. In a J-RPG supposedly the player should explore, but the random encounters move the player in another direction.

. Censorship. In my country, it’s 10 years old censorship. Man, if this final fantasy was 18+ and the authors added some adult stuff like blood and violence. That would improve the lore and experience of a world that mankind isn’t the true ruler a lot. Spira in real life would be pretty violent.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Final Fantasy X is a very linear JRPG with a lot of history, my type of game

The story of this game is very good overall. It already starts in action, with a very good sequence of events. After that she has more of a comedy feel to it (I didn't like it that much) and later it became a very emotional and heavy thing (from the arrival in the first boat village, when Yuna dances, the story starts showing her true face, I started to like it) . But the introduction of the party characters I found was weak, it was very fast and with no time to establish them (Wakka's was the best). The policy in this Final Fantasy is subtle, being directly affected constantly by the party in the course of the story but only in two moments is the party affected by it (I wish there was a little more focus on it).
The way it is told is generally phenomenal, but there are some moments that I thought were not very good. The lore of this world is very good, but if you don't 'search' it extremely deeply, just reading on the internet to understand everything. Another problem is that it is somewhat understood.
It is normal for the part of the revelation about the dream that you 'get lost' a little bit in the story, the screenwriter threw a bunch of questions at once, you already had some and the worst is that even finishing the game some of them are not answered or are implied. Tidus' Zanankard was very poorly explained, they needed to have detailed how certain events were possible in more detail. Besides, for me, his defects are how the screenwriter treated Seymour, the weak introduction of the characters, the drama of Tidus in the city of Al Bhed (I didn't really like the execution), I thought there were too many things implied in this game, both concepts and parts of the story and the way the 'final solution' was simply given to the party I found it weak.
Seymour is a good character with a deep and tragic background. I really liked your role in the story and the wedding arch was pretty cool (one of the best parts of the game). But unfortunately I thought that its potential was wasted by the tiny focus on its history and its goals. What's the use of having a good and thoughtful story if the player doesn't see it (I read it on the internet, I don't know where this information comes from, maybe sidequests)

The characters in the game are good and have a decent amount of interaction between them (I wanted more, but I'm boring with that). The party changed throughout the journey, everyone developing during the journey, some really changed, some had changes in their beliefs and others matured. I would say that mainly Yuna, Tidus and Wakka. Some of the party characters also have 'subarches' of their own in the narrative, but some don't ...

The gameplay surprised me a lot, I could make a graphic remake. It is very deep, fun and keeps you entertained. The camera during combat, although occasionally confused, I liked a lot. Good boss fights, several different mechanics in them. Overdrive was something I found very interesting, a mechanic that makes the game more dynamic and fun. The sphere grid seemed quite absurd at first but in fact they did something phenomenal, evolving your character became fun, challenging and very rewarding (apart from one more interaction with the gameplay by the 'extra' spheres). Blitzball is very complex, which I found interesting since it is only a very secondary thing in the game.

The graphics are decent and a lot is due to the mods so I recommend playing on the PC. But to make this game in its best possible way it took time, I downloaded several mods (texture and reshade), I had to use a patch from the internet to fix a bug in it (green screen), I changed a configuration on my video card and downloaded one app to check the relationship points of the characters. But it was worth it. The cinematics are fantastic, and there are surprisingly high numbers of them. The character model outside the cutscenes has no facial emotion. And Tidus' model itself is very bad (outside of cutscenes). Another thing that bothered me was that at different times the characters cry but the tears don't appear (the player only knows that they are crying because some other character comments on this).

Very good level design and considering the season it is something out of this world. Okay puzzles (I found 'bad', Bevelle's temple, the problem is not solving, the problem is that getting around there is very boring and time consuming)

Yunalesca is a boss nonsense, Seymour in flip flops (it may be because I was well underleved in her ¯ _ (ツ) _ / ¯). Until the boss fight at Mt. Gagazet the game was okay okay in difficulty but after that the difficulty curve gives a considerable jump in general, maybe the game was made thinking that the player does the sidequests that make you well OP, because some bosses fights are very difficult from then on (it is worth noting that some definitely are not)

    Also really good soundtrack

The game is fun and has great graphics but it has a painful amount of cutscenes that are also painful in length.

The story is decent but it's hard to keep interest when cutscenes are cutting into your playing time.

The game is a classic and a must have for PS2 RPG collectors. Just be sure to set aside some time to watch as much as you get to play.

If you were to ask what people's favorite Final Fantasy game would be, more often than not it would be the first one you've played due to the nostalgic and emotional attachment they may have with it. You can play other games in the series before or since that one, and yet you will still hold that first game in highest regard. FFX is that Final Fantasy for me. When I first saw this gameIf you were to ask what people's favorite Final Fantasy game would be, more often than not it would be the first one you've played due to the nostalgic and emotional attachment they may have with it. You can play other games in the series before or since that one, and yet you will still hold that first game in highest regard. FFX is that Final Fantasy for me. When I first saw this game back in the early 2000s, I was blown away. I had never seen any game like it up to that point, RPG or otherwise. Sure, it's begun to show cracks and feels dated in a few spots, but none of those issue take away the fact that I believe this to be one of the best RPGs ever made.

FFX chronicles the tale of a big shot sports player named Tidus, who winds up over 1000 years past his time after coming into contact with a humongous creature called Sin. He gets wrapped up with a summoner named Yuna, along with her bodyguards, who are on a pilgrimage to defeat the creature. I found the storytelling and world building to be immensely engaging. All the different races you come across, the religion and culture, and of course the different characters. I enjoy every member of the party in some form or fashion, including Auron, Yuna, Wakka, and, yes, even Tidus. Each of the characters have their own stand-out moments and watching each of them grow throughout the game is satisfying. Even the romance between Yuna and Tidus I found to be believable and even pretty heart-breaking. While some of the character motivations are incredibly flawed, and certain plot elements can feel downright stupid, the game never loses my interest. This was also the first FF game at the time to feature fully voiced cutscenes with full-fledge cinematography. While certainly dated in many respects (some of the animations, weird shot transitions and odd voice direction), for a first go this is remarkably impressive. The game still looks and sounds stellar for an early PS2 title as well, with colorful cutting-edge visuals, terrific soundtrack, and voice acting that still holds up for the most part.

The game is a mix of linear exploration and traditional turn-based gameplay. This is the first game since FFIII to return back to a turn-based formula, and for my money it's some of the best combat the series has to offer. It's fast and strategic, allowing you to swap party members on the fly to account for any situation. There's strong, flashy finishers you can pull off, tons of weapon and armor upgrades and abilities, and the series' tried and true summons that now you can control manually. Leveling up this time around is done via this massive sphere grid, where as long as you have the appropriate spheres you'll have the opportunity to customize your party to your specifications (even being able to fill out the grid in its entirety and bleeding off into other characters' sections). The exploration, while linear, still offers enough deviation to make it worth exploring. You'll also come across the occasional mini-games, which are pretty hit-and-miss. For every great one like the Monster Arena, there's Blitzball, Chocobo Races and Lightning Dodges, and many are required to achieve characters' ultimate weapons. Unless you are very patient, most of them are not really worth going after.

FFX ain't perfect. Not by a long shot. It feels dated in many respects, many of the mini-games are a chore and some of the story is flat out dumb. That being said, I don't care. I consider it a flawed masterpiece. Whenever I give a game a 10, it's not because I think a game is perfect, but because not only do I think it emotionally connects with me, what it does right, it vastly outweighs any shortcomings. I consider it to be a gold standard. FFX is a game I have loved for close to 20 years, and I'm certain I'll continue loving it for many more.

FFX quickly became both one of my favourite final fantasy games, and favourite games of all time. The story stuck with me for years, and upon replaying is stuck in my head once more. Top tier music, visual style and story!

Yes it's good. The music is really really good. The final boss battle is epic. The story is so interesting I loved it. The combat is good too. Getting all the summons was fun. Lol some puzzles were hard but still worth it.

This is, by Far, the best game off the franchise. I do played the FF VII, but only after i had played the FF X. It was the best 1000 hours of my life (playing a game). Sorry for the FF VII fans, but thats my opinion.

I thought this game had a very unique story. The graphics are really spectacular especially the animated Cutscenes. I loved the characters development and each character's personality brought something special to the table. I'd say my only problem with this game was the voice acting. it was lacking in emotion and at times the characters sounded very robotic. Despite this the game is a must play!!

9.5/10 - An excellent FF and an excellent RPG.
Let's address the elephant in the room here:

The voice acting was superb for its time, 2001, and everyone was amazed by the sheer amount of voiced dialogues back then.
The infamous "Tidus' laugh" was meant to be awkward and stupid:
he's a teenager trying to hit on the girl he likes by being silly and make her laugh - this is how teenagers work.

Absolutely one of the best FF games, and RPGs, ever made.
A great story, with some big plot twists in it, and a romance between the main characters that never fells odd or forced.
The graphics were insane for the time and so was the music too. This soundtrack is simply amazing.
In 2001 there weren't actual side-quests, but FF games had something like that and FFX does no less. These extra-activities were mainly mini games that serves to unlock special weapons... plus, a certain something called Blitzball:
A side-game tied both with FFX lore and with various characters background. Great addition.

But... there are flaws. Mainly in the battle system:
This FF comes without an ATB system, rendering the fights more dull and slow.
In other words: A bit too easy and unchallenging (the main story battles at least).

This aside it was a virtually perfect game, mind you that this game got released in 2001.

This is one if the best RPGs of all time. Great characters, amazing gameplay, and well... honestly a bizare story, very, but a story that is so well written and voice acted that you believe it even though it is laughable. Must play.

Its a bad FF for the 1st one of its generation, voices, 'nice' grafics can really make a good game alone, it has its moments, for the good or for the... tidus laughing moments.

X falls short compared to ps1 games in some areas, its more linear and streamlined but at the same time you can't deny its achivements in others, mainly telling a compelling story with use of voice acting and 3d, something never before done in the series. I would consider it one of better Final Fantasy games.

Grandes personajes, gran desarrollo y una historia muy disfrutable. El sistema de batalla podría estar entre mis favoritos del género y se le saca provecho al máximo. Donde flaquea el título es en su estructura completamente lineal y su nula exploración.

It does have its flaws though with Tidus being a mediocre protagonist despite his nice character design, the voice acting is a mixed bag with some characters sounding good and others sounding like they came from an abysmal anime dub, some of the decision making in the game is odd and some of the characters can be downrightfrustrating at times such as Wakka whose bible-thumping gets really annoying overtime. The difficulty in the game is also very bipolar and the sphere trials shouldn't be in the game period.

I think this is a game worth experiencing for anyone who likes Final Fantasy or JRPGs, if you don't like either then better off avoiding the game.

  1. We've seen the Final Fantasy epic take us on a memorable journey, but now it all seems like it's been done before. 10 is good, great at times, but it is no longer original.
  2. The replay value is very low, and the design is flawed by an inability to skip past sequences, even in replay mode. The playability also suffers by a lack of freedom of movement.
  3. Great RPG and certainly the best one on the PS2 currently, however, I feel it isn't as great as past FF's have been due to its lack of freedom.
