Its a bad FF for the 1st one of its generation, voices, 'nice' grafics can really make a good game alone, it has its moments, for the good or for the... tidus laughing moments.

Final Fantasy X has a lot of problems to it, most notably being that this is the first FF game with voice acting for the cast...it's not a great effort in any language.
It also has a lot of things going to it that are good, a decent story, a decent amount of good visuals and the score.
Like I said it's got a lot of problems but it's nowhere near terrible, I just don't think it's

My favorite feature in this game is the sphere grid talent system. The sphere grid is probably one of the most well done character development systems in any game. However, the only reason I'm not giving this game a 10 is because of the poorly implemented voice-overs. The 'press X to continue the dialog' made it seem entirely unnatural, and the voices they chose for the characters were from a well known and cliche team that otherwise translates anime sitcoms. The bad voices marred the character personalities. I have to keep in mind, however, that Square Enix deserved some slack for the voice-overs since it's the first time they ever tried it. Expand

Final Fantasy X is a good game in many ways. The battle system is still turn based but the new way of using summons brings it to a new level. Although this game is filled with memorable characters there are certain aspects of the game's story that seem somewhat unoriginal. Tidus and Yuna's love story is basically a blend of the love stories found in Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy IX. Also Sin is by far the least interesting villain that the Final Fantasy series has had. Final Fantasy X then tries to fill it's villain void with Seymour but he looks really wimpy when comparing him to Sephiroth, Kefka or Ultimecia. Expand

I was disappointed with this game. It opened up really well, but then just went out without a bang. First of all, Tidus is probably the worst character ever. The battles were very balanced and were awesome, however the huge long intros to start off battles became unbelievably annoying. Expand

FF7 was way better. The story was stupid. Once you got past Macalania it was super boring. Yunalesca was too hard. The first time it took me a month to beat her.

This game seriously blew. The graphics were great (hence the 5 rating), but i think it's a testament to how completely boring the game is when you consider that I've only beaten it just now-- and it's an easy game! I say bring back FF7-- that game rocked.

While I do appreciate the great story, longevity, and sweet video sequences, I actually somewhat regret purchasing FFX. The gameplay is rather boring, and it's difficult to get in to. I wish there was more skill and strategy involved. Perhaps it's best suited to patient RPG fanatics.

Not a bad game, but it feels like they concentrated more on the graphics and appearance, than the content and merit... Doesn't hold up too well compared to FFIX, but still playing it was enjoyable.

While instantly aesthetically displeasing and having bad writing and bad voice acting [really campy b-movie level], it really did seem like it was an 8/10 early on. As the game goes on it becomes more and more abrasive for many reasons.

-The random encounters are all rock paper scissors fights where you hit really heavy and so do they, so you have to manually heal your party after every single battle

-They hype up this big sports game in the story, then when you finally get to play it, it is a rigged match made for you loose badly in, and then instead of that mattering for the story like they hyped it to, the game disappears into the menu at save spots as an optional minigame

-there are very annoying puzzles with unnecessary menus that pop up anytime you want to do something

-There are very few enemy types, they get reused often and in the same exact combinations

-There are very very cheap enemies that can wipe out your entire party before you even have a turn later on, making them harder than bosses

    -the protagonist is exceedingly dumb

-a sex scene happens completely out of no where with no lead up romance

-there is a race of people who speak a different language, and you find books that teach you one letter each, and you never piece it together. You are supposed to combine the letters your friends have found on the same game system by combining the save files. So you go through the game watching all this dialogue in a different language annoyed that you can't understand it and are missing parts of the story.

-the airship in this game is unusable

-they didn't bother to lip-sync the characters to the english audio

-an entire level where you have to constantly be on edge for lighting to hit you

    -and you can't skip cutscenes

This last point brings me to where I quit. After a 5 minute long cutscene, I was faced with a boss that killed one of my party members before I even had a turn, and then later killed them all in one hit. When you get a game over, it doesn't offer to reload from the start of the fight or the cutscene OR your last save file. It goes back to loading the main menu. You have to click through to prevent the opening movie to play, load your game, walk back to where you were, and sit through the same poorly written, poorly acted cutscene again, only to face the same poorly designed boss.

I truly do not know why this game is highly regarded, I am more disappointed in the community than the game.

As most final fantasy games are, this is definitely a shining gem of JRPG games. But I had trouble really getting into the game - blitzball is basically a meme (it controls terribly) and I had so little direction in some of the early game battles and quests that it took me three or four tries before I made it past the opening sequence of this game.

The game is fun and has great graphics but it has a painful amount of cutscenes that are also painful in length.

The story is decent but it's hard to keep interest when cutscenes are cutting into your playing time.

The game is a classic and a must have for PS2 RPG collectors. Just be sure to set aside some time to watch as much as you get to play.

The turn based combat is okay, but the presentation of the battles with the camera angles and the unique stuff that happens during story battles makes it fun. I quite liked how each party member was different mechanically, with only Waka using his ranged weapon or a magic user being able to hit flying enemies, or Auron using his strength to shatter armored enemies, whereas Tidus' attacks will bounce off of armor. The Sphere Grid is a fake progression system that has no actual choice or depth involved and only exists to waste your time. The process of filling in a spot on the Grid takes several seconds for what should be a one click operation, and that times adds up when you're filling in the grids of 7 characters.

The game aesthetically looks gorgeous and still holds up, much better than the brown hyper-realistic artstyles that became popular later on. The music is a mixed bag. There are some really good tracks but there are a lot of stinkers that are grating to listen to. The English voice acting is... okay.

The game is disappointing when compared to prior games, as the game is linear. There is no world map. You cannot pilot any vehicles.

As for the story, it's okay. The characters are likeable enough, but the story really stalls out around the half way mark.

  1. We've seen the Final Fantasy epic take us on a memorable journey, but now it all seems like it's been done before. 10 is good, great at times, but it is no longer original.
  2. The replay value is very low, and the design is flawed by an inability to skip past sequences, even in replay mode. The playability also suffers by a lack of freedom of movement.
  3. Great RPG and certainly the best one on the PS2 currently, however, I feel it isn't as great as past FF's have been due to its lack of freedom.
