  1. Suffers from a series of problems ranging from stilted animation that adversely affects its gameplay to downright poor AI.
  2. Perhaps not the most complete basketball title, but definitely a contender.
  3. It's a good training game, but there's too much looseness in the controls to make it a top draw.

It's not altogether a dismal title, but the rebounding and passing flaws bring it down pretty far. Which is a shame, because the game looks very good.

"NBA 2K2" is still the obvious choice for basketball fans. But 2Night's stock remains on the rise. [May 2002, p.99]
  6. PSM Magazine

It doesn't offer anything that would make us recommend it over a better basketball game. [May 2002, p.26]
  7. The game is just not as fun to play as either its prequel or the new breed of b-ball games. This is mostly due to arcade physics forced to fit into the straight jacket of a simulation engine.
  8. For overall quality, it's stuck somewhere between a rock (a solid "NBA 2K2" title) and a hard place (the underachieving "NBA Live 2002").
