  1. For overall quality, it's stuck somewhere between a rock (a solid "NBA 2K2" title) and a hard place (the underachieving "NBA Live 2002").
  2. Perhaps not the most complete basketball title, but definitely a contender.
  3. It's a good training game, but there's too much looseness in the controls to make it a top draw.
  4. Official U.S. Playstation Magazine

"NBA 2K2" is still the obvious choice for basketball fans. But 2Night's stock remains on the rise. [May 2002, p.99]

It doesn't offer anything that would make us recommend it over a better basketball game. [May 2002, p.26]

It's not altogether a dismal title, but the rebounding and passing flaws bring it down pretty far. Which is a shame, because the game looks very good.
  7. Suffers from a series of problems ranging from stilted animation that adversely affects its gameplay to downright poor AI.
  8. The game is just not as fun to play as either its prequel or the new breed of b-ball games. This is mostly due to arcade physics forced to fit into the straight jacket of a simulation engine.
