It's good for beginners but it's getting lame-o in just a short period of playing it... The graphics are what it's only perfect but the others...

So I'm almost fully behind the esteemed GameZone and GameSpot critics quoted above, this is indeed a faithful representation of the game and an excellent learning tool. It's also a better way to burn time than playing solitaire :P. It's also a better way to burn time than playing solitaire :P. I'm still onboard as far as the complaints regarding the game's repetitive nature: the music's repetitive, the sound bytes are repetitive, and until you score a LOT of wins the duels will tend to be repetitive as you just don't have enough cards to build the deck of your dreams. Can't agree with the high graphics scores though, nay, not one bit. Yes, the cards are rendered very nicely, all the detail you'd expect is present, you can even read the text straight on the card if you're feeling like getting some eyestrain action going! But reality check folks, this is a PC game, and you'll be hard pressed to find a gaming rig these days with less than a GeForce2 in it, this is the territory of the Unreal Tournaments the Morrowinds, and the Tron 2.0s, I was fully expecting to see a proper battlefield with 3D monsters materializing and doing battle as per the show, sorely dissapointed to just see a gameboard with silly little swords flying around. Let's hope the next one out at least adds SOME pretty graphics, not to mention multiplayer options. Oh and fer pete's sake can we have an option to turn off those @#@#$$ sound bytes?? :P Expand

  1. For Yu-Gi-Oh! fans, the meager options make it less attractive than one of Konami's dozen or so other, more fully featured Yu-Gi-Oh! games, and to players who don't already have an investment in the series, it has about as much to offer as a game of solitaire.

Simply missing too many features to justify the purchase. Collectible-card-game fans should opt for "Magic: The Gathering Online" instead, so they can face truly challenging opponents: other human players. [Apr 2004, p.83]

With the addition of any type of multiplayer Yu-Gi-Oh! would have been a solid competitor to other CCG videogames on the market. As it stands, it's merely a satisfying and addictive upgrade to Solitaire. [June 2004, p.81]
