Legacy of the Duelist probably provides the most straight forward presentation for Yu-Gi-Oh gameplay over the last couple of years. It does away with the world exploring and NPCs and all the other stuff and just gives you duels after duels after duels. You can duel against characters through pre-set story decks as you kind of live through the anime series or you can make your own deck.
Maybe it's just my own expectations but what Legacy of the Duelist lacks most is any sort of sense of progression. You can easily make a deck that will beat out most of the 'story' missions from your first time picking it up. Usually you will want to use the story decks as given because they provide a bit of a challenge but then you start playing as other characters and have no control over what is in your deck. It just doesn't feel like there is any sort of core game, just a bunch of random duels. You buy cards but they are in these character-specific packs where you easily get hundreds just thrown at you in maybe your first couple hours of play.
If you want some easy-going dueling against NPCs, this is a solid game to play. Otherwise, it feels like a very robust extra mode to some bigger game that never existed.… Expand
