A resounding massive failure of quality control, the game suffers from severe optimization issues which the game seems to get confused, I've had the controls buttons change from regular xbox icons to PSN icons for no reason which makes no sense, but considering the game crashes so frequently the game is pretty much unplayable.

Wouldn't be a bad game if it was actually tested properly

Pros: Best of the Y's series so far in story, length, game mechanics and English voice acting, if you can keep it running long enough to actually play it.
Cons: Constant crashing, horrible optimization, previous gen console quality graphics.
I cannot even begin to describe how bad this port is. It crashes so often that it takes an ungodly amount of patience to actually play enough to

I cannot even begin to describe how bad this port is. It crashes so often that it takes an ungodly amount of patience to actually play enough to write a review. I've tried on multiple computers with varying AMD and Intel setups and the results are generally the same. Crashes, crashes and more crashes. The best luck I had was on an old AMD FX system paired a GTX 1050 TI. With that setup I've managed to play about 42 hours in the game so far. (Still crashing but far less frequently, about an hour or three between crashes).

All in all play it on the PS4 but STAY AWAY from the PC port until they get all the issues patched out. Give them year or so.

The game has nothing good on PC.
    - KB & Mouse don't work probably.
    - Game crash every 10 minutes.
    - Poor audio's quality.
    - Bad game's support team for fixing problem.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A quite forgettable story, major plot points that don't make sense at the end, a final boss that you get to know right at the last battle, unnecessary fan-service (why do they show so much skin, including the kid?), way too long for an uninteresting story.

I had some fun for the first few hours as the idea was good. Couldn't help but feel it was implemented poorly at the end. Well that was my first Ys game and likely last.

It’s a satisfying RPG with a steady pace and great gameplay. There are also plenty of sidequests if you want to pursue them, but it’s optional. One thing I really like are the raids which will happen on your little castaway village. These happen throughout the game and you can choose to participate in defending everyone from a monster raid. They’re also good for friendly competition with Dogi, and if there’s one thing I think Ys VIII does really well it’s things like this that keep things from ever getting too serious.

Ys VIII is a fantastic action RPG with interesting characters and an intriguing story, which provides countless hours of exploration and banter.

Seriously? We had to wait for the PC port this long? With bugs and technical problems the once very good action roleplaying game is reduced to a meager shell.
