    Long story short:
Base game deserves attention, because of systems it have right from beginning.
Continuous development doesn't succeeded at breaking this systems completely, yet, while trying harder and harder. Yet, no one cares besides beta veterans who somehow managed to not bail in past 4 years.

But there are also a lot of bugs, the MM was only improved in 2019, let's see how it goes now.

The autopilot is e.g. still bugy.

The punishment for friendly fire is also exaggerated, the system does not recognize whether someone was shot or rammed on purpose or unintentionally.

And Wargaming Support is incompetent and totally incapable.

The game was a pretty solid ship arcade game, and then they reworked the carriers and caused all kinds of new problems. It was ok-ish but then they started to go down the path of high hidden costs, exploitative psychological mechanics, power creep, and pay to win.

This Christmas, they intentionally make the "free" ship impossible to get, and anyone who spent money to boost this impossible task would eventually be confronted with wasting their money, or spending more to complete the task at the the risk of getting nothing.

It's the price of a AAA game for a single ship in this game, and now the T10 ships costing almost $300 in hidden, lure/bait based gating and hiding of true costs... this game is a mugger in an alley waiting to gank you for your money.

I would advice anyone to be very wary of spending a lot on this game without careful reading and extensive thoughts about the true hidden costs of purchases.

Every time I play this game, every time I press the battle button, I am instantaneously and totally disappointed. That disappointment stems both from small things -- the fact that trees don't render properly outside the binocular mode, the UI bugs associated with the zooming, the numerous bugs on new test ships -- to large, gamebreaking balance features like aircraft carriers or submarines, to the deplorable and disgusting company culture inherent in Wargaming Saint Petersburg. The amount of disrespect and borderline malice shown to the playerbase is simply ridiculous -- this company treats us like the staff treats their rat infestation at the local Papa Johns; first baiting us, then exterminating us entirely.
More pressing is the languid bureaucracy of the company execution. The system for suggesting and implementing changes in this game is simply kafkaeqsue -- its designed in a purposely convoluted way to specifically disencentivise it. Anyone who comes near Wargaming is instantly tainted by their disgusting practices and policies. I would rather dig graves for a living and earn minimum wage than be a Wargaming executive and earn six figures a year. Probably the worst commercial game developing company in the industry -- and yes, I've heard of EA.
If you're thinking of getting this game, don't touch it. Don't look at it. Don't interact with anyone in the community. Just press the x at the top right of your screen and forget it ever happened. Go outside and get some fresh air. Do your chores -- you'll probably find it more fun anyways.

It's very similar to World of Tanks (duh, the game engine and the developer are the same, and even the premium membership benefits are shared across the titles), but now the battles happen on water. Once again: ten vehicle tiers to advance through per tech branch, captains (crew) to level up, XP and credits to earn by damaging enemies each round. I prefer this game over Tanks, however, because the pace is slower, more premium is placed on positioning and sticking together, and simply because I love ships more than I like any other war machines from WW2. And since there is no other battleship game of this scope and quality currently out (Navy Field 2 is utter trash, unfortunately), I will be playing WoWs for the foreseeable future.

What could be better about this game? I would like some more complexity in ship loadouts. I used to play Navy Field 1 in the early 2000's, and I wish that WoWs had some of its features. The number of upgrades for each ship is rather limited (compared to Tanks, for example) and the different modules don't change the stats all that much (compared to Tanks once again). I remember Navy Field 1 having 5 different gun options for a ship, the armor was customizable (i.e. how much armor do I want to put on deck, belt, or torpedo bulge?), different types of FCS (Fire Control System) gave different benefits (manual was extremely accurate because you had to aim the guns manually with the keyboard, and the auto ones were easier to use but had different distance/accuracy trade-offs), and different engines had different accelerations/max speeds/overheat values. Mounting this equipment had to be balanced against your ship''s displacement: a ship can only carry so much weight, so big heavy guns left less displacement for armor, engine, and even crew (yup, you could even determine how many sailors per position, which would affect the crew's performance negatively or positively). In WoWs, you'll usually find one upgrade for each of the systems: hull, FCS, engine, guns/torpedoes, and each of the upgrades is marginally better than the previous one. For example, the FCS gives a straight upgrade of 10% more range. How about giving us 2 or 3 FCS options that change accuracy, range, and perhaps view distance in different proportions? One would give much better accuracy but decrease range, another would increase both slightly etc. Or engines: right now the upgraded engine increases the top speed of the ship slightly over the stock one, why not give us different engines that affect acceleration, top speed, reverse speed in different ways? I would love to see some variety and complexity in the modules.

All this being said, the game is still evolving with new features being added on a consistent basis. Just like Tanks evolved over the years with many features, new game modes, and vehicles being added, I am sure WoWs will evolve along the same lines. If you have played Tanks in the past, take this game for a spin. If you never played a War Gaming title ever before but you like ships, then there is nothing stopping you from trying it either. It's free to play!!!

It is technically a free game but there is an in game purchasing system for bonus xp and various ships that appear in store every so often. Tirpitz being one of them.

Needless to say, I've spent an overwhelming amount of time playing WoT, learning the complexities of an outwardly simple game that, at its core, has immense tactical depth. I've committed to learning the game mechanics and perfecting upon skills that often feel diminished by unfair metrics of balance and incompetent teammates. However, I'm here to talk about World of Warships (WoWS). Offering many of the same appeals of WoT, WoWS solves many of the former's issues. However, WoWS is (arguably) the exact same type of game albeit with a much more obvious level of complexity. Ultimately, WoWS is firing and maneuvering. Whereas WoT players sometimes found themselves hopelessly outmatched against higher tiered vehicles and tank types (heavy, medium, light and destroyers) mattered little to the metagame (camo and DPM), the different classes of warships (battleships, cruisers, destroyers and aircraft carriers) have significantly more distinctive playstyles. As a result, WoWS players will never feel incapable of affecting the outcome of a battle as WoWS rewards intelligent play in away WoT does not. Although a completely different game, WoWS will feel serendipitously familiar to WoT players who remember feeling excited at the prospect of a game with so much potential and opportunity for growth. I truly recommend that you give it a shot. Expand

Game play and winning is largely decided on by players and their tactics. Progression is relatively quick up to about level 5 ships. After level 5 it is a different game. Progression is extremely slow. Weeks playing a single ship before you can progress is typical. Ports and virtually every feature costs real money. To those who have every ship, they have spent several hundred dollars just to buy ports.

Premium ships are vastly superior to the regular ships. In every sense this is a p2w game. Thank the gods there are not many of them but faced with a team of premium ships tactics don't much matter.

While carriers add a dimension to the game they also distort the essence of play. Playing in a carrier is a different view even, like a map based tactical view, you are no longer in a ship. The airplanes can also rather easily spot destroyers highlighting them for cruisers and battleships to destroy. Even if there are no carriers in your game, prepare yourself, many battleships have planes and even cruisers. So by level 5 in a destroyer prepare to have games were you do ok, and other games where you die without getting a single shot on anything. So by level 5 or 6 playing a destroyer is unpleasant.

Quite often when I play my battleship, it is so slow I find the battle has already been decided before I can fire a single round. All my destroyers and cruisers rush forward, engage their mass of ships, get destroyed, and I am left with the carrier to die. Still haven't fire a shot. Not the fault of the game that my teams tactics are horrible, but that is typically what happens.

So you have decided the only thing to play is a cruiser. Jack of all trades. Maybe the only consistent and relatively decent ship class in the game.

No ability to put on ignore the children who play this game. I would say this alone makes the game loose a full point. Upgrading to a new ship is really annoying. They have made it so that an upgrade actually is worse than your current ship, all you have to do is upgrade everything about it to make it better. Transfer a captain from an old ship. Either pay to transfer him at no penalty or spend weeks with him penalized to incompetency before he understands how to make this new ship work. So pay, then pay, oh yeah new ship = new port so pay, then pay .... you get the picture.

My advice would be to play this game to level 4, enjoy it as much as you can, and don't plan on higher level ships, from level 5 ships on you will start to experience a very different game.

Don't shoot torpedoes in front of allies

You can have a lot of fun on mid tiers where the grind is not really an issue, neither in terms of in-game money nor XP.

Beautiful ship models, some nicely designed maps but little variety.
I wish there was more of a meta game and some PvE content but that's just not Wargaming's deal, so it would be unfair to criticise them for that.

Apart from the pay 2 win element which already makes it a 0. The game is a torpedo dodging simulator, they do the most damage in the game. Annoying to play against both from carriers (planes) and from destroyers. Don't know what is more dirty; sit back from a carrier and take out everything from a distance or play a destroyer and play fast and cheeky with hiding and camping.

I feel after a few games in a row it loses its charm pretty quick though, and becomes somewhat mindnumbing. I prefer to play 1 or 2 games a day and try to call it. With the grind it's easy to find yourself playing so many games of it in a row you become sick of it.

I'm also disappointed they didn't put in submarines, it's kind of hard to ignore that huge factor of the era....I can understand the game design would be harder, but maybe high tier premiums in the future.

Each line has it's own play style with every player getting a chance to figure our his or her own play style. Wargaming listens to its players and makes adjustments; yes, some people never agree, but they keep it fresh with ranked play, new ships, maps, game modes (called Operations). Divisioning up with 3 team members makes controlling flanks easier, so look to real strategy in the map. Certain ships have little to insignificant role in the battle, compounded with the easily manipulated matchmaker through divisions meant player individual skills have insignificant effects on win rate (of which determines rewards for the match). Thus, the game places players of which has no desire to either 1. organise a professional division or 2. use certain overly competent ships; in a noticeable disadvantage and will very likely cause frustration for casual players.

The game, however, can be very enjoyable in rare circumstances such as both teams being equally competent, leading to breathtaking victories or losses. With a considerably low skill ceiling, most casual players can learn most of the game mechanics with ease. Those who played and enjoyed either Battlestations series or Navy Field 1 would find themselves fairly familiar with the game and worth the try. However, I cannot recommend the game to everyone as the current matchmaker state outweighs most the positives of the game.

Mid to late game it becomes very "grindy" if you don't have Premium or Premium ships and spend real money to convert XP. Some games you might not even get anywhere in progression, this goes for all three WOT, WOWS WOWP. Sad really.
The whole business model for Wargaming games is to get you hooked for the first 2 to 5 hours of gameplay which you can progress quite quickly if your a decent player but anything beyond that (Tier V to X) you could be spending that same amount on 1 tier. You are also "forced" to purchase to progress, if you want tier a V battleship you must use tier IV battleship, purchase all upgrades for it then the tier V battleship, unlike War Thunder where if you want to skip tier IV tank all you have to do is research it and move on and continue using your tier III if desired. No unnecessary purchases to set you back some.
    Ultimately it's a 2/10,
    1 point for graphics,

Other than that, the game seems to have been put together by some preteens who think they know something about naval warfare. I mean, is a Bismark, Missouri, or Yamato truly 3 times better than a U.S.S. Pennsylvania? Not unless you live in some kind of weird gaming universe where you have to name everything after something in real life after you make up everything else.
So much for realism. The game play is like other so called "free games": loaded with hacks and cheats. These games aren't exactly free to play because you'll probably have to buy another computer after it's hacked intentionally or broken by the poorly conceived software. As a plus, you'll find the free to play slogan immediately deceitful since you'll run out of slots to buy ships etc. never mind, just don't spend the 1 or 2 hours download time on a piece of junk like I did.

In general I enjoy complex, realistic high-risk high-reward games. Many of the reviews here complain about things that I like, i.e. that the game's mechanics are non intuitive and require some study, i.e. that sometimes you get teamed up with people who've got no clue what they are doing - well, that's the opportunity to prove that YOU do know what you're doing! By wiping out half the enemy's team or solo-capturing all the control points. Been there done that. Not many times, but the opportunity is always there.

Unlike many MMOs, this one doesn't lend itself that much to creating persistent player communities (guilds, clans, corporations, etc). They introduced the "fleet" feature but in my experience it isn't used that much. Most people myself included play either random encounter or the rank encounter, which also uses random per-battle player matching but keeps track of your rank as you win or lose each fight. The rank-based games keeps team sizes to 7 vs 7 so every player feels (and is, in theory) significant.

Some people here complain it has a p2w model. It's more like "pay to get the high-level ships" - it's true that once you get to lvl 7 ships you're gonna be wasting most of your reward for a fight for "fixing" the ship - which is highest if you get sunk in a battle, which happens roughly half the time if you're an average player.

Paying doesn't affect your win chances, average score per battle, rank among other teammates or average damage dealt in any given fight though. Those are some of the metrics that can be used to tell who "wins" at the game and who... not so much.

I have a lvl 8 cruiser and in all honesty the game doesn't get dramatically different from lvl 5-6. I'd say lvl-5 is where each race-shipclass combination gets "established" in concept, i.e. "Jap destroyers and very stealthy and have good torps but weak guns and weak smokescreens". Or "Battleships have long-range artillery", or "Russian/Soviet destroyers have artillery rangle almost like that of cruisers". lvls 1-4 are kinda wildcard for every ship - i.e. the japs have a lvl-3 battleship which is anything but long-range, and is very misleading as someone's first ship of the class.

Some say MatchMaking is terrible - IDK what you guys smoke, honestly. If anything, it works very well, I've yet to see an unbalanced team once.

The game is evolving - not so long ago weather effects were added, although they don't seem to affect gameplay mechanics much (i.e. detection range and aircraft efficiency doesn't change during a storm).

    The pros:
+ Good balance and variety of ships. It can throw a few oddballs at you on the lower levels, but once you reach lvl-5: if you loose, it's your own fault, not the ship's. There are four ship classes but the race matters a lot too. Sometimes I feel like Soviet and U.S. destroyers are almost closer to Jap cruisers than to Jap destroyers.
+ Good graphics and mechanics. Some MMOs have graphics, physics bugs and glitches, teleporting around. Have yet to see any in WoWS. Feels like LAN game playing with people across the world.
+ Lots of tactics you can employ depending on your ship class. Every ship class has roles but sometimes going outside of what you're expected to do pays off too.

    The cons:
    - Grind/Pay wall. Pay either $$ or insane amounts of time to progress. Getting past lvl 7 without paying is... Well, let's say it would require almost insane skills, a league above the median player - surviving with minimal damage AND winning most of your battles.
    - Very limited options and incentive for creating persistent player teams.
    - No persistent world (yet). But I've heard they are working on creating more "MMO elements.". Area sieges, sovereignity, open world battles... It would be nice if they added that, but that would be a different game entirely.
    - No submarines. I understand the balance issues that made the devs write them off (there were subs in the first alpha versions, but they didn't find a way to balance them). It's not a bad thing per se, just mildly disappointing for those who'd love to see submarines in a game about WWII naval warfare.

For someone who loves the history of the WWII Pacific theater, this game just blew my mind with the attention to detail given to all the ships and their respective capabilities.

My few bits of criticism of this game is that at some tiers of play, higher level ships are actually worse than lower ships. That coupled with the minimal rewards for matches compared to repair costs makes it quite obvious this is a pay to win game...or at the very least, pay to keep your ship floating. I upgraded my tier 5 Japanese destroyer (Minekaze) to the tier 6 destroyer (Mutsuki), and despite it being the EXACT same ship except for more powerful torpedoes, was a step BACKWARDS in overall performance. Slower ship, slower turns, faster to get dead.

Then there is the grind.....oh my god. IF you have the time to invest, awesome for you. But even the first tier carriers require such massive amounts of xp to get the next ship in the line that you could potentially be playing that ship for a looooong time, especially the Japanese carriers, which almost ALWAYS seem to get thrown against an American carrier where their planes chew yours up with ease despite you upgrading your planes to be a "match" for them. On my Japanese carrier, I have been playing it for 2 weeks and am STILL nowhere close to getting the next tier as I barely get 500 xp for losing a fight, which almost always happens.

Even if you win a fight, it is still pretty meager in the rewards. Had my best game ever in a Destoryer the other night....5 kills, 50+ hits, 7 cit hits, 5 fires started, I was a rock star. Rewards....4th highest in xp (seriously), 150k cash, not even 1500 xp. Pretty **** rewards for someone who was basically the MVP of the team.

No game will ever be "perfect"...not even the almighty Warcraft. But what this game gets right, it REALLY gets right which is the detail of the ships. Stats, damage dealt(or taken), expenses, and rewards (both xp and cash) could stand to use some tweaking.

Okay game, EXTREMELY crappy company that manages it. Clear money grabs and insidious marketing and the whole game is designed to make you feel horrible about not spending money. Just check the ship and bundle prices and you will know, but the deeper you look the crazier the RNG and just overpricing and horrible practices go.

F2p game, for short fun , clearly too expensive to play on higher levels. Community is not so good, everybody is acting like they own the game. Company sells an unpolished too expensive stone with lots to fix but they don't. They keep introducing new premium ships to make money and your hard gameplay with normal ships just goes to waste very easy. Avoid dont get too attached

A huge part is locked behind a paywall and gambling (lootboxes) and some advantages are payed by real money. Skins and Flags (not the economic) give you extra stats and player power.
The estetics are awsome, great looking grafic, high amount of details and good sound.
You have 5 classes: Desdroyers (DD), Cruisers (CL/CA), Battleships (BB), submarines(SS) and aircraft carryer (CV).
    Now to the frust factors:
    1. No respawn + high TTK: Frustrating when you are getting oneshottet.
    2. Community is really toxic: especially if you are playing playing as SS or CV, even tho they are not they most anoying thing in the game.
    3. The grind: this game is brutaliy grindheavy, especially if you are a F2P player, then you will spend months grinding
    4. Pricepolicy: their pricing policy is bold and one of my biggest points. I never saw a game with such absurd high costs.
Monthly 8,20€ to get double XP and credits and you still grind your a** off. Ships can cost between 40€ - 70€ and if you want an even ship now, it will go up to 250€. Flaggs and skins cost (with some eceptions) real money and are gone after one match...or one one-shot.
    5. Matchmaking: this can between 2 Tiers. Means you can face Ships that are 2 Tiers above yours and thats a huge difference and really frustrating.
    6. Meta: Right now, from my experience, the meta looks like only two classes are in only one way playable: Sniper-BBs and ambush-DDs.
Cruisers are just XP Pinatas, destroyers ambushes with a one-shot torp salvo while beeing stealth in front of you. BBs are just slow, chonky snipers in the background and flaming the CV for only existing. SS stay underwater somhere and get flamed for beeing in game and get oneshottet after beeing spottet.
    7. Events: most events are very grind heavy and you still have to pay to take part

Every time I jump onto the game now if I do, I just get the feeling this game is dying quickly and the only way to fix it. is to allow someone else to do it and listen to the player base. The game before 2020 was good and then they made the CV Rework which broke the game for CV to be so OP that if you had anyone that could barely play them now could do a massive amount of damage without learning how to play them. I played this game from the beginning and just seen it go from good to great to good to now just right boring, not fun to play, and ships that are overpowered towards other ships. It is just so wrong to see. Ships that were designed for AA defense cannot do anything against them. Ships that were designed to destroy Submarine cannot get close to them to destroy them either.
Lastly, the microtransaction or what I say macrotransaction are just so high that normal people cannot afford it, and when they do afford it. it is too late for them to get what they want and just so f this poop, I am out.
The great part of the game and has been since the start is the Art in the game. Everything else is so boring now and no new content except new ships in every update for people to buy that are just copy-paste ships from every other ship in the game.
