    Great game. I just tried it for the hell of it and I literally lost a whole day of my life to it.

    A few improvements are needed to make it perfect. A "night time map" would be great. More maps would be great. I wish the pace of the whole game was just a "little bit" faster. I just switched to the battleship class, and it feels like everything is in slow motion. Also, I kind of

    Also, I kind of expected graphics to be better for a 2015 game.

    Don't shoot torpedoes in front of allies

    You can have a lot of fun on mid tiers where the grind is not really an issue, neither in terms of in-game money nor XP.

    Beautiful ship models, some nicely designed maps but little variety.
    I wish there was more of a meta game and some PvE content but that's just not Wargaming's deal, so it would be unfair to criticise them for that.

    This game is precisely average. I have a list of specific complaints which can be detailed here;

    This game is precisely average. I have a list of specific complaints which can be detailed here;

    Firstly is the ship balance, you enter new tiers and your new ship - unless you use FreeXP to get basic hull upgrades first becomes a liability instantly and causes you to lose against more powerful opponents.

    Secondly the free vs paid ships; in almost all ways the paid ships are better, instead of simply paying for a different kind of ship you can pay for a ship which is stronger, faster, does more damage and has abilities that don't belong to its class. In addition to this is other certain aspects surrounding the paid unlocks such as faster progression generally, more money etc etc. Yes I have played F2P before but this is obscene because P2W ships will always get a game even if they're blatantly not tier appropriate.

    Thirdly is the aircraft carriers - IJN and USA CV will get discussed to death here and elsewhere but it's really evident that the developers are playing musical chairs with who gets to be OP in order to maximise your time spent grinding. IJN CV are hands down better than USA because even in their fighter heavy configuration they still get 3 bomber units on top of their 3 fighter units vs the 2/0/1 or 2/0/2 of most USA CV. You are demonstrably non-competitive in USA CV up until the later tiers.

    The tier 6 USA CV is literally the ship which made me decide not to pay for this game. Feel free to quote me on that, the indepedence is the vessel that made me decide not to give you the money I felt you deserved up to that point. The soul crushing grind and underpowered t6/t7 I have experienced since isn't encouraging me to spend the money, it's just making me resent my time spent even more.

    Fourth and finally is the sheer arrogance of the development and moderator teams. Letting cheating go on blatantly, allowing super testers to threaten other people with doxxing and cyber attacks as well as cynically doubling down on players by not making certain P2W features clear at the outset and then charging the newbie a stipend for their refusal to explain fully what's happening is just another reason to not give this game your money.

    With that being said I'm now dropping my score from a 5 to a 4. The game has its good moments it can't be denied but in the face of so much smug and psychological browbeating I cannot in good faith even give this game a score of 5.

    Wargaming you are losing players globally and unless you change your behaviour as a business this game cannot last. At least your game is free. Kind of.

    Like all the developers games, it's great at first, then you invest and WHAM... NOT fun no more unless you pay to win... Yes, if you have money to burn, go ahead, if not walk away... It starts to be a joke no matter what your gaming skill levels are. My review is try it and you will love it.... Unless you start investing and upgrading...you will be PZZZD...

    Already I think I will enjoy this game more than Tanks, and I am.

    I feel after a few games in a row it loses its charm pretty quick though, and becomes somewhat mindnumbing. I prefer to play 1 or 2 games a day and try to call it. With the grind it's easy to find yourself playing so many games of it in a row you become sick of it.

    I'm also disappointed they didn't put in submarines, it's kind of hard to ignore that huge factor of the era....I can understand the game design would be harder, but maybe high tier premiums in the future.

Needless to say, I've spent an overwhelming amount of time playing WoT, learning the complexities of an outwardly simple game that, at its core, has immense tactical depth. I've committed to learning the game mechanics and perfecting upon skills that often feel diminished by unfair metrics of balance and incompetent teammates. However, I'm here to talk about World of Warships (WoWS). Offering many of the same appeals of WoT, WoWS solves many of the former's issues. However, WoWS is (arguably) the exact same type of game albeit with a much more obvious level of complexity. Ultimately, WoWS is firing and maneuvering. Whereas WoT players sometimes found themselves hopelessly outmatched against higher tiered vehicles and tank types (heavy, medium, light and destroyers) mattered little to the metagame (camo and DPM), the different classes of warships (battleships, cruisers, destroyers and aircraft carriers) have significantly more distinctive playstyles. As a result, WoWS players will never feel incapable of affecting the outcome of a battle as WoWS rewards intelligent play in away WoT does not. Although a completely different game, WoWS will feel serendipitously familiar to WoT players who remember feeling excited at the prospect of a game with so much potential and opportunity for growth. I truly recommend that you give it a shot. Expand

    Time passer, gets boring quick. Pay to win, premium ships are indeed premium. Game mechanics stink. Had a round where I registered over 100 hits on one ship, no fire, no crits, no sink. Have been playing it for a few weeks now and am still addicted to it !

    Shame that the Royal Navy and German Navy are not yet in game but am informed that their coming. Quite a few swearing kids in game chat but mostly helpful and probably mature players. Its not perfect but after a few adjustments and the addition of more nations (just USA and Japan atm) will get much better.

    IMHO already better than World Of Tanks and I played that for ages!

    It is technically a free game but there is an in game purchasing system for bonus xp and various ships that appear in store every so often. Tirpitz being one of them.
    In theory you could play through to any tier 10 without spending a penny.

It's very similar to World of Tanks (duh, the game engine and the developer are the same, and even the premium membership benefits are shared across the titles), but now the battles happen on water. Once again: ten vehicle tiers to advance through per tech branch, captains (crew) to level up, XP and credits to earn by damaging enemies each round. I prefer this game over Tanks, however, because the pace is slower, more premium is placed on positioning and sticking together, and simply because I love ships more than I like any other war machines from WW2. And since there is no other battleship game of this scope and quality currently out (Navy Field 2 is utter trash, unfortunately), I will be playing WoWs for the foreseeable future.

    What could be better about this game? I would like some more complexity in ship loadouts. I used to play Navy Field 1 in the early 2000's, and I wish that WoWs had some of its features. The number of upgrades for each ship is rather limited (compared to Tanks, for example) and the different modules don't change the stats all that much (compared to Tanks once again). I remember Navy Field 1 having 5 different gun options for a ship, the armor was customizable (i.e. how much armor do I want to put on deck, belt, or torpedo bulge?), different types of FCS (Fire Control System) gave different benefits (manual was extremely accurate because you had to aim the guns manually with the keyboard, and the auto ones were easier to use but had different distance/accuracy trade-offs), and different engines had different accelerations/max speeds/overheat values. Mounting this equipment had to be balanced against your ship''s displacement: a ship can only carry so much weight, so big heavy guns left less displacement for armor, engine, and even crew (yup, you could even determine how many sailors per position, which would affect the crew's performance negatively or positively). In WoWs, you'll usually find one upgrade for each of the systems: hull, FCS, engine, guns/torpedoes, and each of the upgrades is marginally better than the previous one. For example, the FCS gives a straight upgrade of 10% more range. How about giving us 2 or 3 FCS options that change accuracy, range, and perhaps view distance in different proportions? One would give much better accuracy but decrease range, another would increase both slightly etc. Or engines: right now the upgraded engine increases the top speed of the ship slightly over the stock one, why not give us different engines that affect acceleration, top speed, reverse speed in different ways? I would love to see some variety and complexity in the modules.

    All this being said, the game is still evolving with new features being added on a consistent basis. Just like Tanks evolved over the years with many features, new game modes, and vehicles being added, I am sure WoWs will evolve along the same lines. If you have played Tanks in the past, take this game for a spin. If you never played a War Gaming title ever before but you like ships, then there is nothing stopping you from trying it either. It's free to play!!!
