The game also has a lot of...surprises popping up from around corners. The story is definitely not predictable and filled with cliches, like tons of other games in this period.

The gameplay is also very diverse, with tons of different things to do.

The stealth gameplay is very light, and pretty much missing from alot of sections of the game as the enemies are aware of your presence as soon as you enter the map, but it is present in plenty of other sections. Still, the enemies seem to be pretty bad at spotting you and also will not investigate if they see something strange. However they are smart enough to instantly sound the alarm if they see dead comrades or you kill their comrades in front of them.

The AI is pretty good. It takes cover, it throws grenades, uses more paths to get to you and doesn't pile by taking the same path towards you if there are more available, nothing out of the ordinary about it. And then it's dumb enough to stupidly advance towards you through open areas, as well as shoot their comrades in the back if they get in the line of fire.

Graphics are nice. The game doesn't have state of art breathtaking graphics, but that's ok because it doesn't really matter and the graphics are good enough for our times.

Not out of a misplaced emphasis on 'realism'. Wolfenstein is very self aware. It succeeds in maintaining an ironic disposition to its plot which lends itself to the whimsy that is inherent to Super Soldier gunning down a Nazi Goliath with a giant laser gun. In this way it blows Battlefield and Call of Duty out of the water. That being said it also succeeds, for the most part, in juxtaposing its ridiculousness with a competent emotional subplot.

TLDR: Self-aware game that knows its players just want to gibe Nazis with lazers. Its decent emotional subplot is the cherry on top, rounding off a great game without stealing the show.

Great game. Highly recommend it be accompanied by a six pack of delicious beer.

It's worthy siquel. It's first game in all the serie, which have very good scene. It's much better than Wolfenstein 2009. What's good it's an oldschool shooter with very good gameplay, that make me happy, like RtCW. The bad thing that is sometimes textures isn't show for a second.

I didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised. Apart from a few technical problems with graphics/AI (as mentioned by other reviewers) the game was pretty enjoyable. Solid story-line, good game flow and some Wolfenstein/Duke style humour. Enjoyed the stealth element but going in with dual guns blazing was even more fun!

Finally, a good story on a FPS! This blows every single Call of Duty and Battlefield storyline clean out of the water. The graphics are decent, but the gameplay is phenomenal. So much fun around every corner and it doesn't get old.

I am german and i would have loved to buy this game, from what i've heard and seen it is probably awesome....but i refuse to buy a censored version and even worse a version where i can't even play with english audio because for no reason whatsoever Bethesda forces german players to play with german audio. Playing this game is like going back to the single player classics from the nineties but with the graphics of today. I'm so glad they put all the effort on the single player story. Some people will tell that is not worth paying 60 for a 15 hours-long story, I tell them that I prefer that, to play the same maps over and over again as they do in their MP games.

First, this is a good game, it's fun I like it and I recommend it.

The problem is the AI is very stupid, so if you're into realistic shooting, look elsewere. The story is very good, it's nice to play in a alternate nazi world. But besides the creepy AI, I give it a 6 because the game is absolutely not optimised for PC. When devs make a PC version, we expect at least to be able to

But besides the creepy AI, I give it a 6 because the game is absolutely not optimised for PC. When devs make a PC version, we expect at least to be able to have some features that let us take advantage of our hardware. Everyting looks fine at a distance, but when you get close, the graphics are very bad for a game that is made to run on ps4 and next gen. The texure quality is very bad, the anti aliasing sucks it is painfull to watch. Also, there is no option for triple monitor settings.

I know graphics don't make good games, but they could have made basic efforts to optimize the game for current hardware (not even high end) and there wase absolutely no effort made at all.

They took what really should have been a derp Nazi slaughter and made it truly compelling. Some people have been complaining about the braindead enemy AI but it plays like an homage to all the old school 90s FPS games. I friggin loved the 90s FPS games. The kids may not get it, but for old farts like me Wolfenstein is pure gold.

Then there's the little things. Every time I expect some dreadful quicktime event sequence, there isn't one. If I botch a stealth kill, it doesn't cause every enemy for miles to come running. One minute I can be sneaky and quiet with throwing knives and silencers, and moments later i'm sprinting around liquefying my surroundings with dual-wield automatic shotguns.

The bottom line: it's worth your time.

Some are mentioning bugs and crashes and other headaches trying to get the game to run. Well, I personally experienced none of this. I'm running a powerful but slightly dated rig: Core i7 3770K, 16GB RAM, 2GB GTX680. Smooth as butter, and no crashes.

Those who like more realistic combat war games should look elsewhere.

The game does not need an i7 processor. I'm running a 1st gen i5 CPU overclocked to 3.8ghz with a slightly overclocked GTX 770 and the game runs on High Settings at a constant 60fps. The game was crashing on exit but this was due to a conflict with MSI Afterburner. I fixed this by setting up a profile for Wolfenstein in Afterburner which disabled Afterburner monitoring.

    I would recommend this game.

Most importantly, there's neither charm nor general innovation here.

Also, you do not pick up ammo and armor automatically. So you have to tap 'Use' over every body and every piece of robot debris. And then there's the occasional 'Pick up' hint while running around so you have to backtrack and pixel hunt for that ammo pack/medkit. This gets really tedious after a while.

The brightest part of the game is easily the "lean out of cover" key. That one is good, really, but at the same time that's about it.

The New Order could use a chill pill. Better, more destructive weapons, less dead seriousness and more focus on fun gameplay rather than infinite repetition of the "Nazis are bad and we do not condone, glorify or endorse the beliefs, ideologies, events, actions, persons or behavior of the Nazi regime" stance. Yes, I get it, Nazis are bad, that's why I'm killing them. Can we please make this killing fun?

This is the correct way to combine modern shooters with classic ones. Keeping the health/armor system while limiting the regenerating health aspect, allowing you to hold on to all weapons at once and dual-wield them at that, somewhat linear level design but different ways to approach each scenario making it a nice addition. The game also gives you a sort of bond with each character. Despite only meeting the characters for a short amount of time, it seems like you've known them for years. The graphics are very nice, even on low they are still good. Sometimes framerate can drop at times, and if you don't have the right PC, the game may not even run. I'm sure they will eventually fix these issues because every game has issues on release. I have not completed the campaign yet, but as far in as I am, I'm already attached mentally and physically to this game. I was expecting a mediocre, bland Wolfenstein game but I was proven extremely wrong because this game is incredibly good. For everything, I give this game 10/10! This game is about having fun in a solid combat system, combined with good characters and a sturdy storyline. The gunplay is amazing, I have played this on Uber mode, i've collected all the items and finished the second storyline and still keep coming back for more, simply because it is fun to play (the same feeling I had playing Painkiller years ago). The game isn't amazing graphics wise but it is good enough and there has been issues for some users who I feel terrible for and hope they release a patch for them soon. Machine Games should be proud of themselves, it would be so easy in this day and age to throw on a half-a$$ed multiplayer just for the sake of it but they haven't. They stood true to their original goals of creating a solid singleplayer experience with a good mix between old school/modern shooter features and have pulled it off well. I very rarely pre-order games, maybe 1 a year if that but I did for this game and I wasn't let down. I hope for the ET fans out there the success of this game leads to a multiplayer standalone or spin off and everyone gets what they want. Overall this game is probably a 8-9 out of 10 but i'm going to give it a 10 simply due to the fact I think this is a step in the right direction for the future of the FPS genre and I need to reward a company who goes against the grain with the right motivation at heart. Ever since, I've kept a close eye on the franchise and enjoyed every iteration, including the recent 2009 game that has sadly vanished without a trace for potential buyers. However, this new entry makes up for that with flying colors!

Wolfenstein: The New Order is, without a doubt, one of the most fun shooters of all time and possibly one of the best shooters ever made. Love, passion, and polish have been put into this game, and I have a lot to talk about. But let me try to make this as brief as possible, so you can get the best review possible!

The gameplay, which is exceptionally fun, allows for a great deal of freedom. Stealth, tactics, or assault. Gameplay can flow between any of these three at any moment. Although the level designs consist of corridors or big open atriums, they still allow for a lot of freedom in how you want to approach a situation. Within these levels, you can find any number of hidden goodies to find, such as collectible gold or special codes that unlock additional game modes. You also will find plenty of useful items hidden in fun locations. Although there is some level of linearity, the game still has alternate paths you can take, even if not all the time.

As you gun down waves of Nazis using some of the best gunplay I've ever heard or witnessed, the gun toting hero will unlock "perks" which provide passive bonuses in 4 perk trees. Although it isn't as robust or plentiful as, let's say, the perks in Fallout games, it is still a rather welcome modern addition and doesn't detract from the game.

The game also gives ample reason to replay it, and not just for the collectibles, as their are two alternate "timelines" which bump up the game to 20 hours of playtime! A major two way choice at the beginning of the game will actually CHANGE a few things about the game, including the characters you meet and what major area traversal skill you have. For example, lockpicking or hotwiring.

Now, the final aspects of the game are the story, setting, writing, graphics, sound, and characters. All of it is actually really surprising. The world is full of creative vision, texture, and flavor (the graphics are pretty nice, but rely heavily on effects). White concrete buildings with red Nazi banners proudly flapping in the wind, a group of prisoners being bullied by Nazi scum, and other things help to add to the world. The characters and story is shockingly good too. But before you criticize it, keep in mind that this in context with what kind of crazy game Wolfenstein is. The game has the best story it could possibly have in its current form! The voiceovers are brilliant, the cutscenes are seamless and cinematic. The characters feel very human and world weary, showing the horrors of Nazi rule!

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a qaulity shooter. It has some snags, of course, keeping it from its momentum towards success. Graphics problems, people having trouble running the game, mouse sensitivity issues in the menus/journal, and a few minor bugs. The game, also, can be repetitive or too linear, but that is a matter of subjective perspective.

I can safely say, with all of that said, that this is one of the best shooters at least for the year 2014. It's excessively fun, balls to the wall, and very playable. It has soul that so many shooters are lacking lately, and it will fill in that gap in your soul as well if you are a fan of shooters! Get this game, you will not regret it, shooter fans OR Wolfenstein fans!

If you've played any good old FPS of the past, you've got the point — new Wolfenstein is exactly what you was seeking for. And what's even better is the fact the good ol' FPS design game deeper than ever. Now it's got a HUGE background story, nice dark plot, ton of little hints and details, live characters, list goes further. IMO, only two cons of this game are a bit weaker pacing in the second half of the game and the "Megatexture" technology, which overall looks nice but sometimes it's acting weird and looking very low-res. So, 8,5/10. Looking forward for story expansion pack (or a new game), want so badly to know what's happened with the world after all. Expand

Finished Single Player Campaign in 22 hours. Awesome game, loved it, better than I expected it to be. The game just kept getting better as I played it. I will definitely play this again. Played on PC with GTX 780ti 3GB. Graphics are great and the game runs fast at 60 fps at 1440p. If you love id shooters, then you will love this game.

Summing it up the game play mostly good the story is okay and a sort of cliff hanger ending. Expand

There are only two things I think that take away from the game.
    1. The Huge download memory, making it a pain in the ass to download.
    2. There's a lot of pop in textures due to their engine and the mim vs max on the setting isn't actually too different other than the massive framerate dip.
    3. Last if you're going to have stealth I always believing having the option to move bodies is needed. It doesn't detract massively but still.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was a fantastic game. I normally stick to the RPG, Strategy, and Simulation genres, but I was very excited about this particular game. I never played any other the previous titles, and all I really knew was that I was going to be killing Nazis with some sweet ass guns. And I was completely vindicated in this expectation.

The prologue was intense, and even though I only had the game set at the medium setting, I died quickly several times before even landing/crashing the transport. But instead of frustration, I felt exhilaration. This is a game where dying is to be expected, and a game that is constantly challenging the player to press E and get back to the carnage.

The storyline is fantastic, the enemies diverse in appearance and have a few different load-outs to keep the fighting from getting monotonous. Weapons are great, although I find the weapon wheel a bit tricky at times (accidentally opening at inopportune moments).

I've played Assassins Creed Black Flag, Bioshock Infinite, and Watch Dogs all in the last month, and none of those three titles kept me engaged and interested like Wolfenstein: The New Order has. For the first time in a long time, I am actually chomping at the bit to get some DLC for a game, just because I didn't want it to be over. I have a strong feeling this will the PC game best received by the community this year.

Now, I have played many of the "recent" FPS titles but always ended up leaving the games aside for a reason or another. CoD: Ghost got me bored after only 3 hours of gaming, Crysis 3 was graphically stunning but kinda got repetitive and more like a chore to play for me.

The problem with many new titles these days (not only FPS) is that they try to be "unique" and sometimes focus too much on "new" gameplay features rather than the actual content of the game. Wolfenstein: The New Order is not original in that regard and offers a rather traditional game play, so no surprises there.
Progressing through the waves of enemies can be a bit dull in the way that there is not a huge variety of them but the AI is not the worst I've seen in a FPS game.

All of that aside, Wolfenstein: TNO kept me hooked until the very end. The strongest point of the game is clearly the story, and more precisely the way it is integrated to the game play. Some people might not like the "lack of originality" when it comes to controls but after finishing the game, I thought that the play through was rather "natural" and intuitive.

The graphics are not "next gen" but pretty good. Crysis 3 did a bit better in that regard but people who rate the game 0 because they are not satisfied with the textures are a bit silly. (But hey, it's the internet!)
I didn't find that controls were a problems in any way ("finger gymnastics" as mentioned by some people) and experienced one minor bug only through the whole game (went through the floor while trying to jump where i wasn't supposed to). There are occasionally however as mentioned by a few people collision issues with bigger sized enemies that basically make them harmless.

I had no expectations and knew nothing about this title before actually playing it. I felt that some parts were a bit over the top but overall it had been a while since I enjoyed a FPS game like this. I liked the characters and their development through the game.

Despite being a bit linear, I feel that the game should keep most people interested until the end.

Gameplay / controls: 6/10 (because a bit linear / not innovative)
Graphics: 8/10 (It's not next gen, but it's good)
Story: 8/10 (It's not perfect, but it does the job well)

    I give it a 7 out of 10.

For the case of Wolfenstein, the legacy of being the first one there - thats right, the original Wallenstein from id software is pretty much the first game that let you see through the eyes of the protagonist as you go from room to room, clearing enemies while wielding a gun on the bottom of the screen. Yep, it was the very 1st FPS in history.

The story takes place during the high point of World War 2 in Europe, you crash land into a Nazi occupied castle, accompanied by a small group of soldiers scattered from various regiments, you have a clear task of cutting the head of the snake and end this war. The game captures the agony of defeat at your most vulnerable time - just when you thought you had it won. It carries a very powerful and emotional punch to the gut itself, but what transpires during those darkest hours will haunt you throughout the rest of the game. It further connects you to the game on a very personal level. The characters that you meet to help you fight against the Nazis aren't just there to move the story forward, they aren't your typical forgettable characters you find in most shooters, oh no, they feel like real people going through real hell thanks to the New World Order of the Nazis. Everyone here lost something dear and precious in the 'Old World' to the Nazis and hence have very personal vendetta against them. While on the other side of the fence the cruel and horror nature of the Nazi is brought to life through very well written, well designed and I can confidently say, well hated antagonists in the game. You just don't want to save the people around you, but you also really want to hurt the Nazis and give them no mercy of a quick death.

First impressions are always going to be the visuals, and this game looks good, very good. Not just id tech 5 looks amazing here, from ultra crisp textures, great attention to detail in every corner to bring the world to life. What really caught my attention was the cinematography and the art style of the game: The game uses colors and their contrast to great effect, combined with the sheer attention to detail I mentioned before, it creates a visually orgasmic experience! The environments are very distinct and crafted with a lot of care and thought just like the rest of the game, no two places ever feels the same. Another thing to note, not only the game takes you to a wide variety of places across the world, but across the time as well. The art style, the condition of the world and it's inhabitants reflect this brilliantly.

The level design also gives the player a lot of options in dealing with situations and change tactics on the fly, which the game actually forces you to do so when playing in harder difficulty modes, which I suggest. The weapons are mostly standard you would expect from a sci-fi shooter with some cooling alternate firing modes and there is something incredibly satisfying when you can dual wield weapons like assault rifles, shotgun and even...rocket launchers..thats right..dual wield rocket launchers.

What really stood out for me is also the main reason I will continue to come back to this game long after I finished it is how precise and satisfying the shooting mechanics felt. It is just pure joy to point your gun and just shoot. Further, the weapons feel solid, distinct and carry satisfying feedback all of which combine to make one of the best shooting experience possible . It is the most basic mechanic for a shooter, but you would be surprised that most fail to deliver here. Modern shooters have made great strides in graphics and other enhancements through this medium, but it also came at a price of deteriorating the key functionalities which made this genre timeless. A lot of the essence of the genre is getting lost with modern 'refinements' being made into the genre. It is very pleasant to discover that Wolfenstein have gone back to basics with their approach to shooting. I found the firefights challenging without being frustrating most the time on the 2nd highest difficulty mode I played. The AI was definitely smart to box me in, flank and even find higher ground to get a upper hand during combat situations.Oh yeah one more thing, the game doesn't even have regenerating health, Win!

Wolfenstein is very likely not just my game of the year, but it is one of the most important games to come around in my opinion with a clear message: sometimes you have to embrace the past to guide you a better future.

The overall production is great, and you can tell the devs didn't just pull this out their ass, There is a lot of craft in this game that made is very polished and a work of art in some ways. The weapons and overall mechanics are solid and gameplay is clean. Everything about it shows that someone or a group really cared about making this game, the detail is impressive. It's old-style FPS with a nice boost.

All of you who complain about textures... ok. The game looks fine. They have to compromise to get high frame rates with the shaders, particle effects etc. If they did have high textures you losers would be complaining about your low framerates on your l33t pcs. Then u have the lamers who complain about bugs when their computers just suck.

It's very difficult to satisfy the FPS genre these days, especially single player. Many players are either nostalgic about older FPS's or have some mental disorder (ADD) from playing video games too much, and are constantly bored. Reading reviews on this site some people need to seriously step away from a computer. Gamers are a very fickle marketing group that hold very high expectations and are very difficult to please.

It literally made me feel like crying at the end because of how well the game goes with making you CARE about the characters. And not just love the characters but ACTUALLY hate the abd guys, which is something pretty much no other game made me feel. Sure it is naive at times (very naive, making nazis look rather incompetent) so some suspension of disbelief is in order.
The graphics are good but not great, progression/shooting/collectibles/levels are all top notch, with multiple routes to take. There is support for both stealth and rambo gameplay although I found myself doing something in between. Enemy AI is very good, agressive and always trying to flank you in a smart (well, usually) way.
The world is crafted in an epic way immersing you into the story since mission 1.
There is enough guns and enemies to keep you interested till the end of ~15 h campaign. You constantly get something new to do what Blazkowicz does the best, that is kill all the nazis !
There is one issue though and that would be the pacing. Sometimes I found myself grinding my teeth on a stupidly long fetch quest or wondered why the hell this great level ended so quickly.
Ever wondered what would happen if nazis won the war with laser guns and robots ?
Wolfenstein New Order answers this perfectly. 9/10

Graphics are really good technically, although there's nothing here that justifies a 40 gig download. Seriously, what exactly is that hard drive space going towards, because it doesn't look any better than 8 gig games. Aesthetically, it looks okay, but nothing that impressed, and I got lost quite a bit because many rooms look alike. Enemies have ragdoll physics and gib and bleed, which is satisfying. A few interactive background objects react to gunfire here and there, but nothing on the order of Stranglehold or the Red Faction games. Sound is good. Menus are functional. The plot is...there...clearly alot of effort went into it, but it didn't grab me (Nazis were evil?! SHOCK!).

    CONTROLS - 6
Standard FPS controls, although the movement feel isn't quite as good as Halo's. I like the fact that hard vs fast tap distinguishes between knife-melee and knife-throw. But you can only really carry 6 guns at a time (with dual-wielded versions of each) and you can't mix-and-match which gun you have in each hand the way you could in Halo 2. The guns are fine for machine guns, but there really aren't any unique weapons that impress (like almost anything from Painkiller or Bulletstorm). There's a new mechanic whereby some (i.e., very few) steel catwalk guards can be cut through with a laser and then fired through, but it's barely used, and even then it's a mechanic put to shame by, say, Battlefield: Bad Company 1 or 2 or any of the Red Faction games.

    DESIGN - 2
As a child, I remember having 30 minutes between when I got home and I could play videoames and my father got home and I had to start doing homework. So my biggest pet peeve in a videogame was always anything that I felt wasted my time, like grinding for levels or not knowing where to go or dying and losing all my progress. Let me assure you, reader, that this pet peeve has not at all changed now that I am older and have even less time for videogames.
In other, better games, waypoints (Call of Duty) or navigation arrows (Bioshock) have solved the problem of getting lost; regenerating health (Halo) solved the problem of having to waste time hunting for medkits; quicksaving/quickloading (Max Payne) solved the problem of losing progress on death. This game has none of those advances. Other than allowing you to carry more than 4 (or 2) guns at a time, W:TNB eschews every single advance FPS game design has made for the past three decades. You can criticize CoD games for being boring shooting galleries if you'd like, but Wolfenstein's distinction of adding in unnecessary design aggravations doesn't improve anything.
There's also an upgrade system, which is almost always a bad idea in action games, but at least it's automatic so it stays in the background.
But the absolute worst part are those fairly frequent sections of gameplay where the shooting just stops and you have to complete a key hunt in order to trigger the next scene, because some developer thought that would help "world-build" better than a cutscene. I don't play videogames to do busywork, I play to relax; I shouldn't have to "earn" the good parts of a game by playing through something that is manifestly un-fun to everyone. About half the 12-hour runtime (so I've read, I got bored and stopped halfway in) is spent NOT shooting people (either keyhunting in rooms without enemies or super-linear stealth gameplay). And it's not like that problem is solved in the multiplayer mode, because there isn't one. (No Co-op, either). There's little to recommend this game over those that let you just run-and-gun the entire length.

What a treat for a FPS fan. This is the most fun in singleplayer I've had since a really long time.
The only downside is the use of id tech5 which doesn't always deliver.
The game looks and plays great, if you like FPS games do yourself a favor and don't miss this one!

This is really a solid FPS game! Well designed levels, running speed allows for quick, heart pumping action, sounds contribute to the atmosphere and the storyline is surprisingly interesting. The performance of the game engine is exemplar, at 60 fps at all times, using a Titan X for 2560x1440 resolution.

An absolutely amazing game overall. The gameplay feels smooth, the animations are nice, the aesthetic fits the grim tone of the story, and the story is just legendary. It dethrones popular story-based titles like Bioshock and Portal without trying. While it may lack the replay value of games such as Dishonored, it's an amazing title that is on sale on steam at time of writing.
    Buy this game.

I did not know that a new Wolfenstein was in the works until about a week before its release. I was not hyped in any way and Wolfenstein was a long forgotten franchise for me, the last release from this franchise I played was RtCW back in 2001. Which was pretty interesting back in the days.

I did not have any urge to play it until I heard the song - German version of House of the Rising Sun. I really liked it and wanted to check out more. I really like the idea of alternate history and what would happen after that.

I was expecting something more open-world and for a moment it seemed that that was something that they were going for (at least partially with the mini-quests) but perhaps they did not have the time to develop it. Storywise - the game takes place in alternative timeline where Nazis won the war thanks to some impossible technology. The only person who can stop this is William J Blazkowicz - main protagonist in all games of the series. I think thats really refreshing after all those modern and current warfares of the 2010's

I was a bit disappointed as character development was a bit lacking although it was fun to listen to various languages being spoken instead of English with funny accents (mainly German and Polish). The narration is a powerful mix of Inglorious Basterds with Iron Sky and a pinch of Ocean's Eleven.

As for the gameplay - it offers a joyride of a modern shooter with scripted events and some oldschool mechanics (you can regain full health only with medpacks) - ridiculous double weapon setups and hordes of enemy soldiers and robots. It is not your typical shooter, although feels more up-to-date than most of oldschool ride like recent renditions of Shadow Warrior or Rise of the Triad.

Visually - it is certainly not a next-gen experience. Although I like the smooth look of faces and cinematic cutscenes the visuals seem somewhat lacking - idTech 5 is still a work in progress ridden with problems - low res textures and some heavy texture popping almost all the time (I guess 4 GB of RAM is to small for this engine) amd I do not think that we will see it in many games. What is sure - it certainly has a different feel than all those unreal engine games.

What is disturbing - the download is 40 GB - just like Titanfall - and - again like in Titanfall - theres vritually nothing in this game to justify it. I am no developer but I did not see any high quality textures nor did I hear that much variety of sound to justify it.

Other than that - the games was a fun ride for 10 hours. I doubt I will replay it though - there is alternative timeline which gives you small changes in layout, there are some collectibles and game modes to unlock, however nothing worthy of repeating it, at least not immediately after.
Given the pluses and minuses of the game I had hell of a fun, more than I ever had from single player modes for quite some time. Bioshock was interesting but not that fun. Dishonored was pretty close but again - it was a different kind of game - lacking the pure mindless fun. For me, given its minuses, its a solid 8.

"Solid" is the best word to describe this game. It's neither groundbreaking nor a 10/10 title, and has a few off-putting segments (the forced stealth sections come to mind), but overall it manages to be a fun title with a cool aesthetic and a great soundtrack.

Now if only Bethesda could get Splash Damage on-board for an Enemy Territory remake...

Great classic (in its best) FPS! Great level design often reminded me Quake 1/2, Half-Life 1/2. Very fluent game-play and story-line, the quality of the game is constant during all game. I had no technical issues. Enemy AI is pretty good and can take you from behind if they can. I'm really enjoying the game and will run through it the second time, using more aggressive game style.

The only thing i did not like was the end.......that really sucked and reminded me of mass effect 3 ending. You go through all that just to die and lose the girl.......come on Bethesda........people want happy endings after killing bad dudes !!!!!! The weapons available are quite far ranging and you will need to use several of them to get through the game...especially the weapon that doubles as a laser cutter.......you will use that often. Well done, they crammed many different challenges into one game, from driving a submarine, to walking on the moon and more......you will NOT be disappointed in this game (apart from the ending !) A really good shooter with immersing storyline, which takes quite a lot of time to complete (compared to MW* and BF* that's a big advantage). Shooting Nazis has never been so enjoyable before, with a variety of weapons available, and a semi-rpg trait system to kill the Nazis even faster and more spectacularly.

The worst comes in the final boss fight, a two-stage affair which requires a great deal of crate-raiding before proceeding to the next round. Rather than saving when you enter that final round, your save is after the end of stage one, and thus every re-attempt begins with the crates. within the first 15 to 20 minutes of the game, the feel of wolfenstein hit me like a ton of bricks, in that old castle with some overdone, unrealistic Nazi inventions roaming around, alongside the 37 helmets that I guess he stores on his knees, and the food that he instantly inhales to fix his bullet wounds. the game feels like it should, like wolfenstein.

but from ID software, i'd expect a little more.

now here's the thing EVERYBODY NEEDS TO GET ACROSS THEIR MIND. ID software had nothing to do with this wolfenstein or the last, with the exception of licensing their engine to another company so they could do every last bit of designing. you haven't seen anything from ID software since doom 3 and quake 4. so for those of you saying ID is dead because you didn't like the last two wolfensteins, stop being ignorant, buy doom 4, and come back with your opinion.

Actually, I liked this game a lot more than I thought I would. Ok, let's be honest: the story is RIDICULOUS, seriously, but it is told in such a manner that captivates you, and it comes alive with the nice atmosphere the game has.

Of course, the graphics are really dated, and there is some visual problems that are jarring, but the art direction of the game pulled of a superb job.

Of course, the graphics are really dated, and there is some visual problems that are jarring, but the art direction of the game pulled of a superb job.

Same with the story. I mean, even if the Americans failed to free France, the Soviets were pushing hard at the east front, but ok... Nazis won the war. Then we have all sorts of crazy inventions. Robo-dogs. Giant mechs patrolling cities. Nazis in the **** moon. It is ridiculous, but it feels... real, I don't know.

It's only a shame that the game works with a clear dichotomy between good and evil. It's so... manichaeistic. BAD AND DUMB NAZIS. GOOD AND SMART ALLIES. And I find it funny, actually, because the game depicts the Nazis as totally dumb people, but, let's be honest, in this universe they not only won the war, but they have a **** colony in the moon with drones patrolling it.

Anyway, the story is filled with humor, but it's not in your face at all the times. It's more of a nice touch. And I ended up caring for the characters at the end, because they felt real, and they had great development along the game.

The gameplay is a mixed bag of old school and more recent gameplay. But it is really good, challenging and addictive. And the level design is really nice too. Not anywhere near Half Life levels design, but it is good nonetheless.

This might as well be my personal game of the year. It has many flaws, like dated graphics or some gameplay mechanics that just don't connect... But it was so damn funny. And after 12 hours, it was over, and I was wanting for more. I recommend it for anyone tired of recent titles of first person shooters who miss the old days of glory of the genre.

No, it's not perfect. Yes, it's decent. Don't expect a real reboot or remake: it has some 'modern' input to please the casual gamer (waypointmarkers, 'press X to Y' pop-ups, replenished health, glowing items). On top: the checkpoints can be annoying at higher difficultysettings. Levels are not totally lineair, so that's good. Really: it's an 'ok' game.

However, I was not prepared for New Order to be one of the very best shooters I ever played.

The storyline, for video game standards, is nothing short of spectacular - With great pacing, deep, well written characters, good construction, mature themes, astonishing at times attention to detail, excellent voice-acting; New Order can really engage the player emotionaly, something that very few games achieve, and is probably one of the very first shooters that based its storyline primarly on character developement rather than an overly complex plot. It's like watching a good movie or reading a well-written sci-fi novel.

Altough be warned the game sometimes is one the border of good taste. It's sort of a deconstruction of camp - It takes all the cliche wacky nazis tropes and plays them absolutely seriously. What results can be interpreted as a slap in the face of all the chessy nazisploitation media like Iron Sky, Inglorious Basterds or even the previous Wolfenstein games (no hate here - I love all of the mentioned, but trivialising nazism is a fault prevelant in all of them). With its dark, opressive atmosphere, Wolfenstein is one of the heaviest and most depressing games I played - Be prepared for that, in case you are counting for silly Hitler on a jetpack.

Other than the story, Wolfenstein offers very solid gameplay organicaly connected with stealth elements, as sneaking, slow, tactical shooting and dual-wielding rampages all have their place and time in the gameplay. The guns feel great, sound great, the player movement is excellent (brilliant leaning mechanic), enemy AI is agressive and actively tries to kill - It makes for one hell of core gameplay. The levels are large (game took me almost 15 hours to complete), open for exploration and varied, the visuals, while technicaly only decent, are extremely well done aestheticaly and very detailed. Sound design is impressive, and the music is one of the best I've heard in shooters. In a world filled with orchestras and huge electronics, you need huge balls to base your game's mood on calm and beutiful melodies played on a accoustic guitar.

The game's not without it's flaws, however. I found one or two levels to be slightly below the game's average in terms of gameplay and suspense. Some transitions between cutscenes and gameplay are less fluent than they could be, and once or twice the change of story location occurs a bit too rapidly. There are some minor technical issues, and the pop-in of objects at the edge of the screen is really something that shouldn't be in the game. Dual-wielding can be problematic as the game sometimes can't divide ammo between weapons. Lastly, I wish there would have been more guns in the game. The ones that are in all have their place and role and you are encouraged to switch between them depending on situation rather than stick to your favourite one, but given the setting one would hope to find one or two guns crazy not only in their design, but in function as well.

In conclusion, technicaly, the game deserves a strong 8. However, due to the amazing storyline, I raise the score by two bars. This is the direction I would love shooters to take, and I want to see more games as engaging and ambitious as this one. Thus, a 10/10.

I would ASSUME they are planning a sequel, and I hope they make one, but the game certainly doesn't really come to a very conclusive end. The final boss is pretty sick though, provided a decent challenge etc.

I'm going to assume mecha Hitler will be for the next game.

Multiplayer would have been awesome too.

I hope they take this game, add multiplayer, add coop, and just make a badass sequel out of it.
This is the kind of game where the sequel, if they put some decent work into it, will just blow everyone away.

It's a fun game, lays some good groundwork for a series, but the **** story takes up too much of the game. I really did not give a **** about any of the characters, there's a secret society bit that just trails off at the end that could have had potential, but they just kill it pretty quickly.

A better ending was needed tbh, considering I'm pretty sure a sequel definitely won't be a sure fire thing.

Simply a good solid game. Engaging story, good mechanics. Not the pretties game, but non the less a story that should be played by wolfenstein and FPS fans alike.

I'm giving it a 9, as it its a lot better than I expected, and once you work out the fixes to some of the issues its a hugely enjoyable and satisfying game that both FPS genre fans and ID/Wolfenstein fans will love.

Firstly the Negative - Graphics - Epic screen tearing and weird things happening to my screen. even on low graphics + low resolution it was still happening... After playing around with the settings, I found putting into window mode fixed that. So I happily play MAX settings setting with Windowed (full screen) and it runs perfectly now. There's also general minor things like no auto pickup, the occasional stupid enemy, basically a lack of extra polish over the game.

The Positive - Straight up single player shooter.... I think Wolfenstein strikes a chord with the hearts of more old school shooter fans, its not a sugar coated glorified call of duty title, that depends on its multiplayer community. It's a epic, deep, rich, lengthy, story-driven, non linear, thrill ride in a clever alternative history full of easter eggs and great characters. This is the best single player shooter I've played since Bioshock Infinite or Deus EX: HR and falls in line with the likes of Metro Last light for dark and gritty... and probably will be the best shooter till Doom... with the way the FPS market is saturated by MP focused shooters. Its nice to be able to get lost in a good story.

Take Wolfenstein for what it is, its own outstanding homage to the Daddy of shooters...to single player shooters of the blast-them-up style... and not a uber realistic camp in cover fest

It needs some refinement, but its a great game.

This game is excellent on almost every aspect, the gameplay is balanced, engaged (you can easily spend several hours playing this game without getting bored, an aspect that has become increasingly important to me as I grow older); the story line is fantastic. Even the less developed characters have weight and gravitas, and the game often gets away with making you care for an undeveloped character, this is because the little they say makes them sound human, vulnerable, real; not just NPCs in a formulaic game.

Wolfenstein takes the classic FPS formula and sometimes it just pays a fitting homage to it, making you kick serious ass, on other times it just mocks it (like on the opening secuence); the soundtrack is amazing and the amount of detail put into it is commendable.

The graphics are fantastic, truly next gen. The acting is superb, and how the game takes a multilingual setting and respects the underlying cultures (polish, english, british, german, jewish) by having the actors speak on the native language serves to immserse you further into the experience.

Also the game does not shy away of the horrors of war, even on this distopian future you will see the horrors of the Nazi war machine, labor camps included and never in fault of mocking historical experiences but rather transforming them with other possible futures.

The story is complex but presented in a very simplistic way, extremely well fleshed out, it never weights down on the experience, only adds to the enjoyment.

Its sad that the game does not offer a new game plus (not that you really need it), since the way the story is presented it almost warranties a second playthrough.

A great first-person shooter with which brings back the classic style of gameplay - running around, spraying the hell out of Nazi's and collecting ammo, health and armour along the way. The thing I like so much about Wolfenstein is that they don't overcomplicate things. I see so many FPS's these days with complex upgrade/levelling systems which are just not necessary. The thing I like so much about Wolfenstein is that they don't overcomplicate things. I see so many FPS's these days with complex upgrade/levelling systems which are just not necessary. Wolfenstein is simplistic, yet a lot of fun.

The story was captivating, but not something that had me clinging to my keyboard and mouse desperate to see what happens next. The use of cut scenes and attention to detail when it came to Blazkowicz's personal life did create an emotional side to the game, and added some level of realism. Overall I am satisfied with the story, but I have seen better.

My biggest gripe with the game was the AI enemies and the difficulty. AI seemed to act really stupidly in the game, and often I found exploits which made levels extremely easy. For example, at one point I was sat in a small pipe and the enemies were just bundling up in front of the pipe entrance, unable to crouch down and enter the pipe, whilst I just shot their legs and cleared an entire room without being shot at once. I was also playing on the second to hardest difficulty, and I died around 5 times throughout the entire game, which is too few in my opinion. For a game which defines the FPS genre, I felt the AI were fairly poor. Furthermore, optimisation for the game wasn't great. With a GTX 780 I should be getting at least 100fps with a game like this, considering the visuals and lighting weren't exactly Metro: Last Light standard. The game, despite vsync being turned off, was locked at 60fps, meanwhile I use a 110Hz monitor (overclocked) and could not go above 60fps. The depth of field was also extremely annoying, although you can turn it off manually in the game's notepad settings.

Without a doubt, TNO is one of the best FPS games of the past few years. Gameplay is smooth, easy to learn, and makes you feel like a god. There's been quite a few not-so-spectacular reboots of classic FPS action in recent years, but this game has gotten much closer than the rest. Character movement is fast, dual wield just about anything, no sprint meters or unnecessary ducking and peeking, just fast-paced bloody classic action. There's a few odd time-skips and jar-you-from-the-action cutscenes that bothered me. Also please turn the **** music up or at least give us the option to tone down the sfx vs music. There are some good kicking background audio bits that would have made the game much more adrenaline pumping had they been at a higher volume. These are my only complaints. Well worth the full price.

AWESOME what a great game, visually stunning, audio is atmospheric and with a bonkers and OTT alternate history this game is a AAA gem.

Running on an intel i5 (boosted) to 3.2mhz, 8 gig 1600mhz ram, 2gig HD7890, Win 7 64bit OS installed on a Corsair SSD the game runs smoothly on High settings with shadows reduced from 4098 to 2046. I appreciate there are many software and hardware

I appreciate there are many software and hardware combo's and that some may issues with new titles but outside of Battlefield 4 (Publisher FAIL) this setup has run all the latest titles on full settings without issue.

10/10 to the developers, artists, writers and coders that have created this stunning work. Thank you your passion and hard work is apparent in every frame.

Great remake of Wolfenstein. Great mechanics, story, guns, boss fights. You will be happy you got this! Only reason I didn't give it a 10 is there are a few shadow bugs here and there and AI but I didn't notice it that often

A great reimagining of the series, delivering a fun experience to shooter fans, while bringing a good story and some solid mechanics that feel fresh but still know the roots of the franchise.

The only thing in the new Wolfenstein that turned out really well is music. Shooting is decent and some weapons give proper sense of power, but developers failed to build an interesting game on these foundations. It has some good moments but none of them lasts long enough to be satisfying. Plus the writing is terrible and the way the game constantly forces all that ‘war is evil!’ preaching and Blazkowicz’s moral dilemmas down your throat is ridiculous. I actually couldn’t decide whether the game is being serious or not. [07/2014, p.56]
