Nov 5, 2023Wizard with a Gun is colorful roguelite that mixes in an interesting way different gameplay styles. The result is satisfying, but not as much as it could have been, because the loop feels like it already shown what it had to give way too early.

Nov 1, 2023Wizard with a Gun has a lot of potential. It absolutely could reach the highs I expect from a quality Devolver Digital-published game, but right now it feels like it needs more time in the oven. I love the visuals, movement, and music, but it feels a bit too grindy and lacking in other ways. It perfectly suits the Steam Deck though, and I recommend getting it to play on Deck over even PS5 if you have the option right now.

Oct 31, 2023With Devolver Digital's seal of quality, Wizard With a Gun cleverly combines the gunplay of Twin-Stick Shooters with the mechanics of survival games. The result is a fun isometric adventure with a double-edged sword in its simplicity - although addictive, it ends up being too easy, which shortens its duration and limits the challenge. Even so, it has enough creative possibilities for a few brave forays to save the world, five minutes at a time.

Oct 17, 2023Wizard With a Gun is a strong start for Galvanic Games, and the effort that has gone into the crafting system and elemental mechanics is well-appreciated. You can lose a lot of hours simply shaping ammo and gathering resources. However, the controls are loose, the lore could be better integrated, and the endgame is bare. Despite these issues, though, Wizard With a Gun is a competent shooter that has a lot of potential and is well worth watching as it develops over time.

Nov 16, 2023Wizard with a Gun is a half-successful hybrid: the survival mechanics don't go well with the roguelite nature of the game.
-
Nov 2, 2023As with a lot of these things, they get better as you settle into it, gathering more powerful weapons and generally getting better at the game, but I can still name so many other similar games that I’d rather play instead of this.
-
Oct 18, 2023This is a well made and fun game, with great art and a quality multiplayer offering, but it's held back by overwhelming and demanding crafting, RPG, and progression that takes the sting and thrill out of the broader experience.
-
Oct 17, 2023Wizard with a Gun is an entertaining co-op action game, but balance issues and an unsatisfying ending leave it feeling unfinished and in need of updates.
-
Oct 16, 2023Wizard with a Gun promises a sandbox survival experience, but it relies slightly too heavily on its crafting mechanics as you get set up which takes away from the combat side of the game. It's got a few flaws for sure, but it's still fun as long as you're prepared for a bit of repetition.

Oct 16, 2023That’s a real shame because I love so much of the game Galvanic Games have created, but I don’t particularly enjoy the feel of actually playing it. There are enough cool moments and interesting paths that I still had a fairly good time overall, but the actual feel of the game is a crucial element that simply never clicked. However, players who this core gameplay resonates with will absolutely love Wizard With a Gun.

Oct 27, 2023Wizard With A Gun is certain to resonate more with players who relish the housekeeping gameplay, the opportunity to organize twenty different storage chests all over again. The tower base should serve as a safe haven from the encroaching danger outside, but that world outside is hardly ever a challenge in the first place, and we only died one time during the entire playthrough. The only real hazards here lie in what to do with a backpack full of mushrooms when the mushroom box is full. Wizard With A Gun could use some more inspired gunplay – and wizardry, for that matter - but it’s a serviceable distraction for anyone who likes to just hoover up ingredients and fill out a research tree.
